2008 F550. 51100 kms, 2957 hrs.....Oil cooler and flush. Cab tilt only because the spare tire carrier that hangs over the cab is welded in place to the service body. It's the one with all the EGR cooler installation issues.

Plus..you get ones that roll in like this. Not to mention having the upper hose blow off the thermostat housing during an over heating diagnosis, because it wasn't pushed all the way on. And it needs some DPF diagnosis as well.

My 2012 F550 6.7L has some bearing issues, having to really pull on my breaker bar to get at the torque converter nuts. Boy am I glad we didn't get this thing running.

How does one explain to a customer that their engine is pooched when it was just in 20 KM's ago and was starting and running fine. Case in point: The 2012 F550 in my bay. I was in before for an under carriage damage inspection, nothing else. Replaced a few banged up things then let the truck go. 20 km's later the truck dies while driving and wouldn't restart. P2291 in memory. Truck did start, but stalled when put in gear, now is a not start again. High pressure fuel is over 8000 PSI when cranking and it wants to start, but won't. Clean diesel and no metal, rust or DEF in the system. Compression test has a mix of 200-250 psi...well below the 300 psi minimum spec in the WSM. It's got warranty, but the owner, and us, are baffled on what happened.... ...numbers don't lie and I trust my diagnostic equipment.

2012 F550 6.7L with 88,000 km's and only 210 PSI compression. It's a fleet rental so we are going to try getting some kind of warranty. Just finished a 2015 6.7L that had the MAF go south. No power, DPF reading 250% full and EGR flow codes.

SCT livewire turbo control question.
lmorris replied to lmorris's topic in Upgrade and Aftermarket Equipment
I managed to talk to the driver/owner of the truck and he confirmed my suspicion, he pointed it out to the guy working on it and never heard anything else on it. There is a fitting on the left turbo pipe for the EBP sensor, so I will be putting it in there. I got the feeling from the driver/owner that he regrets getting it done by the company's mechanics. He asked me to make sure everything was done right before releasing the truck to him. -

Leaking Fuel Return Hose
lmorris replied to Bruce Amacker's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Which return line is he talking about? I know that if the black line off the injector is leaking it can damage the injector, which I don't think is a return line more so than it is used to provide pressurized fuel to the injector cup in order to protect it from hammering itself to death. I neglected to make sure the return line to the tank was fully seated on the last one I had apart and it ran fine, other that the couple of gallons of fuel on the floor. Good way to bleed the system IMHO.... -
So a little back story. This is the 2009 6.4L that the customer bought the short block from us and had the mechanics at his work install for him. 7 months later it's ni my bay locked up solid. They also removed the EGR coolers and valve and replaced his Superchip tuner for an SCT Livewire tuner with new turbo pipes, EGT sensors and a nice looking gauge set on the A-pillar. Funny thing is the EBP tube is not connected to the exhaust anymore, and a quick look at the MAP sensor reveals it is horribly restricted. So now for the question. How would the programming compensate for no turbo input? I don't want this to be a fight over who is paying the bill to get it running again.

The sticker says "No Idling" yet these guys idle a lot, total engine hours was just over 1200. So just under half it's run time is idling. Just thought it was a little funny.

2014 Oil pans starting to leak.
lmorris replied to lmorris's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
One thing, the WSM has you remove the nuts that hold the lower battery cable assembly to the pan. Go 1 step further and remove the bolt/studs from the pan itself and stuff the cable assembly as high as you can get it. Makes sliding the pan back in so much nicer, then stuff a block of wood between the pan and the crossmember(select your block and test fit it before removing the pan) that way you don't have to hold the pan while you start the bolts. -

Restoring Modified Vehicles
lmorris replied to Keith Browning's topic in Upgrade and Aftermarket Equipment
I hate to say it but we do some deletes here. Funny thing is that most of them don't want the old systems back, even when we explain that with it back to stock, it will be easier to sell the truck when they are done with it. I had a complete EGR cooler/valve with all the pipes sitting under my bench for 5 months, because the customer was supposed to come get it, that ended up in the scrap metal bin. A few new trucks go out with deletes and all the stuff taken off ends up in scrap bin. -
Got a peek at my first Transit Powerstroke, Coolant wasn't topped up very well when the additional A/C compressor was put on for the rear refrigerated box. Degas bottle was empty, but it took only 2L to get it back to the cold fill line. Finished up my retail 6.7L EGR cooler core. Cylinder head on the 6.7L with the blown out exhaust gaskets is done...might try cab off next time, torquing head bolts over the fender is a bugger. Still trying to get the locked up 6.4L in the shop, they keep booking in work for me and bumping it. 6.7L rad coming in on Monday Guess I can't complain..

I don't think so. We have the car valued at over $87,000 CND.

Whoa...De-javu.... That post seems very familiar...Wait...That was my post... To clarify. I have had a few that fit my post that were head-gasket issues and weren't purging..odd I know, but weird shit happens. Only time I have seen no heat at idle was always a lack of flow. Not to say your's isn't head gaskets. But I would have a peek at the water pump and cover first. Just to cover my ass.

Waiting on the Hotline for some kind of guidance on this one. Personally, seeing as it's still under warranty, I would replace the cylinder head. I doubt the gasket will keep this sealed for long. The lower rear bolt broke as well as soon as I put my socket on it and the gasket was blown out at the rear. Hotline left it up to us. Service manager called the head. I think it's a good call.

How are these guys staying in business? How are they even allowed to make this crap?

2009 6.4L-customer installed an over the counter short block 7 months ago and now it's locked up solid. 2011 6.7L waiting on ok for retail egr cooler core. 2012 6.7L with an exhaust leak at the left manifold. Just finished up an EGR valve and EBP tube on an 04 E350... Thing has 475,000 KM on it. Along with the usual EGT sensors and a few 14E03's left out there that have yet to be done. Starting to slow down on the DEF tank heaters though.

So..what's your level at now..and are you putting any skill points into the lock picking tree? Sorry..had to do that....I just got back into playing a thief character on Skyrim and couldn't resist.

I was actually told by Hotline that this was possible. They can be useful at times.
