  1. Awsome analogy! Where do you come up with this shit? I want to learn. Do you hold classes?
  2. It rarely breaks 5`c in our shop in the winter, would have to find a way to unshrivel it first!!!
  3. Awww, i (meaning my back) kind of like cab off repairs now. Especially torquing 36 head bolts!!!!! lol.
  4. Around here a 50km tow is more like $400, but still. Oh well, we dont make money off the smart people.
  5. I agree with your side note Kieth, and i try to stress that to our apprentice, dont just follow the pinpoint test and answer the questions, What should you be seeing and why? I always print a wiring diagram fist and get an overview of the circuit in question. We were talking about errors int the pc/ed at a training course once, and i made the comment that we need to be smarter than the pinpoint tests. I think it was taken the wrong way, as i got some dirty looks, but its true. If all we do is read instructions and answer yes or no, then why do we need any "specialized " training at all?
  6. I have a home made jobby out of 1/4" x 4" flat, mine has slotted holes to fit most kinds of diff, same length as top drawer an my roll cab ( about 4' ish)Works ok, and price is right.
  7. Ive seen wayyyyyyy worse ones than that, wishing now i took pictures. I knew who put them in too, thought of removing one and ramming it somewhere!!!
  8. I had one of them to, drove till it wouldnt move its own weight, made it about 50 kms on pure gas. Worst parts was he figured out he put gas in when it started smoking at the gas station, but figured he could save a tow bill.
  9. job creation for the dealer where ever he lives. I saw one drive by the shop yesterday with a 19 foot 2 axle travel trailer behind. Sure its not a super heavy trailer, but is 5 feet longer than an escape, and probably out weighs it by 1.5.
  10. that poor cd4e!!!! Quote: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvWwJrvUki0 CHeck out that link to show the true power of a AWD escape
  11. Mine has one as well. Dont see any really major problems with these either, decent on fuel, and if its awd goes anywhere in the snow. Only thing i notice with ours is the cruise control sucks, over accelerates up hill and kicks it down to second gear, 4500rpm, then lets of right away.
  12. I did one that i had the cac out of as well, was easy to turn over fuel cooler rad, next time i will pull cac, much easier to remove than bumper.
  13. I had cab off of a flat deck with spare tire rack over cab. Warranty paid 3.5 mt to remove and reweld spare tire carrier for cab removal.
  14. Make sure you do a reflash as per the coolant loss tsb as well, that'll take care of his tuner .
  15. Ha Ha, Fire a customer. I have always liked that one.
  16. I cant find ours either. It left before i started there. I use a 1 3/8" open end crowfoot, 3/8 drive, (proto i believe) and a 3/8" breaker bar. Allows rotation and reconfiguration of tool, and using a 3" extension can still get on them with turbo on.
  17. Flat rate here, usually do pretty good, but its been grating on me lateley. have trained, (aka babysat)4 new techs in last 2 years, only to have them quit or get fired in first 6 months, have a good secondyear apprentice, but he's fairly green, and now a boneheaded very slow moving parts counter guy. Ive taken to looking up lots of my parts, among other tasks, and find my efficiency falling to the toilet because of other peoples lack of ability or care. I also get alot of the so called unfixeable problems, and lots of "can you double check the diag on that job".
  18. Hey Bruno, Rick Christie showed that too us at the last course i was at, Ive never had to do it in the past either, dont know if they changed it or what?
  19. If its a standard what kind of shape is the dual mass flywheel in? if it still has one?
  20. We just got a couple of emergency ordered ficms from the vendor, and guess where they came from? The caterpillar reman facility. Another good one is the tsb for the blend door motor on an 05 -08 f-150. Gives part # that is backorder usa, as is the old part #. How are we supposed to keep customers happy?
  21. I found that too, easy to get to the valve cover , but then it is a chain reaction, remove the fuel rail, then you have to replace hp fuel line to pump, so then it becomes cab off.
  22. mix up between the engine design and the software engineers maybe, someone got the firing order mixed up? I have one in the shop right now that showed #8 missfire on power balance and codes to back it up, but when #4 injector was cancelled popping out intake went away. Sure enough #4 exhaust valves are siezed in head an rocker broke off. I fixed an 06 cummins a month or so ago for a #5 injector problem, on our snap on solus scanner, the power balnce function lists the cylinder # in the order they land in the firing order. Problem was with #5 but when #2 was cancelled the engine ran the same, sure enough #5 is second cylinder in the firing order. I wonder if the 6.4 power balnce is doing the same thing?
  23. I dissagree that its related to the latest reflashes, i have replaced 3 in the last month that i can verify never had any of these reflashes, not even the running after key off one. One was an 04 with no flash since new! They are also very hard to come by right now! Any word on when more will show?
  24. I thought i saw an old post about this but i cant find it. Any way, how are you guys doing bed plate seals on these, and what kind of actual times? I have a set to do, but have no engine stand. I have never had a 6.0l out yet( in 4 years, must be luck). Whats the easiest way to remove engine? cab off?
  25. I`ll have to watch for that oe. I have seen a ficm relay burnt up causing no start, maybe from bad connection and arcing.
