Diesel owners supplement...
cbriggs replied to Jim Warman's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
In BC a vehicle fails provincial inspection if any inicator light in the dash remains lit, flashes or doesn't prove out/ bulb check. Unfortunatly the only time a vehicle (private reg) requires inspection is when its coming in from another province or the cops pull it off the road. -
What year is the frieghtliner though. I have heard the new commercial transports with egr and dpf arent very good on fuel as well.

Negative Fuel Pressure

Thats the warning buzzer. They considered a light on the dash, but that must have been easier. -

I thought part of the reason (maybe a small part) for tpms was also for emissions, trying to keep from driving on underinflated tires? -
Quote: you won't see much unloaded Thats the problem. As grocery getters they probly wont do so well. We may find they get as good of mileage loaded as they do empty. ( if they are capable of passsive regen when loaded and worked HARD)

2.3l ford power products, 1997 vintage, on propane. With the sides removed and the hopper lifted its alot like a cab off.

Whats the strangest thing you guys have worked on recently ? I put a head on a Zamboni yesterday. Got some pretty weird looks from people in the shop, and worse when i drove it around the shop after it was done.

No sign of chip. Did have a bd cold air scoop on the rh fender that was plumed to air filter, but stock air filter and box. This thing ate alot of its oil before it came in, the turbos and intake were all full of oil, lots of gunk and carbon buildup on all engine parts. ( that may be why it looks eroded) i will get some more pics uploaded, but i can be certain there was no erosion on the piston. I will see if i have a pic after i wiped it down.

Oh yeah, claim got kicked back today. Apparently our repair was 790% above the national average? wtf. Does everybody else do them for free? The only thing i can think of is the causal part being 9e527? Going to change it to complete engine pn (6007?) tommorow and see what happens.

A brand new 5.4l 3v short block is like $600 with the core removed. Ridiculous. Now the heads ont the other hand....

Bottom of piston looked perfect, from underneath would never know anythings wrong, i believe piston cooling jet hits opposite the hole. Thats not erosion at 8 oclock, just some shit on the piston, i didnt get too carried away cleaning, by this point i knew i was getting a complete, just satisfying my curiousity. Other than the crack and the burn hole piton looked fine.

Has anyone priced a 6.4l complete recently? I beleive retail is nearly $24,000, with our cost coming in around $14,500 ( core value removed). On the engine i recently replaced there was an envelope, with an invoice from navistar to ford motor company of canada. It was for 11 6.4l engines, the price per unit is $7378.00 . Wow, 100% markup to dealers, seems a little excesive?

Has anyone had the pleasure of doing one of these under 09m05 program yet. What a b/s operation. It did actually work, but running battery acid thru a heater core at 150` should clean it out. I wonder what this shit does to the lifespan of a heater core and cooling system. I challenge the engineer that came up with this procedure to show how it can be done in 3.3 hrs ( with water pump feed pipe). It took me 5.6 hrs to complete. Yeah, 15 minutes or so was to assemble the pump as this was the first one. But even after the pump is hooked up, forget the pre flush and drain, it takes 15 minutes to get the fluid up to temp, 2 hours of flushing, 15 minutes to cool back down. Thats 2 1/2 hrs right there. Then there's the 3 fresh water flushes, re and re t-stat twice, re and re t-stat housing to replace water pump pipe, Clean up equiptment, clean up bay, dispose of antifreeze, flush chem and contaminated water. Fuck me. Also, they only will pay 1/3 the cost of what the disstilled water cost us, so we pay for the rest i guess, and we also cover the cost of disposing of nearly 100 litres of waste antifreeze and shit. Is ford ever getting out of this one cheap. I pride myself in my ability to work efficiently, and can usually make book time on anything on my first try, But i dont think this job could possibly be done in less than 4 1/2 hrs, even with a few under my belt. (Not that that will be a problem, i think i will refuse to do anymore untill the time is more reasoneable.)

Could make an addapter to air up the cylinder thru a glow plug hole. I have also heard of using small, soft nylon rope. Push some rope down glo plug (or spark plug on gasser) hole, then bar engine around softly until rope pile holds up on valves.( I have never tried this but it seems logical)

Why thank you sir.

There's a couple pictures of the piston in photo post, cant figure out how to put them on here. Take a look and tell me your opinions on the failure?

I have installed a few vortec s/c kits on various cars that use an air to water cooler with a stand-alone cooling system. Worked really well.

No, just heard talk of the jack ass on here.

Hey guys, I have the option to buy a 2001 windstar, trans only has reverse. It's a trade in unit that they will sell me for a dollar, just curious if any one has seen a common failure to lose all forward gears? ( i dont do alot of trans work) Im hoping it could be as simple as a piston lip seal or 1 set of clutches? Im hoping to fix trans and sell it for a few grand, but if trans is junk i wont even bother.

Talk about going backwards!

It just blows my mind that the last thing they think is that they actually have a low tire. Its just some pesky light that comes on and anoys them. I guess most would prefer to run a tire flat and replace it. oh yeah, and, I have officially renamed common sense, it is now un-common sense. Hard to find these days. -
^^^^^ Now thats a movie i'd watch.
