Engine idle only and PCM replacement
Matt Saunoras replied to Matt Saunoras's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
All systems pass on this truck. It's not pending any DTCs after the fix or exhibiting any other concerns that I can see. I did try raising the idle to 2000 RPM and letting all my EGTs get to 300°F. It did not do anything. I drove it in circles around the lot, nothing. It will go a max speed of 5 mph. I had a 2012 F-350 today that said "speed reduced to 50mph in 34 miles, exhaust fluid fault". After a couple EGT sensors and a reprogram I did the exact same thing in the parking lot, let my EGTs increase to 300 with no other faults present and it cleared itself out. Drive cycled it, all passed. From what I gather (and there is an SSM) once the truck is in idle only mode it cannot be cleared out and the PCM must be replaced. I am not sure if this is specific to 13-14s or what. This is the only truck I've ever had that was idled. Several similar hotline contacts that I read all said the same thing, pcm replacement. I just wish I could get one. -
Engine idle only and PCM replacement
Matt Saunoras replied to Matt Saunoras's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I still don't have a PCM for this truck. The company that owns it also owns roughy 4000 super duties all up and down east coast. The manufacturer is authorized to direct ship me one when they become available. Tried everything I could think of on this PCM. Somehow we need a way to blank these things. Even putting in as built does nothing because as soon as its plugged into the truck it recognizes it. -
Nope, I'm fairly new to the diesel world and that's my earliest memory, 6.4 exhaust leaks. I've been noticing more and more with a leak between the turbos too, nothing I really noticed before recently. I still, if possible, prefer to pull the cab to do 6.4 exhaust manifolds. Even a partial cab lift, anything for just a little more room.

No idea, I am getting one shipped in from a dealer 300 miles away for one outside right now. DOW showing the date off backorder as 10/28/2014

Windows 8 Start Button
Matt Saunoras replied to Keith Browning's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
I don't care for the "apps" and tiles either. More stuff I would rather not sift through. -
Yeah one of the NPF ecoboost F-150s is back. I got a chance to look at it and it's doing the same thing. I bet it needs a pump. Today started off interesting. I have, through hotline, the W&P manual and other sources, convinced my service manager that this damn ambulance should be subsequent damage based on the fuel injector failure, there is nothing else wrong with this engine other than what happened with #2. We are going to attempt a warranty claim on the shortblock, one head and a CHRA. I am going to install the other head and main engine harness which was part of the original CP quote. If they pay the claim the rest of the parts will be on the ambulance company. None of this should have taken a week but NOTHING gets done around here in a timely manner. I have been really angry about this whole situation the last few days, I feel like I can't possibly do any more on my own and I basically trust no one else in service to adequately handle anything. I don't know what to do. So first thing this morning. We go and pick up a customers car (who lives an hour away). It's a 2011 MKX in for 4 tires and state inspection. The car gets dropped off outside, registration handed to me and away we go. Wait, no we don't, where are the keys (IKT)? Not in it, not on the dispatch desk? Oh they're still at the customers house, how convenient. Luckily it was raining outside this morning and I got to remove 4 tires in the parking lot. Good thing for floor jacks and super long air hoses. I managed to get 4 tires mounted and balanced before the keys were in my possession.

What the hell kinda belts are those!?

So how in the fuck do you get authorization to tear down a 6.0 in an ambulance, sit on it for a week, then get word that they don't want to fix it. Now fucking what? What the hell do I do with a junk shortblock on the engine stand? Do I offer to locate an aftermarket longblock? I don't know what needs done to sell work around here but it isn't happening. I am going to find out for myself if I can service part warranty this injector and subsequent damage, I am so tired of relying on my SM to do anything. Today I get an ecoboost F-150 with a hard brake pedal when cold. Found the vacuum pump inop. 2 other guys NPF'd 2 other trucks for this concern. Also the pump is on backorder, problems?

Keith anymore I am my own parts dept. If I want something "in-stock" I better count on getting it myself. I bet I have an overhead that would rival any dealership tech out there. Yes I sell parts under the table to my good customers and no I don't give a shit who knows about it. Sorry /rant

Yup nu-di part # 420-376 is what I have listed. Also cummins part # 3164098 The hard shell is international itxttwx404812 and the pins are itxttwx404833 (2)

I have to dig through my papers at work. I believe I have the nu-di number and also an international number for the hardshell only. Possibly a cummins number too if you're a dealer. Obviously no number exists through ford but I caught a post on the FMC boards and printed it out.

Alright I finally had a chance to go on catalog advantage and do some digging around. I still don't understand why 2004 MY lists 2 different lower radiator hoses but here are the numbers 3C3Z-8286-AJ, this fits the original 4 o'clock outlet and 03-04 with the fitting style radiator 5C3Z-8286-A, this is listed under 2004 as a 3 o'clock outlet and I don't know why. The only 3 o'clock outlet front covers are the 05+ f-series covers. This is the hose I used to adapt a newer front cover to an 04 engine. After a little playing around I found this hose is also listed for a 05+ 2WD truck. Must be something with the drag link location that has this hose routed differently. Whatever it is worked perfect. I imagine you could take any 05+ f-series front cover and adapt it to any 03-04 with the hose number above and a 100mm water pump if needed. I am not 100% certain but it's worth trying. Right now the 03 90mm cover and 04 100mm cover are on backorder, the 05+ covers are also on back order but emergency orders are being taken, locator is showing about 30 in the states.

There are 3 different seal installers. 99-04, 05+ f-250/f-350 then the 05+ 450/550 use a deeper version that fits over the bigger axle. At the shop here we have an OTC master kit. It has enough different adapters to quickly do a set of super duty balljoints. The only thing it doesn't easily fit was the bigger 08+ 450/550 balljoints. They're still doable it just requires some thought

My first 6.4 repair...
Matt Saunoras replied to 66glide's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I don't know what happened there. Cause or effect? Did the lifters fail causing the rockers to break or did they fail as a result of the rockers breaking? -
Well I have my first one. G400 was not attached correctly by the body builder and the truck set 5 reductant related faults. Of course they just kept driving it until it simply wouldn't drive anymore and towed it in. 2k miles on the clock and we have a pretty expensive brick sitting here. Have you guys had any of these? I cannot get this truck to do anything but idle even though all the faults are corrected. I see PCM replacement in my near future but I also see its on backorder, wonder why? I can't believe no one has figured out how to blank these PCMs.

6.7 Turbo/Wastegate "flutter"
Matt Saunoras replied to fordboy1987's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I have only seen one truck do this since my last post but the guy wasn't complaining about it. It was a 2011 pickup, probably has close to 40k miles on it by now. -
Fuel rail does have to come off but don't worry much about the supply lines running from the high pressure pump. Change the injector feed lines of course. Popping through the intake and no rockers missing? I would suspect a lifter for sure

My first 6.4 repair...
Matt Saunoras replied to 66glide's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Here is the result of the last 2 broken rockers and bent pushrods I had. The rollers were intact still but not for long -
Wow that's something I always worry about especially with these e-series turds that you can't see anything on how does the valve seat look?

Engine rattling/ticking noise
Matt Saunoras replied to Ficm's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
You may have multiple worn rocker arms causing the noise but the STFT shows something of some concern. It's possible it's one single rocker arm but I'd be suspicious, I have seen lots of #2 cylinder walls washed out. Well not lots, but more than you can count on both hands. If absolutely nothing shows up base engine related I have swapped injectors to find the miss follows. -
There is an option listed for a lower rad hose for an 04 that should fit the 05 front cover and 03-04 rad just fine. I don't believe they were designed to fit with each other but it worked good on the truck I had. I don't remember part number off the top of my head. The problem I ran into now is the 04 cover being on backorder also is the same one that fits all years of e-series. There's no chance a 05+ f-series cover could fit on an econoline. I am honestly considering picking up a used one on ebay to save my ass. Date off backorder is the end of August
