  1. Is that a heli-coil or is it a "save-a-thread" sleeve that is threaded on both sides? Those things are brutal, especially when guys do the on vehicle repair. It is a shame when someone will pay someone else to wreck their engine.
  2. Why does everything have to be so confrontational when dealing with Ford? Are we not part of One Ford? It is Friday and I am tired.
  3. Anyone have a local supplier for DEF test strips? Acustrip makes them for Rotunda, I just don't want to wait for a week. I called a local diesel specialty shop whose motto is "I am Diesel", and they didn't even know what I was talking about. Who needs DEF when you can sell a delete (my favorite term) kit.
  4. Oddly enough just yesterday I saw an F550 dumptruck puff out a cloud of white smoke on accell, then stop. I was behind him and drove through the cloud, it didn't really smell like fuel or coolant, I just expected it was in regen. It was a City Works truck, so I am sure it never gets out of town. I have driven them and seen them puff smoke in a similar fashion, usually in winter after driving through town for a while, then pulling away from a stop. If they are running ok, not consuming fluids, and no warning lights on, I advise people that it is normal, and advise them to get out on the highway once in a while to complete a good regen.
  5. Why couldn't they fix it with a PCM re-flash, seems to fix everything else.
  6. Or out and out "can you fix my car for me because I don't know how." How the hell are you supposed to learn anything if you don't even want to try. I am going to stop now before I get too wound up.
  7. Why go halfway, lets bring back lifetime service warranty!
  8. Went for a ride last night with some guys from work on my vintage 1978 Honda 550 four. When we stop people walk right by the Harleys and Can Am and go straight to my old bike to ask about it. Makes the other guys cranky. The bike has been in my family for 31 years.
  9. Watch out for rusted fuel lines that suck air but won't leak fuel, believe it or not.
  10. I have also seen loose plugs in the 3v engines, always after someone's buddy changed them because I dare to expect to be paid to work. I find even if they are just a little loose they can cause a misfire at high load/rpm. If I have broken porcelean in the spark plug I use a tool that I made up to chip some of it out before pushing it down and cutting threads. This prevents the electrode from breaking off.
  11. Thanks, I feel better now. So who gets paid diag?
  12. Was that an SBDS cart in the second picture? Henry called, he wants it back for his museum.
  13. MMMMMM, Aerostars. I still have the nomex sleeves I would wear when working under the hood (?) of those things.
  14. Soon to be seen in the back window of a Nissan truck, "Powered by
  15. Our local power company used to get F350's with 351 efi and c6, load the hell out of them, and not only would they not stop, but they would drive them into the ditch to do some work and they could not climb back out. AAAH, the good old days.
  16. We have pumped so many ASSET kids through here it is sickening. They get their papers and then they are gone, which deosn't necessarily break my heart. They usually have rock star syndrome by the time they are half way through. I just wish I could find an old F350 with a 400 in it that they could lie under for a few hours rolling in new bearings and a rear main seal. Guaranteed sick call the next day.
  17. I found one in my Kingomatic catalogue, part number 56444h.... if you have kingo in the States.
  18. Kinda like those old GMC FWD motorhomes, chain up the front tires and then go up the mountain in reverse.

What was the cost cap tool's decision?
  20. I know you know this, but check the exhaust valves for cracking. The engine we did with a bent rod ended up being a long block because of that, and it had no miles on it. Our rod was also bent sideways, cocked the piston in the bore and scuffed it up.
  21. Go to 'run' and enter clearvcmutil. A recovery screen shold open. Make sure your vcm is powered externally, and not connected to a vehicle. Press enter to start the process, there is no start button on the screen. If it is successful you will have to re-load the latest code in your vcm when you start your next session. The hotline told me about this utility a long time ago, I guess it was not really advertised. I have used it fairly recently, it works sometimes, but if she is baked, she's baked.
  22. Did you run the VCM recovery utility in IDS? Doesn't usually work, but worth a try, especially if your lights are flashing.
  23. Must be one of those environmental things. We get F550 trucks that work on power dam construction that literally get dragged into the worksite with Cats, and when they drive them back to civilization it is on the floor against the speed limiter (lots of overspeed codes stored)and we are amazed that the trannies are the only thing that doesn't blow up.
