  1. I guess their theory would be that with no cylinder pressure, head deflection or warpage "should" be non existant, so if only 1 bolt removed at a time, the clamp on the head gasket may decrease but not actually go loose? May work in theory but i dont think i would ever do it. Any leaking gasket i have seen has burnt off the sealer, so then what?
  2. Quote: Is that due to an after axle tank, or did they pay $3 bucks a gallon for high quality H2O No, its actually caused by water in the oil from a bad egr cooler failure (or 2 back to back as in this case) This is actually the second time i have seen this. Just hung 8 injectors and rechanged the oil ( i also did it when egr cooler and oil cooler replaced) Runs good now.
  3. I just pulled one that is plugged right to the top of the coolant inlet port. Another dealer changed an egr cooler, lasted 1500 kms and puked again.Customer called headgaskets, but I suspected oil cooler so i pulled it, and found it completely plugged. I have plans to cut it open as well, when i can find time. Now it needs 8 injectors because of the water in engine,( twice in one week probly doesnt help either) test drove it 20km, ran good. 3 days later customer picked up, drove 40 kms and started missing, now doesn't start at all.
  4. I think it comes up in programmable parameters on the ids. I reset one by accident once and the guy was kinda pissed at me.
  5. I bet some frieght trains can out brake that rig!!!
  6. I have seen it on a couple of 05 vintage units. Same deal, hole in case.
  7. Im pretty sure it was the case. May have been "usa stock" though, thats still 7 to 10 days for us.
  8. See, we dont get to see any of these wpm updates/ revisions. I dont think our sm reads them, let alone passes them on down.
  9. It was 6 cases bud light lime, and and 18 of bud. I'll look around for a plate, i am currently using all mine, but i might have one at the shop somewhere. Oh , retail fan clutch. Last dealer he was at flagged his warranty for a chip. Also the ones who broke the holder on the fan clutch wire clip, which caused his problem.
  10. We cost compared it and by the time we bought a case ( backorder usa) and a pump, converetr and seals kit it was close. So we just put in for and fqr and they approved it. After sending pictures and and and, took ten days for approval. Tieing up my only 2 post for that time. oh well.
  11. If Ford doesnt reccomend servicing based on hours, then how can they administrate warranty based on hours?
  12. I had a record setting customer bribe (for me anyways) to stay a couple hours late and replace a fan clutch that ate its wires tonight. I had to hang around till 6:30 and wait for the part , installed and on the way home by 7:00, and he gave me 7 cases of beer!!!!! Plus the 3.2hrs flat, plus i did another job while waiting. Anyways , i had an 18 + hr day today, and got 7 cases of beer. If only all days were like this!! ( I was going to stay late and fix it for him anyways, before the beer showed up.)
  13. I just did and egr cooler / oil cooler today, We use mitchell on demand for our retail times, usually they pay very well, but for this job the tsb time payed about the same. Between diag, vent hydro lock, re and re coolers, coolant flush, replace engine oil and filter comes in at 11 hrs. Mitchell gives 8.1 for egr cooler re and re,.8 cooling system diag, 1 hr eec test, .7 coolant flush / replace, and a svc 1 for .5 = 11.1. I guess i would add 1 hour to replace oil cooler heat exchanger to that as well. For some reason oil cooler re and re in mitchell only pays 6.7 vs egr for 8.1. Strange. Anyways i just went with warranty time.
  14. I think it should work, will need a flywheel and clutch for a 5.0l though.
  15. Excelent idea Aaron, ive thought of doing that at work for some common repairs as well, only ford usually issues a tsb for the really common shit.
  16. Loud is an understatement. It actually drove in the shop, and ran for 30 second or so while i assessed the noise. ( with my ear muffs on) I finally got approval on tuesday to fix it, so new engine and trans went in on friday. First time ive ever changed a trans out the top of the chassis.
  17. I agree Kieth, for fuel filter jobs i bleed at the shrader valve a bit. But if the hp has been open.....
  18. I have wondered that as well. I did one retail last week but the customer wanted his old parts. Somebody must have a spare they can cut up for Pictures?
  19. Im trying Aaron. I cant get pics to upload. I got 2 to work, but none of the closeups of the engine will upload. Maybe Kieth can help?
  20. Note that the banjo bolt is not hollow on the ford kit, it blocks all return fuel from reentering, and forces it out the hose. I have used parts from our fuel pressure test kit, but it failed to remove all air bubbles once and left me stranded halfway out of the shop. I also tried to put a ballcock on our ford issued one, which is how i discovered the blocked off banjo bolt. PS.. dont do that, it cant be shut off.
  21. Anybody ever see the crank snap like a twig at the #4 main bearing? Engine still ran, made a godawful noise though. Rear of crank flopped around so much that torque converter mangled the trans bellhousing, rear cover, and broke the flexplate. I'll try to take some pics tommorow.
  22. I actually had an experience with a non responsive iat2 sensor causing a severe over active egr valve last week. Smoked (black) on tip in consistantly when warmed up, egr cmnd shot to 100% an every tip in. Pissed around for a few hours, and noticed if i took command of egr @ 0%, concern was gone. Also found that @ 100% egr command, egr vp @4.5v, driving under load, iat2 was only 10`c warmer than iat 1. Cleaned iat 2 sensor and concern was 100% fixed. This was on a 2006 with 85000 kms.
