  1. Ya i know about the TSB. So the VC-12 is for the 6.7L and used in the Orange coolant. My fellow tech made it sound like we should be using VC-12 in everything. Thanks guys, all straightened out now.
  2. Have any of you heard about a corrosion inhibitor additive used for the 6.0L, 6.4L cooling system to prevent front cover cavitation? My neighboring tech came back from 6.7L training and there they learned of a VC-12 for that purpose but our parts department has been unable to find it as of yet.
  3. I had a 6.0 front cover out of the box that had grooves from the 9 olock position to the 12. Almost like it wasn't machined deep enough. The water pump fit in fine but i refused to use it, and the next replacement i got was good.
  4. Hotline told me about teeth missing on crank/camshaft gears but no teeth were found damaged or missing. as for the HPFP geartrain not being right i'll look around and see if i can find anything. I changed the complete rocker arm assemblies including mounting bar due to the picots being partially seized as well.
  5. Ive got a 6.4L with a ticking noise you can hear through the wheelwells and is most prominant under the vehicle at the rear of the engine/bell housing area. vehicle ran fine besides an injector miss on #2 which i replaced the injector, manual compression all ok. Now attempt 1 led me to find a bent/broken #8 intake pushrod, a mushroomed intake valve and piston to valve contact on cylinder #8. Piston potrusion was ok so i installed a piston, head, 2 lifters, all rocker arms, pushrods, front cover and water pump (cavitated). Retested... noise was still there. Next try had be replace the short block, so replaced that and noise is once again still present. It sounds like it is coming from the middle of the engine at the rear and gets louder as it warms up. When you rev it up it increases as well, sounding like a ratchet sound. Injector cancelling makes no difference, and the FSE is leaning me towards it being normal as per the noise TSB. But i believe it to be extreme (can hear it with windows rolled up in the cab) and haven't heard any other truck make this noise, and if it was that noise it should have changed somewhat with the new short block installed you would think. Anyway have you run across high pressure pumps making noise? All thats left is the RH head and high pressure pump. And when the customer comes back i will definately be pulling the trans to make sure thats not it.
  6. Have had one in customer filled with gasoline somewhere, when it got to me it only had 1/4 of a tank left and vehicle had stalled and would not start for customer. Once it was at the dealership i drove it in, had an injector that was misfiring. Replaced the injector flushed the lines, replaced fuel filters, dumped a bottle of conditioner in the secondary filter housing and another in the tank, started it up, it ran fine roadtest was fine and haven't seen it back since. I prefer to try the flush and fill with diesel method, if a problem persist then go for the more expensive alternative. and so far the expensive alternative hasn't been needed... but reading what happens to the pumps i'll be sure to keep an eye out.
  7. Ive had success with the RADKIT plus without tilting the rad. Until it stops working i'm going with it. Much easier than removing a bumper and any accesories the lovely rail trucks would have on them.
