  1. My kid doesn't want to cover over his fancy bar grille. However, he has a rotation of air filters for when the problem rears it's ugly head. FWIW, we have had more than our fair share of snow this year. And we have spent more than enough time colder than -30C....... something that is usually reserved for late Jan.
  2. I can see politics isn't going to be a good theme . I used to consider myself a "small 'c' conservative" before I was forced into dealing with my own mortality.
  3. Hair is growing back.... way too slow for my liking. I still get woozy or short of breath the very odd time but I'm a lot better than I have been. I'm on holiday from chemo - this is good. It was two weeks of chemo and one week of trying to recuperate from chemo up until now. My appetite is back - breakfast is between 4 and 5 AM (did I mention sleep cycles are totally pooched?) and breakfast number two is about 8 or 9 AM followed by lunch one and two.......... Sadly, I never got the chance to enjoy some of the herb...... I went to the SL Ford staff Xmas party - turkey, dressing, salads, deserts and a big tray of holubchi. They made a speech for this old fart that brought tears to his eyes and made a presentation - a framed photo of the SL shop staff. They used a kit to clean up the headlight pods on my truck, cleaned my truck in and out (more than once), forgave me two oil changes, stabilizer end links and an idler arm. They put new running boards on my truck and gave me the Xmas bonus I would have received if I was still a full time employee ( a $500 gift card to a local grocers, for those that "need to know" ). The doctors are slowly learning not to use words like "terminal" in my presence. That's up to me and the FSM. I am going to expire "one of these days". This was evident over 60 years ago. Today it is more evident - not because of my current condition - but simply because I'm old enough to just "come my lump". What have I learned? Today could be the last day of my existence. I could be caught in the crossfire of a robbery gone bad, an anhydrous ammonia rail car incident or even just step off the curb at the wrong time. Life is what you make of it. "Do or do not - there is no "try""
  4. Floor spotters - good stuff when you have 3 toolboxes, 3 mounted rig tires, and a full 150 gallon tidy tank in the back in the back of a crew cab. My 4 poster spoiled the crap outta me (27,000 pounds - YAYHOOOO!!!
  5. What did you get, Dave? I spec'd a Bendpak 10K asymmetrical for my buddies man-cave. The idea was to keep "Can I just lift my truck to look under....." at bay.
  6. Rob Ford..... what an embarrassment that waste of skin is. He beats Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann for embarassing. No power outage here, but we did go from -32C to +5C in less than a day.
  7. You need to be careful selecting a tablet. My wife bought one and it turns out it's operating system is Android. Few websites are accessible with it. Tablets are also available with Windoze.
  8. I have one that I've used for years. Originally I just used it on my regular gun with a zerk screwed in but it proved difficult and frustrating. I dedicated a grease gun to the 90 degree end, screwing it directly to the hose. KD or Lisle.... sorry, CRS runs my life.
  9. Kieth, I use chrome as my default browser - it is a "no-go" for the Ford website. Ford is firmly in bed with Micro$oft from all appearances. There is even talk that Mulally will jump ship to Micro$oft
  10. This is out of 2006 parts manual. Left side bracket is 17C886. If it's just the flange that's bent, this is the way to go.
  11. The bumper mounting flange is a serviced item as far as I can remember. I replaced one a few years back.
  12. I can't speak for guys on exploration rigs other than to say that those are mostly all camp jobs - go home and sleep at night just don't happen that often. Pay isn't horrible, AFAIK but for a single young man, living in camp and overtime aplenty are certainly compelling. My son is a driller on a service rig. He spends quite a bit of time in camp but he gets per diem when he stays off site in his holiday trailer. Over $30/hour (driller gets paid more than roughneck, rig hand or derrick man) with overtime available. Being he's a driller, he gets fuel supplied and over a buck and a half/klick for his truck. Depending how hungry you are as a driller, you can earn almost $200K per annum. Downside is that when there's no work or yard time to be had, you are watching soap operas at home (or for many young fellows - just getting blitzed). Techs in our neck of the woods get paid $40something per flat rate hour. YMMV
  13. Sounds like your testing is getting piecemeal. I'd go back to square one - everything back to the way it was when I got it - and start by checking the terminating resistors through the DLC between pins 6 and 14. Your result here will determine your next step. Wiring needn't be the calamity we find it easy to convince ourselves of. I hate to break it to anyone - this truck is NOT new - it's obsolete!!!

    Snow

Started last week. Roads were terrible when we came to city.
  15. Ford wont sanction the EGR throttle as a positive air shut off mostly (IMHO) because of the exposure to liability. It is one thing to deal with an overfull crankcase (doesn't anyone check their oil anymore) but quite another to have a diesel engine sitting in the middle of a megadollar petroleum facility with a sudden hydrocarbon rich leak. Something like the Roda Deaco valve has a far better seal and a lot more oomph than the EGR plate.
  16. In 1968, I went to work as a yard man at an autowreckers - the rest, as they say, is history.
  17. Aaron, I was driven to drop a message on "Monte's" web site (such a friendly, "I'm yer buddy" kinda name, yeah?) <Sir, I was directed to your thoughts regarding regular vehicle inspections by a fellow automotive technician. I have been a licensed automotive technician in the province of Alberta since 1975. I am an Interprovincial Red Seal holder and have been a Ford Motor Company Registered Master Techician for nearly 10 years. Your comments regarding regular vehicle are, at best, poorly considered and border on the inane. It is because of your provincial regulations that vehicles are in decent state of repair. Without inspections and repair requirements (including penalties for non-compliance) you would soon see conditions deteriorate as vehicles age and wear. One only needs to consider that the "SMOG Reports" that were standard fare for news media back through the '50s and into the '70s are of little to no concern to commuters in this modern age because of emissions controls AND THEIR ENFORCED COMPLIANCE. Left to their own devices, many consumers would avoid repairing malfunctions until the vehicle will no longer move. If you are to seek ways to reduce consumer costs, I suggest you look within some of the areas that your legislature pads MLA remunerations. I would further suggest that you consider that we do not own this planet - we are simpley borrowing it from our grandchildren.> You may expect some drunken rambling on the subject this weekend. Heading for home today after latest chemo - have to come back to Edmonton Monday
  18. Any of you guys ever see the size of Aarons lunch hooks?
  19. At least we didn't design our calendar to make us have turkey twice in two months
  20. I hope everyone in gods country is having a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving. And I hope the rest of you had fun celebrating the Italian guy with the funny hat. I felt pretty scummy for most of the weekend but the turkey is finally in the oven, pumpkin pie will be ready to bake when that's done, yams and corn need to be done...... It's a screwy thanksgiving in our bailiwick and we wind up with a 13 pound turkey for two old people. #1 son is stuck working in Edson (double OT) and everyone else had turkey yesterday. Hopefully I'll fatten up a little
  21. I've seen some guys get pretty brutal with that fitting - resorting to brute strength (and pry bars) early in the process. Never seen any broken but have seen a number of mangled ones. Build something idiot proof and they'll build a better idiot.
  22. Gosh...... you old guys just wait. Each passing generation has it's own quirks. Ask me - I'll tell you. Hands up if you open a door for a woman or stand up so a senior can sit.....
  23. If we gets a deevorce, duz that mean you wont be mah sister anymore? An' ahd like to say happy burthday tuh m'uncle dad.
  24. Got close a couple times myself. A 3 foot extension and being careful turns an environmental catastrophe into a walk in the park. There's a lot of things that can take someone by surprise....... over and over and over and...... I have been known to utter "Didja get any in the bucket?"
  25. Jeff, I sympathize with you. Sometimes things just seem to sneak up behind you. Best of luck in all your endeavors.
