  1. Similar in the fact that it's a VGT, however really nothing else about it is the same. Actually the turbo is cooled by engine coolant, you'd think it would be a little more durable Not sure who makes the 6.7 VGT, is it garrett?
  2. Last week I did an 11B23 with 75 (and it still blanked the pcm and locked up) I did notice after the PCM programmed it was done, no tcm update. Honest question guys, while we're on the subject, is anyone else still having problems programming the 6.4s? Before 75 I could shut the computer down, re-open IDS, the session would resume and it would automatically recover the module. Now with 75 the session is gone. I have to manually enter the VIN and tear tag to get the PCM back. Every single damn 6.4 does this. Did a 6.0 on monday, it was fine, all 3 modules, no issue
  3. I mated the tranny and set the engine into the mounts before I realized the tone ring was still on the old long block. luckily I didn't get as far a you but I did have to figure out how to dig a convertor nut out of the bellhousing in the process
  4. I left it sit all weekend, went in IDS to reprogram it this morning, key on, hmmmm that's some weird injector cycling. 4 don't click on the self test and 2 were dead on startup for a 10-15 seconds. It'll be back, but who knows how long it'll take
  5. air quality is the least of her health concerns
  6. yeah I wouldn't be surprised. Actually if you run the oasis it's had over 10 injectors replaced and 2 HFCMs under warranty. it's out now and has never been here for service
  7. You wouldn't believe how many times guys come in the shop from other truck shops asking how to install it that fitting. They of course return soon after the part was purchased
  8. Had the first one today. You know if that caps busted the filter under it cant be in good shape. I Put coolers in a truck and on the test drive it was an absolute slug. Never touched the cap because it was broke so I knew nothing of the condition of the fuel filters. I used an air chisel and gently worked it loose. The filters were plugged solid, actually the lower was an old style without the o-ring, it was solid black sludge I could scrape off with my nail. Filters fixed it to a good running condition again. It amazes me how people will just drive these things until they hardly run anymore.
  9. The cab in chassis engines get a different turbo entirely. It's a standard VGT turbo while the other trucks get a dual boost turbo + wastegate As far as I know the engines aren't any different but surely the calibration is.
  10. Did that 6.7 rad this morning. You can definitely can make warranty time doing it the 6.4 method. I didn't look too hard at the wsm but I left the fan shroud, secondary bottle, intercooler, batteries, etc all in. Pulled the grille, headlights, core support, secondary rad, condenser and unbolted the shroud Once that was done sold 5.4L manifolds, balljoints, u-joints, and a draglink on a 01 F-250. Then looked at a 05 thats getting a hpop fitting, coolers and the turbo cleaned. oh yeah and I'm breaking in a new tool cart I have another one identical to it but I may or may not have set a car down on it
  11. Sorry I misread the thread. Keith I thought you meant flare nut like a crowsfoot flare nut socket. I've only ever used crowsfoot sockets on fuel lines I have one 18mm flarenut socket I use on power steering lines but the thought never occured to me to use a 17mm on fuel lines. I will definitely be trying this though.
  12. 17mm crowsfoot but I'm not using a flare nut. I have a flare nut set but I bought the the open end just for those lines
  13. I don't know yet, the rad will be in monday and I haven't looked in the wsm yet. I've got 6.4 rads down to a science so if that's the way to do it, it'll be no problem
  14. 3 trucks I looked at today and none amounted to a damn thing. 2 6.7s, one's getting shift solenoids the other needs a rad and EBP tube. Looked at a 6.4 zf6 for the shifter housing boot being ripped and leaking
  15. hasn't been anything in my bay since 2pm this afternoon. 3 trucks on the schedule for tomorrow though
  16. My manifolds leak a little when cold but seal right up warm. Gaskets will fix that as there are none in there from the factory. Not really an issue unless the cust is complaining of a smell. Definitely put a ficm in it for the P0611 and you're right for thinking atleast a half the injectors. With a lack of maintenance I'd be thinking more along the lines of a bunch of spools gummed up. I'd be inclined to pull the intake to clean and would probably sell an oil cooler if I was already in there (if you can get one) Funny my truck was built 8/05 too
  17. Yes definitely replace the stc fitting if it hasn't already been done. Last 2 I did only leaked hot.
  18. I've been paying $4.19/gal for as long as I can remember
  19. All we did were 2 engines and a fuel system and that was enough to send us spiraling down the toilet. Not to mention I'm one lone guy that does trans work every once in a while and we're high in that too
  20. same here, the one I did the long block in came back a month later with the turbo making noise when cold
  21. did a rad and some filters in a 6.4 today. As of right now we have been ordered from the owner to stop diesel warranty repairs due to the fact we're in warranty counseling. I don't know how long this will last but we've been warned not to do this by our rep. Red flags thrown if we suddenly stop doing diesel repairs. I was informed that 80% of dealers who do diesel repairs are in warranty counseling. How is that even possible?
  22. Upsold a fuel pump driver module on an perfectly good running F150 today. That was a first, I'm going to start visually checking these things regardless of what they come in for. I've done a dozen or so for no starts but it never occured to me maybe check them out before they fail completely The back completely fell apart when I pulled it off. It wouldn't have made it to the new year
  23. I really can't believe any management has the nerve to backflag a good technician. The whole idea pisses me off pretty badly. You're basically being told, we know you worked but we're not paying you for it. I am flat rate but I've never been back flagged a tenth in my entire life. If it did happen I doubt I'd be doing this any longer.
  24. If i had a srw 250 or 350 that I could rack up all the way, strap the trans/transfer case to a jack and slide it all out, it would be MUCH faster than pulling the cab for me I'm becoming fond of the partial cab lift also but I would only try it that way on a truck I couldn't lift up in the air. I haven't done a pump in a while but I won't be pulling cabs anymore to do them
