  1. I've never been a rap or punk kinda fan, But I do like the Beastie Boys. Sad to see him go. RIP!
  2. Define We! You yourself are also a lucky sailor. You will do what ever your boss wants you to do to earn your paycheck and be lucky enough to pay your bills. I'm not saying you like doing it. I'm not saying you do it either. But we know darned well that it happens in "ALL" Dealerships or at least most. But you do what you have to do to pay the bills. Which is what I find "most" (not all) tech's do. The number of modified vehicles on display on the lots and in the show rooms glistening from being all shined up as per Managements request is staggering all over North America, especially here in Alberta. The changes have to be made at the top of the food chain in this industry. And until they are, you will do what you need to do to earn a paycheck just like other techs will out there in the industry. I see Chad bought a new 2013 Mustang. Any mods, being done to that yet? And if not, when?

  4. Keith, you can buy the interface modules that come with the 6 an 9 pin cables through your local Mac Tools Distributor. They are J-Pro Noregon adapters and will work with the Insite program. All of us Mac guys sell them. You need the DLA+ adapter with a Mac part number of NO512208 or a Noregon adaptor with a part number of 12208. Here is a link for the part: http://www.jprofleetproducts.com/adapters/jpro_dlaplus_wireless.asp Our price up here is $1403.99. Not sure what it will be down there for you. Hope that helps.
  5. Common sense is just not all that common anymore.
  6. Holy Crap! I don't imagine they have any rust on them either down there. They are still quite desired up here as well. It's just hard to find one that hasn't been pounded to death. Makes mine look incredible.
  7. I had a customer complain to me about our Dewalt 12v Max screwdrivers. He wanted me to warranty it for catching fire after cleaning it with Brakeclean and then pulling the trigger. He was actually quite rude about it. He doesn't think it is a safe tool to use. I don't think the tool using the tool is all that safe to be around. I asked him why he didn't bathe in brakeclean to clean himself off before he pulled the trigger. We had a few words and he no longer buys Dewalt. And of coursae everyone else in the shop was laughing their asses off at him. One less headache for me to worry about.
  8. I tend to disagree Jim. 50% of Customers are absolute retards and 50% of society are absolute retards. Retards need to be educated on how not to be retards, but that starts with the retards that sell retards retarded items that the retards are not educated on. Salesmen are the #1 cause of retarded mentality. They do not go through the features with customers and educate them enough about what they are buying. They should have the owners manual in their hands before they even start to educate the customer about their vehicles. All the dealerships have salesmen that are supposed to take large amounts of training that is designed to help them help their customers and educate their customers. But I have seen waaaaayy too many lazy ass salesmen over the years who do not want to spend the time with a customer that the customer deserves. They just want to make the sale and move on to the next sale and forget about the last one. I deal with in the industry I am now in as well. I go to meetings and hear about how retarded some of the product is that we sell because people cannot figure out to use it. There is nothing retarded about the product at all. The retards are the problem themselves and they need to be educated on how not to be retards. You say it all the time yourself...............the owners manual is least read book in the world. It is always still in the unopened wrapper. If the fucking salesman would have taken the time to open that up while doing the walk through with the customer, you as a tech would not have to do what the retarded salesman did not do. Over the years in the trade I have actually seen a few salesman who took their careers very seriously and would take all the training courses they were supposed to. I even sat in a few of those courses over the Stars network or online training myself over lunch hours with these salesman. These salesman were very successful and always had repeat customers come back for more. But the times have changed and most salesman do not care to do this shit anymore. Not only is the trade broken, but the whole fucking industry is broken. Here is the technician once again fixing the problem that is broken at the top. Here is a flat rate technician who is expected to jump into a car and look into his crystal ball and see what all the personalized settings are in the sync system or my touch system and supposed to make a mental not of that and then change a battery and reset all of that shit. This should have been explained to the customer at the point of sales transaction that they may have to know how to reset all of this shit if their battery goes dead. But no, it's once again the technicians fault, because he did not educate a fucking retard that they should know how to do this shit. I agree on making sure a clock is set and making sure the oil change minder is reset when an oil change is done. But to expect everything else to be done is bullshit. I don't phone the power company and bitch to them when my clock is flashing and they should come in and reset my fucking clock. I don't tell them to come and reset all my home theater settings as well. When you go and buy a fucking T.V. do you expect Future Shop or Best Buy to come in and reset all your settings if they are out of wack. You open a fucking manual and learn how to do it. I have never seen a salesman or salesperson at S.L Ford ever open an owners manual and go through it with a customer. I have seen happen at other dealerships that I have worked at. How many times did you tell us as technicians to leave leave the owners manual alone in the glove box of a customers vehicle? Of course I did not listen to you. It was the fastest most useful immaculate piece of unused literature that had all the fuse and relay locations in it for me to read which is what I was taught in Ford school by the way. That is one of the things that is wrong with the trade and the industry. Everyone is turning a blind eye to educating the customer that they have a fucking owners manual. I have to do it more now that ever in the industry I am now in. I am sales, service and parts all in one pair of boots. Did you know that some of the new air tools now say in the owners manual to use 3/8" high flow couplers and fittings to get the proper CFM's of air flow to your air tools. Just like vehicles, technology of tools or anything in this world for that matter evolves. But the fucking retards operating this shit as well as the fucking retards selling this shit need to evolve as well! Anyway, take care old timer and I'm sure I'll hear back from ya.
  9. You need the OEM software to change the parameters in the ECM. I had to do the same thing to my International. You will have to take it to an International dealer who has the diagnostics of someone else who has. It doesn't take long. 5 to 10 min at the most. Thankfully I now sell this stuff and get around it. Do not ask me how I have my hands on OEM software. Oh, and when you get the paramters changed, do not forget to change the parameters in the cruise control as well. If you only change the ECM speed limiter, you will be able to go faster with your foot on the throttle but not with the cruise on.
  10. Are you too far from Revelstoke to apply at Jacobson Ford? I used to work for their Service Manager Walter Little when he was in Alberta. He is a great guy.
  11. You should phone your labor board on that one Chris. I am pretty darn sure that is illegal and I would walk if anyone ever pulled that on me. In fact, I have. You could phone Jim and have a job in real hurry. You can go anywhere for that matter. What the hell are they thinking? Are they trying to change their name to Closing The Doors Ford?
  12. Businesses have gotten waaayyy too greedy. Door rates have gone through the roof and the labor rates have become sub standard. Now they try to bring in all these cheap laborers that could fuck up the Lords prayer and in the end cost these business a shit load of money in fuck ups. I see it in all the shops these days. What ever happened to 1/3 of the door rate as a guideline for a certified base Journeyman? I just had my International in at the International Dealership before the new year for my Commercial Vehicle Inspection. These fucking foreigners can't even figure out that you should put the really nice painted rims back on the outside of the rear duals and not the shitty looking steel non painted rims on the outside. These fuckers have no attention span for detail. Our Labor force is going to hell in a hand basket. From now on, I will be demanding qualified people to work on my truck when it is in for an inspection. At least I do most of the repair work myself. It's when I need an inspection done that I have to worry about substandard people working on my truck. Welcome to the new age of low low standards.
  13. Relocation would be an option for someone who would want to keep a manufacturing job. They can sell their North American Home and all their contents, get in a canoe and paddle their asses to Japan, China, Taiwan, Pakistan, Haiti, or even Europe where all the manufacturing jobs are moving to. If they don't want to stay in manufacturing and don't want to relocate, they can reeducate themselves by taking advantage of the E.I. retraining system as mrbudge mentioned and get a fucking job!. After all most union workers like to take advantage of the system any chance they can get. Just look at Canada Post! But please, please don't send spoiled union workers to Alberta and bastardize our workforce out here any more than it already is.
  14. There are allot of major problems with your whole theory Jim. I admire this theory, but reality is that it will never ever happen. Not in my life anyway. You were saying that we all need to get the ball to pill this off. The fact is that there are more technicians out there tan you may think that do have the balls to pull this off and tried very hard to do it. But the one major road block or brick wall that everyone hits is the "Sales Oriented" Management who have been raised by nothing more than "Salesman". I have worked at a few different dealerships over the years and I have come to the conclusion that in the end they are all the same. They are all ruled by a dictator with leaders under his or her wing that veto every decision you will ever make in your career as a "Professional Technician". I can't count how many times in my career I have tried to have warranty denied on trucks or cars that just plain didn't deserve it. I can't how how many times in my career that I have seen other technicians "try" to do the same only to be shot down and shit upon and looked at as whining sniveling little bastards that don't know jack shit. How many times have any of you heard from Management or the Dealer Principal themselves saying that: "This guy is a damned good customer and buys allot of trucks". Or He's a good customer and always brings it back to us for all his repairs. He brings it to us because Management will turn a blind eye and they are the ones in this industry who are truly to blame for not having the balls! You can have all the balls you want, but if the hand that feeds your mouth says to shut up if you want a paycheck, you will damned well do so. That customers money is worth way more than your "Professional" opinion. I walk into dealerships these days only to see technicians ripping out DPF's, EGR coolers, air breathers etc, and installing all the delete devices all because Management sees this as an acceptable income or practice. Until you change the way the big Dogs at the top of the food chain think, you will always be a slave to their ways of thinking in this industry. To make this industry change, you don't need to convince technician, you change the impossible and change the way Management thinks. I could go on and on about this, But I am too damned busy and need to get back to work. Once again Jim, I admire that theory, but you need to quit looking at changing the issues on the shop floor and look at hoe it would ever be possible to change the corruption at the top in the Dictatorships. After all, what ever they say, you will do! Whether you like it or not!

Anyone remember my post and the photo about the Mexican Manual Regen? I still laugh at the fact that it actually worked. This one was just plained coked from too much idle time though. I wouldn't want to try that on an oil soaked unit.
  16. Jim an I used to talk about things like this allot. Jim is a firm believer in buying locally and supporting locally. I tend to agree with him on this with some exceptions. I try to buy local as long as I know the prices are "FAIR". Service is also another factor. But in the Automotive Dealership parts scene I know you have to shop around especially with my experience of jacked up prices in the past and with what everyone else is talking about on here. The dealerships have created their own image of dishonesty by being way too greedy and they are now starting to get caught at their game. Once a customer realizes they can't trust a dealership, they will never ever trust that dealership. This is the shit that the dealerships forget about. I hate talking about it because of all the pride we have as technicians, but it is a fact. There are other exceptions I made to not shopping local: If the damned town I live in doesn't have it, I go shopping around for it. I too also tend to look on the internet and shop on the internet, especially for bike and quad parts.
  17. No one has mentioned that fact that the diesel fuel we run these days is now Ultra Low Sulfur content and that we have lost the lubricity that these injectors were designed for. I definitely agree with Alex about the extended oil change intervals. And then there are the Scamsoil fanatics that believe in their biased oil analysis that that company provides. Jim can probably remember the 7.3L that I had come in missing on a couple of cylinders and popping through the intake. This truck was a Scamsoil victim for it's whole life with oil change intervals done between 15,000 and 20,000 km's with filter changes approx every 5000km's. The customer was preaching this shit to me and praising it up and down while he was standing there watching over my shoulder as I diagnosed his truck. The customer would send his oil out for the Scamsoil biased analysis and it would always come back good and they would just recommend a filter change. Anyway, when I pulled the Valve covers off, you couldn't see the injectors or any metal. Just black tar and mud along with two bent push rods and rocker arms with the tips worn right off of them. I had sent his oil out to Schell for an analysis and the customer sent out a sample of the same oil for his Scamsoil analysis. New push rods, new rocker arms and a couple of oil flushes fixed that truck up. And the look on the customers face when I showed him inside his engine was priceless. He came back to the dealership about a weak later for some more work to be done on the truck that I had quoted him for and brought his Scamsoil analysis to show me. What do you know? The analysis showed that everything was good and all they recommended was an oil filter change. Then I showed him my analysis. NOT GOOD! Everything was really bad on that analysis, but the one thing that I can really remember was the that the "SODIUM" content was through the roof. Like as if someone had dumped a bag of salt into the engine. Again, the look on his face was priceless. Then I faxed both analysis reports along with a letter explaining the whole situation of this truck to my brother in law who is a Scamsoil dealer and had constantly preached that shit to me for years and argued constantly with me about it. He doesn't preach to me any more. Thank God!
  18. What really pisses me off and always has is that I worked at some dealerships (three that did this for sure)that charge 10% or 15% above "SUGGESTED RETAIL PRICE". I heard customers bitch and chew our parts guys new asses all the time knowing that they could go to the other Ford dealership in the same city and get a better price. And this has gone on for over 20 years that I know of now. These Idiots just can't figure out that it so easy for them to get caught and that bad news travels extremely fast. The other dealerships always tell the customers exactly what is happening. It would be the same mentality as me charging 10 or 15% more for Tools than any other Mac distributor out there charging suggested retail price. It is just plain wrong! However it is easier to catch tool dealers at this practice due to the fact that our prices are online. Now that I am no longer with Ford, man do I shop around for parts now. And I see way way too damned many differences in prices. If your parts departments want loyal customers, they should start by being loyal and honest themselves. Like I said, bad news travels at almost lighting speed.
  19. Dagg Nabbit. I guess that would be Bruce. I didn't even look at the name. Just saw the DTS symbol and assumed. I still have a tendency to do the flat rate reading thing. I still have a hard time getting that out of me. I need to slow down and maybe relax a little more while I'm reading. Maybe I can learn to perfect it like Blittel500: you did say that you had around 800psi ICP at WOT. Was that after or before the IPR?
  20. If all of what Keith said is good, then and only then should you dead head test the HPOP while hot in the No start situation. But definitely check the basics first.
  21. Quit using terms like contamination and tell them that the friggin transmission brake failed and destroyed the whole transmission. Do they really know what the hell you are talking about?
