  1. Sounds like a bunch of people clapping. Crazy stuff.
  2. The last set I did on a pumped up 6L we had the heads sent out to have fire rings installed, used factory gaskets and bolts. We see the guy every so often and he is pleased as punch. Been over 2 years now.
  3. We still use the old PTS site. We can use the BETA version if we wish. They must be taking their time translating everything into french. BTW does the ctrl-K function to open multiple vehicle sessions work for you guys? It doesn't on our BETA version.
  4. My laptop decided to update to IE9 without my knowing, no biggy, I heard others are using it with no issues. I have one. It keeps popping up runtime c++ shutdown warnings saying it was asked to close in an abnormal manner when nothing is being closed. Then it checks for fixes and asks to close the program, when I click "close program" nothing closes, my windows stay open and running normally. Anyone have this issue? Win7 IE9 32 bit. I only use IE for PTS website. I use firefox for everything else.
  5. I suppose if the VSS spiked enough it would set this code, but the speedo would go funny as well. They all share the VSS signal generated by the ABS system. There should be other concerns if it was a false signal causing the code to set if you think about it. IMHO someone is speeding. Just saying....
  6. P0276 is not listed in the PCED. P0219 is engine overspeed. P0297 is vehicle overspeed. If it is vehicle overspeed there is a set calibrated speed limiter that is constantly monitored by the PCM. Not sure if this can be changed or not. There is no real PPT for these codes either.
  7. When we first saw the 6L, we had a PDI pouring oil down the back of the engine. Traced the leak to the oil cooler gasket and when I removed the cooler I found a nice casting hole where the gasket runs. Not sure how that got past quality control. That thing got a new engine. Also had a 7.3L with a valve cover leak. The top of the head had a chunk missing, new head for that one.
  8. Luckily a quick video driver update fixed it all. This whole pixel shader technology is a PITA. Try to find specs on what your computer has regarding it and you go nuts.
  9. It all started yesterday when my son tried to install the new Microsoft Flight on our computer. It tells us that our video card does not support pixel shader 3.0 and install is stopped. Fine, whatever, I get that the computer industry is mandated to keep updating things, no big deal, we wait for a bit to try the game. WRONG!!!!!!! I got a message this morning from my wife telling me that a popular gaming site that my son frequents is now also telling me that my video card is "OUT OF DATE". Was fine yesterday, what a PITA. Most likely it just needs to have the drivers updated, but I don't trust my son or wife to do this. I wouldn't be so ticked at the thought of most likely buying a new computer so my kids can play games on it, all but for the fact that I just dropped almost $500 on an XBOX with the KINECT just 2 months ago that doesn't get used that much by the kids. The one game that gets played the most on it, I had for our old PS2, which is neatly packed away and still works.
  10. Any ideas on why only the exhaust rockers are breaking on these? Our service manager feels they need to be a tad thinker, but the new ones don't seem to be any different. I have found nothing else wrong on a few lately to contribute to the failure, just the resulting damage. They seem to be piling up now. Have 3 in the works as I type this. Edit: During diagnosis this truck had 2 low cylinders. 3 and 6. With the firing order being 12734568 I was a little baffled as to why it flagged #6. Hotline was no help stating I must have a bad injector because the valve train was good. After racking my brain on this I dug into my memory banks to when I was doing my apprenticeship, which BTW was around 18 years ago for engines. Using the chart from memory to calculate which cylinder is on what cycle I was able to determine that when #6 was on the power stroke, #3 was on the exhaust stroke. Seeing as the exhaust valves were not opening on #3 this would slow down #6 and mark it as low. Jim would be so proud.
  11. A few weeks ago I had one in with 158000 kms for a coolant leak. Found the coolant return to intake o-ring on the EGR cooler leaking. As a precaution I road tested it to make sure the EGR cooler had not blown and that the oil cooler was working properly. Found no issues with either so I ripped off the intake and resealed everything. 3000 km later it comes back in with same leak. Turns out the EGR cooler is now leaking, but instead of blowing the coolant out the tailpipe it was blowing it out past the exhaust port gasket at the intake. Turns out there was some slight imperfections in on the intake and the metal gasket couldn't seal properly. Even though there was no exhaust leak. Very odd and had me baffled and running in circles trying to pinpoint it.
  12. 2010 F350. 6.4L with 60725 KM. Broken #3 exhaust rocker arm. Both exhaust valve tips bent/scored up. Getting 2 new exhaust valves, and a set of rockers for #3.
  13. Mine were never that bad. That should be a no brainer for replacement no matter what hotline says. I usually get management involved in those calls though.
  14. On another note. I just finished up replacing the engine bay harness after an electrical fire destroyed the battery junction box in a 2011 F550. Whoever installed the electric crane on the back of this thing didn't install a fuse or breaker when he wired it up directly to the battery. The switch malfunctioned and you could probably figure out the rest. The installer had the nerve to say it wasn't his fault, despite being told by 4 mechanics(myself included) and our service manager that having a fuse installed would have prevented this from happening. Here's my salute to sub-standard service .
  15. I lift the whole truck up on the frame and use 4 long jack stands under the cab. Then lower the frame and leave the cab up in the air. Got the idea from Keith's video on headgasket repair.
  16. So it is possible that this may be the culprit. Depending on how the truck stalls out I suppose.
  17. What about the under dash fuse panel. Have seen many an issue because of water intrusion. Isn't the PCM power relay part of that fuse panel?
  18. Reads like what we had/have lined up. Guy next to me just swapped out a 5.4L that had dropped an intake valve. He found the stem in the intake manifold. Got a 6.4L blowing out the degas as well, headgaskets for that one. Got a 6L here as I type with what looks like an external coolant leak from the rear of the right head. Just had intake off to change EGR cooler and Oil cooler gaskets/ o-rings for leaking only 2 weeks ago. Seems it may have a couple of other leaks...
  19. Been there, done that. Got the same response. Two sets of heads with this issue, never had any issues after repair.
  20. I like the new drop down windows feature for links. No more jumping between 3 or 4 different menus when going through repair procedures. You can stack them all up and stay on the same page. Very nice to work with. Other than that, I haven't seen any other changes to our site.
  21. If you have never done an EGR valve on an E-series, do not do it like the WSM says to. Remove the intake elbow and pop the valve out with a pry bar. They tell you to remove the mounts so you can get the removal tool in there, but who uses that anymore. Used to make a killing on those when they had warranty on them.
  22. Our guy here that does them has heard that once the tensioner blows out it drops oil pressure at the cam bearing bosses and if they wait to long to fix it, it wears the cams bosses enough that they lose too much oil past the cam and supplies very little oil to the tensioner after the repair. Seems the only real fix here is to put new heads on them the first time.
  23. Just finished cleaning up my tools before dropping the cab after a set of 05 head gaskets. Learned a very humorous and potentially dangerous lesson. After washing down my Span-On 3/8 drive 7.2V electric impact with brake cleaner, yes I used brake clean... , I used shop air to blow out where the battery goes but forgot about the motor area... . You can imagine what happened next.... ... I don't think I will be using this thing on gas engines or fuel tanks. Just thought I would share that.
  24. Onions or Ogres, because Ogres are like onions you know, they both have layers. Know what else has layers? Parfait, everyone likes parfait..... Sorry, had to say that...Funny stuff
  25. If you have the pleasure of changing a front crank seal on one of these, remember to order the slinger, basic 6310. It is not in the picture/listing with the seal or the pulley and it does not come with the new seal. It is in the picture/listing of the crank shaft, because that is where one would look when looking up a front seal, . Hopefully I can re-use the one I am about to remove because it's replacement is 4 days away. Update: After fighting with the seal remover and finally getting the seal out I made a very interesting discovery. Sitting in the battery harness which is bolted to the front of the pan is a small 6MM bolt.....Where did it come from.... Well let me tell you, It fell out of the lower mounting hole for the vacuum pump. Since the whole lower half of the pump had no bolts, that was my leak. Good thing that harness is there or I never would have found it.
