Seized EGR Valves
Matt Saunoras replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
uh oh oops, atleast the tool didn't break -
I am addicted to ebay right now. Owning a 6.0 and buying factory parts under cost is the cat's meow did I mention I got a brand new unison ring for $26?

I've done two 6.4 reprograms finally without issue. It is the IDS toughbook, I've been plugging it in and it's been programming great

Front axle dust seals
Matt Saunoras replied to dieseldoc's topic in Driveline: Transmissions, Clutches and Axles
The only 2 I've ever done reside on my truck -
6.4 horizontal cooler coolant feed tube was leaking and took out the cooler with it. thermostats broken apart causing the eng not to warm up and a dpf showing overloaded. All customer pay I've upsold 30hrs worth of truck work in the last 2 days. Just finished a ton of work on a 02 350 dump. It's been going steady again, I hope it stays that way update - did my first blowgun regen and it worked great

anyone notice the new front cover?
Matt Saunoras posted a topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I have no idea how long this has been out. We've got one in now getting an esb and noticed the front cover has been redesigned behind the water pump. Notice the notch sticking out that was never present before. Hopefully that resolves the cavitation issue. -
noted, thanks rob

The 03 engine year glowplugs are 1.2mm longer than the later years. For 2004 engines the piston design necessitated a shorter glow plug This is info out of the 04 coffee table book. As far as overall length someone else would have to chime in

One of the trucks I just put coolers in came back today, cust says coolant is low and oil looks milky. Well the coolant isn't low and it's not losing pressure anywhere, it's on the min line as per the added sticker. So I pull the oil dipstick and immediately I notice something isn't right with the oil. It's not a typical smell of coolant or fuel. The oil is at a normal level but it reeks I can't put my finger on it, so I pull it in and drain about a quart out of the pan. The smell is familar but not enough that I can pinpoint what might be in the crankcase. It's a smell comparable to gear oil, but if you smell gear oil then smell this oil it's not the same. This oil only has 120 miles on it since the truck left and if I recall correctly the truck had some pretty bad stiction issues. About half of the injectors never clicked on the self test. Now, suprisingly, it's running like a top. Now I know what 120 mile oil should look like and this almost appears to have a dark green tint to it. My question is has anyone ever smelled hotshot's secret oil additive? I hear it's dark green in color and it has a distinct smell but I'm not sure the customer would have complained about the oil condition if he knew an additive was in it. I guess it's possible one of the drivers added something to the crankcase. If i can verify it's an additive that's supposed to be there I'd be happy, otherwise it's getting another oil change

Seized EGR Valves
Matt Saunoras replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I took the old tool with the stripped out nut and welded it back into place. Haven't had to use it since I did that either -
Used 6.4, just traded in, smokes blueish white occassionally on roadtest, no codes, no other symptoms other than it was in regen when it was happening. It's just out of powertrain warranty Still thinking about this one, no oil in the downpipe but I'm thinking the high pressure turbo is out.

The parts manager drives me crazy some times but I have to remind myself that he doesn't set the prices, ford does. I'm unfortunate enough to be looking over his shoulder when he's looking up parts and when I see the mark up on some of these things I can't believe it. All the international parts sourced parts are the worse. Unison rings are my hot button right now. $171 list? You've gotta be kidding me Didn't the list on diesel fuel filters just come down?

The Diesel That Saved Ford?!?!
Matt Saunoras replied to robsmth41's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I read public diesel message boards a lot and there are enough guys that like their 6.4s to make me really wonder. I'm sure I share the same views as everyone else on here but we're defintitely all biased too. We see the worst of the worst -
6.7L Injector Line socket?
Matt Saunoras replied to Keith Browning's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
Just did my first injector on the vehicle and a 17 flare nut socket would be perfect, though I used a crowsfoot because that's all I had it does tell you to use a flare nut socket in the wsm. -
76.02A, IDS locked me out of a 6.7 reprogram yesterday. It was at the very end where it would normally clear DTCs so nothing became of it. It has to be a problem with our machine. I had a charger on the veh but not on the computer

well the injector and recalibration fixed the low power. Working on getting the turbo out now. There is a lot of oil in the compressor housing and the wheel is starting to make contact oh yeah and another F-150 6R80 getting yanked for a bellhousing leak, there's a TSB for pump replacement.

11 F-550, low power off accel. It definitely has a low contributing #7 injector and I heard some unusual turbo noise on the roadtest. I'll replace the injector and retest it tomorrow. I know it needs a turbo but I'd like to see if the injector has anything to do with the low power concern first. Not really sure on that one

I sent a couple out to have a new slot machined, we'll see how they turn out

Victor Reinz GS33445 is the only thing I can find as a possible service part for these seals. They are referred to as a "Pressure Upper Injector Oil Inlet Seal" Still looking for info regarding a socket to remove these tubes they also list this as a replacement for W301373, this is an upper injector seal for a 7.3 injector. I wonder if it's the same o-ring?

Well lets see here. This week I have a 4.0 sitting in my bay on a furniture dolly. This is for the explorer that's been outside without an engine for well over a month. That's waiting for my rack to free up which currently contains an 2010 F-150. It's been on my rack since Monday. The torque convertor let go and metal is through the entire trans. That's my first 6R80 teardown, it's getting a box which was ordered on tuesday and hasn't arrived yet. Behind it is an 07 F350. It's getting 5 injectors, coolers, turbo clean, hpop fitting and some dummy plugs. The intake is about carboned shut. I've gotta go in tomorrow to finish it because it only came it at 1pm today and they need it by monday. So I've got 3 of a kind, gas engine, diesel engine and auto trans. I'm starting to feel like they're getting they're moneys worth outta me

Well I put 76 in today. We'll see how it is
