You know, you are right about the cheap entertainment on these websites. I find that I start to steam up when customers of the high performance chop shops come in and actually try to pry me for informantion and ask me stupid things like: "What do I gotta do to cut that crap out of there and get some fuel mileage"? That question was one brought to me this last weak by a customer who just purchased a 6.4L from us. His last four trucks have all been chipped, piped, opened up and juiced up. I black flagged one of his trucks a year ago and he still hasn't learned. I just shake my head now and answer them all back with extremely sarcastic comments like: I guess you could wrap a chain around the exhaust and the other end to a tree and drive away. Anyway, you are right Jim. It is amusing cheap entertainment. Just not when it actually happens in your selling area. Because you know damn well the D.P. is going to say: Well you know he is a really good customer. Is he really? Oh and by the way, I keep following that thread to see what the idiot is going to do next. Can't wait to find out how much it eventually costs him. And don't go thinking I get extremely mad. It's more disgust than anything. My words just come out that way.

This is the only site I have any desire to participate in. It's sites like powerstroke.org that just turn me off. Idiots like these always refering to us professionals who work at "stealerships" and they )the idiots)don't even have the slightest amount of intelligence as to how to maintain their vehicles properly let alone drive them. "Oxygen Thiefs"! Fuck, I need another drink. My blood starts to boil when I talk to and/or about retards like this.

Kevin, I have had many Sicko engine failures and some that had knocks and melted pistons like the one you just had. I believe it is a detination knock from overfueling. Been down that path many times. That's why as a flatrate tech I believe in cutting out the political bullshit that you have to go through with prior approval and "I Condemn the Bitch as fast as I can". Or as Ford calls it: inspect and determine engine damage. Don't get me wrong, I don't go replacing parts just for the hell of it. "It's just knowing how to cut the time consuming politics as fast as you can", because the warranty Nazi's don't give a rats ass how much time you lose on a job. It all comes with time, patience, knowledge, experience and sometimes a few wobbly pops to make the financial hemroids feel just a little bit better.

I told ya: It takes an asshole to make a piece of shit! Give someone with a lack of inteligence, alot of money and they can be really dangerous.
-
Sonny, pull the oil filter out and look at the oil stand pipe. If it is melted, call hotline, they will tell you to order an engine. In OASIS there is an SSM About this. Enter the VIN and then click on engine and oil system concerns.

Metod #1 in our dealership and every other dealership I have worked for. I personally don't consider #2 acceptable. "Fixed Right The First Time" is what we should all live by. We are preached that throughout our whole Ford career. Why would we do it any other way?

Injector Installation In Chassis
DwayneGorniak replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I consider it very acceptable Keith. What I don't consider acceptable is the stupid ass fuel lines they are using. Why the hell couldn't they have designed these injectors with a different style friggin line like a banjo fitting or something else like that? And yeah I know there are all kinds of excuses for their reason of thinking: not enough space, location, sealing factors and whatever the hell else they can think of. But then again they will also come up with an excuse for shoe horning that big ass engine into that tight ass compartment and dressing it with a whole lot of crap as well. Is that acceptable? -
"If you see the guy in the next bay shortchanging a customer, remember it is YOUR customer he is shortchanging.... Only YOU can build YOUR rep.... but almost anyone in your shop can destroy it." Jim, I couldn't agree with you more. I pride myself on high quality repairs and having a large base of regular customers and fleets that keep coming back to me. For the right reasons. I am in a sense the Lone Diesel gynaecologist in our shop. I am now training a very bright young apprentice beside me to be the rookie diesel gynaecologist. I have been working with this young lad for over two years now and he is on the right track. He will be a great technician. However, once in a while there is a hack that will work on the other side of me and he has the title of Shop Foreman. "The guy in the next bay shortchanging a customer." Example: 04' F-150, (retail)wire harness under driver side of truck that is very poorly routed along the outside of the frame (because some jackass engineer thought it seemed like a good idea at the time) is hanging down with the wires ripped out of the hardshell connector and some damage to the connector. Now there are many economical ways to fix this with a high quality outcome. You can make a connector from left over harnesses that you have kicking around, you can make two or three connectors if you have to, or you can phone some auto wreckers and see if they have any totalled trucks kicking around that you can cut the connectors out of. Or you can do what this hack did: Order an $1800.00 body harness at the customers expense and cut the connector out that you need and charge the customer a crap load of labour to repair his truck and throw the rest of the harness under the work bench so that you have all kinds of connectors for the future. This was yesterday (Friday)by the way. This isn't the only time this hack has pulled this kind of "stupid stunt." I know our dealership gets a bad rap because of this crap because customers come right to me and tell me. However, I am in a nice postition because my customers tell me that they are happy that the hack is not a diesel tech and that I am. Therefore they keep comeing back because they don't have to worry about the hack working on their truck. I tell them all they can request for certain techs to work on their vehicles and that they can request that certain techs do not work on their vehicles. Which is now what happens. But I don't have time to do front end work or brake jobs or general rpairs. So alot of other good techs there are now being requested for work. hopefully someday this crap will catch up with the "hack". Any way Jim, my point is that you are right about the fact that this is what is wrong this trade. But it's not allways just young lads either. I strongly believe in lead by example, but not if you are piss poor example. In your case: keep up the good work and make them hacks change their ways! You have the power. May the force be with you.

HEE Hee. Dipping the pen company ink hugh? Can't say I havn't done it myself though.

Black grease on your Shop Foremans, or Service managers ear piece of their phones is a good one too. I also like to pull the bottom drawer out of the Service Mangers filing cabinet and open a couple cans of sardines and put them on the floor below the cabinet. It takes them forever to find the stench. It is alot of fun, as long as they have a good sense of humour.

Tony I have the exact same thing also and it was the wiring harness. Luckily it was a cargo van and I could get at all the body bolts easily. I removed the whole body and it was way nicer to do the harness. I even livt ambulance bdies off. My tools of preference would be five big black garbage bags full of acetylene and a really long wick for the a cab removal. Unfortunatley no one wants to let me try it.

Fuel additives For 6.4L's
DwayneGorniak replied to DwayneGorniak's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
Thanks, that's the kinda stuff I,ve been looking for. Cold hard facts. I've been after my parts manager for about two months now to find me a product sheet. He told me there was no information available on the product. -
Fuel additives For 6.4L's
DwayneGorniak replied to DwayneGorniak's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
I knew the reasons for the ULSD fuel and the DPF sytems. All I was getting at is that it would be nice if Ford would get their crap together and send out a bulletin of some sort o explain the uasages of the new product and also recomendations on treating these fuel systems. But instead they keep quiet and then just throw a product out there. But thanks for letting me pick at your brains. -
Fuel additives For 6.4L's
DwayneGorniak replied to DwayneGorniak's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
Well, I just got our first case of PM@@B fuel additive in and all it says on the bottle is: Ultra Low Suphur Diesel Complient. So does that mean that is only complient with ULSD in the older engines or the new ones as well? I tdoes not say anything about being 6.4L complient or to be used with DPF systems. In the 6.4L class our instructor told us that you can only use additives that say they are for the new DPF systems. So from what I am assuming, the new additive is not complient for the new trucks. Clear as mud to me! -
Fuel additives For 6.4L's
DwayneGorniak replied to DwayneGorniak's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
I should have elaborated a little better that the reason I am telling cutomers not to do anything yet, is because there is not enough information out there about the fuel and the product yet. I don't want to see them putting the old additives in the new trucks, which some customers have been wanting to do. -
Fuel additives For 6.4L's
DwayneGorniak replied to DwayneGorniak's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
PM22B is the canadian part number for the new Motorcraft additive. I just havn't seen any of it yet to be able to read the bottle and see what it is rcommended for. I also havn't seen any documentaion from Ford on what they are recommending. -
Fuel additives For 6.4L's
DwayneGorniak replied to DwayneGorniak's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
I advise all my customers running older diesels to use additives and I advise customers running the 6.4's that they only need to run good clean Ultra low sulphur diesel. I am still waiting to see some bulletins from Ford. And I am waiting to get some PM22B in stock, but our parts guys say it is on back order. Anyone know what the PM22B says it's actual application is for? -
I am getting mixed opinions from dealerships in our area. And I have confused customers. We have some telling customers that they need to run lubricity additives in the new 6.4L's and some dealerships saying that they don't need to run anything. But from what I have read in Powerstroke central, they are saying you don't need to run any additives in the new vehicles designed for ultra low sulfer diesel. The lubricity additives have already been added to the new fuel. I know that we have to run additives in the 2006 and older models to get that lubricity and punch back into the fuel. If you go into Powerstroke Central, on the main page there is a link at the bottom titled:Informatio On Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD). Click on that and on the left side in Frequently asked questions. The thirteenth question is: Will I need to put additives in my fuel tank to replace the lubricity provided by the higher suphur content? Heres the link: http://www.clean-diesel.org/faqs.html Anyone have any other facts on this?

I couldn't help it. As painstaking as it was I read that thread to the end and the jackass still doesn't have it figured out. But my Dad always had this wise saying that I use regularly eith some customers and was reminded of by this Tit: It takes and asshole to make a piece of shit!

4.5L Oil Coolers?
DwayneGorniak replied to Keith Browning's topic in 4.5L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I just had the Hutterites call me a little while ago about a 4X4 engagement concern after they serviced the t-case on their 04' superduty. They asked me what kinda oil to put into da transfer case and I told them ATF. He said, You mean no 80w90. I said no, no 80w90! ATF! He said Oh, maybe dats why da son of a bitch won't go into four wheal drive den hugh? UHHH, yeaahh! -
Check your MAF for being dirty. And I always look in the PCED manuals at reference values to find out what the MAF sensor should read with KOEO.
-
Is it an EEC Five MAF system or is it still the speed density system? I've seen dirty MAF sensors cause that.
-
Have you changed the lines from the high pressure rail to the injectors yet? I would bet money on those.
-
Only 500 km's (300Miles) on this one. The high pressure fuel rail to rocker bed seal on the driver head was leaking. The seal was in two pieces and was obviously damaged upon assembly. This is a leak that I can possibly see some mistaking for something else. Was puking oil down the back of the head and blowing back all over the tranny. If you look close at this top picture, you can see the seel has sperated and the inner ring is close to the nut. The shinyness in this second picture is my flashlight from behind the seal. This last photo is the bad seal on the left and the brand new one on the right.

Not only that Keith, the tops of long lead injectors are either blue or they Have "LL" stamped on the top of them.
