  1. I never get concerned about the high side going too "high". In the old days the blow off valve would release the pressure (around 425 psi.) and nowadays the high side protection switch shuts the system down. If I put a set a gages on a system and high side climbs like crazy, I just let it go and see what happens. I treat them like an overheating concern. It's much easier to figure them out if you let them actually "overheat". I wouldn't be concerned about 300 psi. on a hot day. It takes a lot of air flow at idle in a shop to keep the pressure lower.
  2. I upgraded my all wheel drive 5.0l Explorer to a limited slip rear dif and it can get kinda hairy in a snow storm, she likes to do donuts.
  3. This appears to be the one time that I don't have any pictures in my data to go with this post. I'm gonna have to work on that! Do you wear rubber gloves at work? Because this operation goes much smoother if you have some available. I hook the two shoes together with the top spring and then pry them into place, hook the adjuster up and the bottom spring, and then I poke a hole in my glove at tip of the middle finger and insert the hold down pin so the pin becomes one with the 'ol finger. This allows you to push the pin into the wicked (stupid) recess on the backing plate while you attach the retainers on the park brake shoe side. Badda bing badda boom, done!!!
  4. I reran the vin and there is no warranty repair history in the database. Yeah, I here ya on the IDS. If I ever went out on my own, an IDS would be my first investment.
  5. Used plows can be the biggest pain in the ass you will ever deal with. They are tough enough when it's a brand new kit. Hopefully you are dealing with a Fisher. I rate them as follows: Fisher#1, Boss#2, and everything else is pure junk. We usually get around 4 hours with a kit that has to have the blade assembled. The older ones paid more but you had to drill the frame horns out for 8 bolts (Fisher) or 10 bolts (Boss). New kits go together easy enough but when they don't operate properly is when things go south. I hope this abortion your dealing with goes smoothly. Oh and we get 2 hours to remove old plow kits. So you should be looking at a minimum of 6 hours right out of the gate.

The pin you are looking for in the PCM is 31. The codes you have do not indicate any problems with the vehicle other than the fact that the keys aren't programmed. I would stop altogether on what your doing and see if you can sweet talk someone with an IDS to come over and give it another go. Not sure if you are in good standing with any dealers in your area that could be persuaded into taking a test drive over.
  7. This truck had a fuel pump that was on it's way out. Pressure reading after new fuel pump installed.
  8. It's kinda funny this thread was started, 'cause I worked on a boat today. Very odd goings on lately, the shop is dead and I am desperate for work. A local heavy truck shop owner calls me and says he's lookin at a Ford powered boat that runs like a bag and could use some Ford advise. I picked the heavy truck shop onwer up and we skipped over to the boat place to take a look see. It's a pretty nice unit, a '95 with a fuel injected 5.8 Liter. I don't know shit about boats but it looks like your typical sleek ski boat. The boat shop put head gaskets in it and it wouldn't run very well afterwards. After a little poking and prodding and NGS'ing, the timing was adjusted properly and I determined they had crimped the fuel inlet line from the tank to the lift pump. It worked out pretty good for all involved and I got a bit of a tan while out of the shop.
  9. I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
  10. I am going to say it's not to hard to imagine, because you have one in your bay right now with 8 bottles of stop leak in it.
  11. I deliver mail on Saturdays and listen to Click and Clack on NPR. Been a fan for the past 25 years and glad I have the opportunity to catch their show on a regular basis. They did announce that they are retiring and I was bummed for a bit, but they are getting up there in age and deserve some time off. I used to have satelite radio and listened to metal on my 80 mile commute. But I had to trim the fat around the household and radio stations in Vermont are pretty much non existant. I ride the scooter all summer and wear earplugs so no music 'cept for what's in my head.
  12. There seems to be some interesting conversations over on the Ford boards concerning this recall and the labor time assigned to it. Of some of the talk, the idea of boycotting the whole thing and letting indy's do it has come up. Ford is allowing $1450 for reimbursement allowance. Some interesting talk over there for sure. I am going to give it a go when one comes in and see what happens. I am doubtful of getting it done in 4 hours, but you never know. A similar issue was raised when the torqueshifts were recalled. I made out like a bandit on those and the labor time was pretty low.
  13. That's funny that you mention the smart phone. I had a customer come in with a left rear wheel dumping axle lube out. He just had backing plates replaced. I removed the hub and the seal garder spring had been knocked out when the seal was pounded in with improper methods. I grabbed the customer and he snagged a picture. A phone call was made and pic texted and boom, the offending repair shop paided the bill no questions asked on the spot. It made life nice and easy for the customer and the other shop didn't have a leg to stand on.
  14. We use these in the ski industry on the lift towers for the communication setup from the top lift shack to the bottom lift shack.
  15. The guys that hustle, can do a torque converter in about 2 hours flat (not sure how many bolts get put back in). I don't hustle and the rust factor kills the idea of meeting a 4 hour deadline.
  16. This thing is finally released and unleashed, pays a whopping 4 hours.
  17. Hey, you got all the questions, how 'bout some friggin' answers!
  18. Saw this heap in the shop and got a kick out of it. That air filter is about as big as the master cylinder reservoir. That braided line zip tied to the rad hose goes to a nitrous bottle in the cab. Guy said he just replaced a tie rod end and counted the turns. that was a brand new tire a week ago. I forgot to snag a pic of the aftermarket trans cooler someone just installed after replacing the trans, it was a 'bute.
  19. That's funny you posted this, we had a competing dealer call today and they wanted to borrow our puller. I respectfully told them to go pound sand.
  20. Well, I feel like an idiot! I gotta eat a little crow after I get my foot out of my mouth. First i would like to preface this with the statement that I have been pretty stressed out lately. I just checked the boards and my post weren't deleted. Some how I got back onto the wrong thread and didn't realize it. After posting the above info i realized that I would never suggest checking the cam sensor for that particular fellows concern. The one I suggest rust jacking on was a start with immediate stall. Anywho the fellow just replied back and thanked me for the info and it was indeed a rusted cam sensor pad. Do I feel bad? My rant was unwarranted at this particular time and I should have checked into it a little more but......FMC boards still blow!
  21. The easiest and fastest way to determine if an egr cooler is leaking on a 6.4L Ditto on the "blown" egr cooler equaling a destroyed engine block. this is the last one that had a completely failed cooler.
