  1. I've seen a few Dodge pickup cab and chasis ambulances around here now. I do agree that pickup units are a way better option, but there are usually some big wigs that allways have their own ideas.
  2. The reason they like the E-series is because of the ride. I was talking to a ambulance provider up here and he said to imagine yourself having a hip replacement and then having to be transported in an F-series. I asked him about the costs of reapirs with the sick litre though. He said they are rediculous. Thats when I asked him if it wouldn't be cheaper to buy helicopters than pay for the repairs on sick litres. He laughed and said he would look into the costs.
  3. I agree with you Jim. I can read these turbo's just like I can predict PMS for my wife. You just gotta get to know them and how tempermental they can be.HEE HEE.
  4. Awsome, I quizzed Ford on this when the Ids inroduction Fordstar broadcast came out. But they had a brain fart and didn't have a clue what I was talking about. The fifteen bucks is well worth it and goes to a great cause.
  5. As sarcastic as I usually sound, I'm mostly joking about things. Allthough my sarcasm holds truth to it. So I guess I can't complain. I've got a guaranteed income as long as Navistar engines are installed into Fords. But I run llike hell when I hear the advisors and service manager mention Econoline diesel. Our shop Foreman does not have diesel certification and claims that he does not want to work on diesels. But he does all the inspections and work on the ambulances. He just diaged a retail engine failure on one and when the service manager asked me if I wanted to do the engine on it, I laughed and asked him if he was going to send Rob to school for diesel trianing. He said no and I said well there's your answer. The reason for this is that Rob has a habit of allways underquoting. Don't think it sounds bad, I've got it pretty good. Especially when I only have to touch an ambulance once in a while. But opening a Tim Horton's seems like a great idea.
  6. Great Jim, just when I decide I should loose some of my Molson muscle, the thought of drinking heavily becomes quite desireable again. How are you holding up with these things?
  7. I'm sure they will figure out a way to shoe horn that mo fo in there some how. I think I'll quit and become a man !@#!?$! when that happens.
  8. I think Gedore also makes them and you can get them at Princess Auto, if you've got a P.A out your way.
  9. I must agree. I've driven a few now and they are all the same. I've had brand new 6.0l 07's off the lot that are snappier and their enginges are brand new and not broken in either. So I don't believe it's because the engine is tight. I'm not all that impressed. But I do like the interior. This would be a nice truck with a V10.
  10. I should have also spceified that in the winter we are usually between 32F and -10f. But we are just out of the Rocky mountains and we get alot of Chinook or tropical weather as I call it. In the Summer we are usually between 70f and 90f. And most of the shops up here are recommending the lower viscosities even throughout the summer. Thats where I believe we are having some issues. And no doubt about I agree synthetic is a better lubricant, but within the same interval.
  11. Thanks. This is a pretty cool site. I couldn't agree with you more. For some reason, people and dealerships up here seem to be hung on lower viscosity oils and synthetic interval extensions. I allways tell my customers to use the recommended oil and that synthetic is just not economical. I explain to them that 5000km of carbon blowing past your piston rings is still 5000km of contamination, no matter what oil you are running. And when I see what the oil looks like on these trucks running synthetic at extended intervals, I just shake my head in disgust. We also get pretty hot in the summer time as well.
  12. Keith, that image is also in TSB 05-16-06. I live by that TSB up here. Out of curiousity, what is your opinion on viscosities in these engines. I personnally believe in 15W40 in the summer because I believe with the amount heat these engines create, you need all the protection against thermal breakdown you can get. We have bulk tanks for oil and we switch our diesel oil to 10W30 in the fall and 15W40 in the spring. We are smack dab in the centre of the oil patch and have alot of customers that haul alot of heavy crap. I also see tonnes of engine oil cooler failures that I believe are related to thermal breakdown and lack of maintenance. By the way, that TSB also displays that 15W40 is preferred for trailer towing.
  13. It's good to see that you are on this site too Alex.
  14. You've got that right Jim. Ilso don't have to worry about Oakville calling my dealer principal and having him threaten to take my password and inford ID away either.
  15. I have been running my own Ids system ever since the system has been released. I also have our dealership set on a wireless system. You cannot gor wrong with this investment. No waiting for a scan tool. You can toggle back and forth between IDS, OASIS, and online service information at the touch of your fingertips. It has kept me very productive in a shop with ten techs and only one IDS (not including mine) for the whole shop. IT is by far the best and most prctical diagnostic system I have ever seen Ford come out with. Just my two cents.
