  1. sounds like a ficm failure, i have had lots do this same symptom, check ficm m voltage pid while cold starting.should be 48 v.
  2. i believe the hole in the back is where the ipr vents excess oil.
  3. If the job can be done this way without compromising the integrity of the repair, then whats the big deal? Im sure it takes more than my comment to have the slts reduced to 1 hr. Obviously there has been a trend of short time punches for this repair, And besides that i still punch 1.5 to do it that way.
  4. I had an issue with one that wouldnt build frp. I tried to remove glow plugs and crank, saw no fog. installed injectors upside down and cranked, instantly got severe leakage from return port on one injector. This test worked well for me, but is very intrusive and time consuming. I lucked out and hit the right bank first try. But if it went to 8 injector removal, its alot of work. There has to be an eaier way.
  5. Quote: And we are left to make decisions we shouldn't have to make... Thats the stupid thing though, if the parts are defective, replace them and make it right. It shouldnt be a decision. Its too bad the money ordeal is starting to override customer satisfaction. I replace headgaskets on every truck that builds cooling system pressure, and egr cooler. I have yet to see an oil cooler fail the bench test procedure, but have seen many fail on vehicle. I personaly have not removed a set of headgaskets that hasnt been burnt to oblivion on atleast 4 cylinders. Some on vehicles that barely get to 12 or 14 psi. Im starting to think we could take gaskets out of a good truck and find something wrong. So now how can ford tell us that our warranty costs are too high, when all were trying to do is keep their customers, and besides, they built these things, not us.
  6. Not sure if its the same, but i was dealing with a gas truck a while back that wouldnt kick down, at wot full load , the load pid never broke 70%. After several calls to hotline i found an engineer that knew a fair bit about it. He stated it is a calculation based on rpm, maf, map and tp. Since a diesel has these sensors i think it would be close to the same, exept ebp and mfdes may come into play. Only the guy that writes the program knows for sure i guess.
  7. What it boils down to..... If I see a missing bolt - I install one (unless it is <that> PS pump bolt)..... and I note that on the RO, make a punch for it and try to make myself look like a hero for being conscientious. That bolt is somebody elses missing bolt... IT AIN'T MY MISSING BOLT!!!!! And it goes back to something I've been saying all along.... Be <THE MAN>... be conscientious.... strive for perfection.... get in peoples faces over it. Be all that you can be... and reap the rewards. Your future is all about YOU.... but you wont do it without having customers and staff on your side. I agree Jim, Couldn't be said better.
