  1. i think you are right dale. last i heard both new ld diesel engines are "ford built" and ford will basically cut all ties with international.
  2. what would be considered good fuel economy on a 6.0? i have several customers getting upwards of 800+km on a tank of fuel under sensible driving conditions. my brother inlaw did pretty much the same thing, bought an early '04 for cheap from auction with just enough warranty left. i did the headgaskets, installed studs(no o-rings on this one though). from there i installed a banks intercooler, piping and intake elbow, an airaid intake, 4" exhaust, and an sct with a customized tune. his truck gets an easy 800km to a tank and has about 80,000km on it since all this has been done with no signs of anything yet. he also runs the pm-22 additive with every tank of fuel. the custom tune was very mild, i would be surprised if it even added 50hp, more so just a "control" tune as i like to call it. as mentioned of course this does come with some increased emissions, but i did leave the egr system intact on his truck as well as the cat. i do alot of this stuff, i do however make all of my customers aware of warranty implications and even make them sign a waiver(which would probably mean squat if it ever came down to it), and rarely have any problems. there are the odd extremests that break stuff on a regular basis, but you gotta pay if you wanna play right.
  3. we were told at the last protech meeting that it is scheduled for 2010 second production run. 300hp and 525 lb/ft were the guestimate numbers, and initial testing showed 20+usmpg.
  4. check the c.a.c hose at the turbo(the blue elbow). they tend to get small rips and let oil drip out through the hose. i change at least one a week, very common. just take the elbow of and bend it arround to find the tears, sometimes you can only see them from the inside.
  5. the "ford won't pay for a rusty oil pan" theory is crap. it may take a phone call or two but they will pay. as far as the time to do the job goes, if it is an auto trans with no extra goodies hanging off the engine, pull the motor, reseal the pan then go for lunch. come back from lunch and install the motor, maybe take a quick coffee break, finish up and go home early. i believe i got paid arround the 9 hour mark(as previously mentioned) for the last one i did, which for a warranty time is fine with me. retail would be much better, but if it was my 4 or 5 year old truck with 100,000km and still under warranty i would want ford to pay.
