  1. holy crap!! May as well do head gaskets too, call it a complete reseal.
  2. Ever looked at mitchell time for a 6.0l alternator re& re? I think its 2.4 ish. Apparently you need to remove fan and shroud to get belt off?
  3. Quote: That job would be alot like finger fucking a Porcupine Now thats funny right there. And yes, cut off the tire rack. Last one i did i welded it back onto a piece of 3x3 angle iron, then bolted the whole deal back onto the headache rack, so next time it will be eaier.
  4. Is there a mount or something that bolts on nearby? Thats strange. Maybe engine got dropped at factory?
  5. And lets not forget that the 6.0l is responsible for getting a vast number of us diesel techs (in western canada anyways) certified, through the "accelerated" diesel cert programs. Fords way of (reactively) reducing customer wait times i guess.
  6. Mines going great, ive been on holidays all week.
  7. What on earth were you searching to find that..... Or is that what you were searching????????
  8. Ive had a couple of pumps calf on 7.3s in the past couple years, as i recall they were all towed in, no run.
  9. I was monkeying aroung under the hood of an 07 duramax today, and noticed the turbo is a garrett unit, and looks very, very similar to a 6.ol turbo, same-ish chra, same control solenoid and piston setup, only theirs has a position sensor in the hole (thats there for a positions sensor.)Duhhh. Why couldn't our engineers figure this out? rather than plug the hole.I took it for a drive too, they must have the vgt programming figured out a bit better, cuz man was that think snappy. Not much pull up top like either of our engines though.
  10. Souns like fuel starvation of some kind, may have had a plugged filter in the past and has since been swapped out.
  11. I seem to have a hard time convincing people they should buy the bolts, especially when they see the price.
  12. Ive often thought of putting in an stc fitting kit while heads are off, but most of the ones i do are warranty, or the retail ones are old style pump. Heads are good, smooth and no measureable warp in direction ford wants straight edge, and about .002" end to end. I like on the Hypermax page for the gaskets it says: Do it youself installation instructions included. Kinda pricy too. That with arp studs is a hefty bill.
  13. Im suprised someone does't start re-building them. There's gotta be plenty of cores around.
  14. Well, as of today the only truck i have ever done headgaskets on twice has ARP studs installed. I did the head gaskets and installed studs at about 60000km, and again today at 120000km. The truck they are in has a banks kit, and gets beat on hard, but ive put lots of stock bolts in trucks with chips and never had a redo till today. This thing consistantly pulls 32 to 35 psi boost, and are the worst burnt gaskets ive ever seen.
  15. Obviously they haven't hooked onto a trailer yet.
  16. Yep, ive had lots that the coolant will freepour right thru them, usually along with a hydro-locked engine.
  17. I had this problem today on a head gasket job. 2007 f-350. Had egr cooler and oil cooler done at another dealer, 2000 km ago. They claimed tsb ops, including recondition turbo. I end up with it, 6l low on coolant, venting out rad cap etc..... So on my test drive i notice a half hour turbo lag, followed by a 35psi over boost, ( and rad cap squealing on every acceleration) any ways, i pulled appart the turbo and found the unison ring has become part of the chra from rust buildup, and the unison ring has a monstorus gouge dug in it from the cam trying so hard to move it. I wonder what ford will say when they get this chra back that was "cleaned" 2000kms ago?
  18. I would think a relay would be the simplest solution? Unless there is a brand of controller not affected by that wire being grounded?
  19. I have one as well, only misses at idle, no circuit dtcs , only a contribution code for that hole. Would a chaffe or loose connector set a circuit dtc?
  20. HaHa, just noticed reading it that the spec is now 15` min, according to this guy. What a turd.
  21. Ok, heres a funny metric to imperial conversion story. I subbmited a prior approval form for head gaskets on a 6.0, after completing all tsb tests, result was leaking head gaskets. filled out fields in form, and the eot vs ect diff was max 5`c @ 100`c operating temp. Here is hotlines response: "Chris, based on the results from ect vs eot being 5c when converted to Farenhieht (41f) it exceeds the min spec of 15 degrees for the ect vs eot split. The oil cooler heat exchanger will need to be replaced prior to suspecting the head gaskets for this concern. The oil cooler kit does not require prior approval. A restricted oil cooler can create the same results as faulty had gaskets. Once the oil cooler kit has been installed re-test for normal operation. If found that the head gaskets require replacement update the forms." I quoted this word for word, spelling mistakes and all. After i read this I was mad as hell. Who are these douche bags aproving us to repair this shit? I sent back the form, and was very rude, including a correct conversion to farenhiet for them. I guess i should have hung the cooler and then re submitted for approval on gaskets. And then i had to resubmitt for a turbo as well, as one of the 3 small screws had a fight with the turbine wheel at some point in the past, and the wheel lost. So that was 3 prior approval forms for this job, for a wopping .3. Fuk me.
  22. Ya , that'll be great hey. Have to build a set of temporary cab bolts with wing nuts, set cab back down, push it out, wait for parts.
  23. I used that solvent once too. Same deal, pain in the butt, smells like crap, and smell doent go away for days. Went back to using brake clean, seems to work ok, but i am fighting with a 93 e sd motorhome a/c system right now for contamination, and cant seem to get it clean.....
