  1. I like it when you are told "Remove and discard" and when warranty asks for it back - you say you threw it out. They get upset /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
  2. Example: 6.0L head gaskets - Wash and Re-use! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif
  3. I'll lay claim to the Hindu on a chicken remark. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif "I live in my own little world, but it's ok - everyone knows me here." "Ahh, I see the fuck-up fairy has visited us once again!" "Did I just hear a toilet flush?" While pushing trucks inside: "POWERED BY YOU!" "I quit drinking, they invented a funnel."
  4. Dude! You said 3.0M! All the truck drivers around here don't know how to measure in meters! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
  5. I had a 2009 MKS for a no crank/no start about 3 weeks ago - manufacturer plated. FYI - Without brakelights, this car won't start. FYI - the brakelight switch interchanges with....every damn thing almost. Me and Shlep were on that thing like a hindu on a chicken when it came in, to see if it had the Direct Injection Gasoline engine...but alas, N/Aspirated 3.7L
  6. No doubt, my thoughts too!
  7. Was putting a parking aid module in a 06 SD today, and got to thinking to myself. If you have one of these trucks that's in a bad enough accident that it trips the inertia switch, should you put injectors in your estimate? Low fuel pressure killing injectors? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Discuss. Just a rambling semblance of a thought that entered my mind, likely heat induced. Just curious what others think.
  8. Not to Hijack - but how does everyone press these things back together? You have a shop gorilla that does it? Looking for ideas for my next one.
  9. Oh fuck, I saw that a while back...that's BAD. You'd think that the carport would withstand a little more than a trailer, the top part of that trailer should give before the friggin carport!
  10. Or as I've always said, (referencing myself) "Or as the ladies like to call me, 'hey you, behind the bushes!' " /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
  11. Keith, it was a magazine article regarding the deletion of the 6.0 EGR cooler. PM me your mailing address, I'll mail you the pages of the magazine, as I don't have a scanner. Don't let me get too far ahead of myself here, I'll have to find the magazine first.
  12. I'm not trying to steal any of Shlep's thunder - but they are broke at the red line in this picture: (that's an injector from a different customer's sicko - missing the nut off the through bolt) I'm kinda new at the 6.0 world - but THAT'S where they bust when there's no fuel pressure? The whole top is gone off the injector! He showed me a picture this morning at work. (we work in adjacent bays, and always look for good laughs first thing in the AM) I've seen several injector failures from no fuel pressure, but not like that. I was just curious.
  13. That's a REALLY good read Larry, but I think that it'd confuse them even more. You know what might work out guys? Everyone go here http://www.dieselpowermag.com/contactus/index.html and drop them a quick note how you read the letter by Aaron Robertson from Windsor Ontario with great interest, and thought they should be corrected on their EGR/VGT strategy. Letter: I read your article regarding the 6.0 pow4r stroke EGR cooler delete. You do realze the EGR is a failsafe for too much boose, which is one of the main causes of head gasket failure on the 6.0 So, an aftermarket turbo or wastegate would also be a reccomended upgrade. The other point i'd like to comment on is your statement that the EGR cooler causes the coolant to boil. Generally this is not the case. loss of cooling system pressure or introduction of air into the cooling system (generally once it passes the capacity of the pressure cap on the degas bottle) due to excessive cooling pressure because of too much boost, is what causes the egr cooler to fail. Readers that would like to increase their 6.0's reliability while keeping their truk emissions leaga should consider using an early build 03 to 04-1/4 egr cooler that uses a tube style element. editor's response: We disagree with your assessment of the EGR system accting as an over-boost fail safe (That's the job of the VGT), we do like your suggestion of using the early model 6.0 EGR cooler. My thoughts: A number of things bother me about this letter, mainly the fact that it's been heavily edited, including my self-identificaiton as a powerstroke tech., as well as some other information that I included to make myself not look as stupid as the above letter does.
  14. Keith that was the first thing that popped into my mind when I was looking through my 6.0 notes. I was hoping there was a piece of PC/ED manual I could quote or something, because I have a feeling that if I send that to these guys they will just look at it like "Whaaaaaa?"
  15. This is where I was basing my statement, the teacher I had (We likely had the same one, as I see you're from Toronto) told us exactly the same thing, and it was one of the class scenarios, if I recall rightly.
  16. If memory serves me rightly, this is the clown from the powerstroke forum that took all that stuff off his truck, smashed all the insides out, and put it back on. The truck then went into regen, and stayed there. After a programmer came out to remove the regen from the PCM strategy, he linked this video. I recall pricing the parts out for him and laughing in his face. I posted on here about it, too. My bad - AlexBruene started this one: http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8392&page=0&fpart=1
  17. So I'm at the roach coach this morning, getting my coffee, and Shlep comes up to me and says "You're a see-lebrity!" - he hands me a copy of June's Diesel Power magazine, where I spouted in a letter about their EGR cooler delete bit. They published my letter, in which I stated the EGR valve is an integral part of the fail-safe system in the air intake to help bleed boost if necessary. Editor of the magazine says "No way" and says that's the VGT's job. I am unable to find documented anywhere the co-relation of the EGR and VGT systems. I would like to offer a rebuttal, but I'm having a hard time explaining how they are tied together. I know how it works in my head, and I know how to diagnose it on a car, but I'm having a hard time explaining how they are tied together - and I don't like being told I'm wrong in front of millions of readers.
  18. I priced one out retail, just for a giggle awhile back, while I was also pricing out a retail DPF, DOC, and CAT, and Pipe for an 08 SD. They were around $15,000 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif (the cat, DPF, and tailpipe was around 9 grand, also for those interested.)
  19. My favorite is the guy that wanders into the shop with a part in his hand. Once at the small garage I used to work at, this guy came in with the little round plug that you find in older transmissions for the first service, the line plug that goes in the dipstick hole? I see him wander in, and cut into his path while he's walking up to the boss. I say "Whatcha got there?" He replies: "I was doing a trans filter and found this in the pan?" My reply: "Where's the other one?" he goes - "there was only one?" I get this real worried look on my face and go "Oh man, that's not good!" and walk away. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
  20. They speak! Quote: Ok first off take a step back and breath. I have been doing this job for a bit over 14 years, and what that has taught me foremost is you will never make ever customer happy. There are assholes everywhere and this just happens to be one of them. Is he a fucktard....yes. Should he own his truck....no. Should his father worn a condom....yes. Listen you weren't far off in what you said, however as a staff member you are held to different standard and can't just tell some douche bag user to f... himself. There has to tact in you vernacular. As staff we are all held to a higher standard and to help the members. I get paid the same way do and have to work on the same p.o.s. trucks and vans so I see where your coming from and agree ripping people off is never cool, but like indy shops, there are snakes in the grass at dealers too. I know, I replaced one. As for indy shops calling me...........that doesn't happen. They know better. They have all already been informed tech questions are not free. My reply: Quote: In my own defense, I never told the guy to go fuck himself. I thought I did a fairly good job at getting my point across without specifically calling the guy a moron. I guess nobody on this forum knows me in person, but this was probably the most tactful I've been able to reply to something that's made me that hot in a long time. You shoulda been the fly on my toolbox today when I did my first booster hose recall on a 4x4 F-series. And to be honest, reading it back over again, I think that I did a fairly good job of NOT blowing up at this guy. No name calling, or swearing in my post. Like a number of people have said - after the independant shop or customer has squandered thousands of dollars of the customer's money and wasted time and parts - THEN they send it to the 'stealer' to get the truck diagnosed. "Oh, it needs an ICP sensor" or "Oh, it needs a .5 reflash." I personally treat those with the same respect they dish out. If you call me an asshole, or a thief, or a moron? You better have either the evidence to back it up, or the brass to get back the same attitude that you've given me. Not trying to make any enemies here, I like the staff members here, but sometimes, you just get pushed, and pushed, and pushed, and finally, there's a snap. A buddy of mine has all the advisors 'Screen' his calls - he is the only diesel guy at their shop, and has to deal with all the shit calls all the time. Regardless of weather or not tech calls are not free, people still try. Why can't we just all get along?
  21. I'd probly just flip the TV on, and sit there in the dark /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif But I do agree with you. Regardless though, the tsb does say to replace the pump, so that's what we've been doing.
  22. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rofl.gif Good one /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
