This topic came up today during a discussion with our manager. He acted like he was telling us(the 2 certified guys) something we didn't already know. well no shit, if we have one non-cert that is doing warranty work then how else is the claim getting paid? Thank goodness it's not entered that way in our system, my manager is definitely stupid enough to give me a comeback that I never touched. I've obviously had my tech number used in many warranty claims on vehicles I've never layed eyes on. Even though I have no say in this or nothing to do with it somehow I think it's going to involve me if it ever comes down to the wire

I love it when I find new tools.........
Matt Saunoras replied to lmorris's topic in The Water Cooler
One time when I worked for lincoln I came across our tranny tech a few miles away who appeared to be hiking back to the shop. I stopped and asked him if he needed a ride, he replied. "No thanks, I lost a socket and heard it fall out on the road here" Actually I got a pair of my pliers back about 10 months after I lost them, they returned under the hood of the car I originally left them in. They were a little rusty One of the funniest things I've ever seen was a guy driving a car off the alignment rack with a head still attached. he made it all the way out of the parking lot onto the highway before it came off -

My personal best is a snap-on 8mm 1/4'" drive swivel socket I acquired under the intake of a 6.4 I think I've given more than I've recieved, though -
I was in the 2nd 6.7 class run in the area. We didn't even do a post test. By the time I actually got to work on one I had to go study the coffee table book to refresh my memory

oil leak at orange turbo drain tube
Matt Saunoras replied to dave442's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I do them cab on without removing the turbos. Done 3 now all have been fine. I was actually hesitant to post this due to the risk of sounding like a hack I take everything off but the uppipe bolts and the hot side cac. Take the downpipe loose, crossover tube, oil fill/ccv, turbo feed lines and the pedestal bolts all out. Either attach an engine crane or get a long prybar and pry that low pressure turbo up as high as it'll go. Obviously don't pry on the fuel line that lays on the intake. Once you get the high turbo up off of the dowels you'll have a lot of wiggle room If you can get the old one out the new one will go in. To do that I have a 1" paint scraper with a 45 degree bend in it. I get the tube started up in the turbo far enough to slide that scraper directly under it. Then I set the weight of the turbos down and it forces the tube up into the low turbo. Pry the turbo up slightly again, remove the scraper and gently set it down Actually the guy I work with does turbos cab on with torch in hand. I've never had the opportunity to try it though Edit- the first drain tube I did was my own damn fault, the other 2 were someone elses mistake. You'll only do it once. -
Oasis symptom coding
Matt Saunoras replied to Brad Clayton's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
yeah I don't get too specific with the coding. I missed a throttle body TSB hotline made apparent after I wasted my time diagnosing and submitting a request -
Well I've cooled off, I should be appreciative that no one said anything about the damage. It could have easily been passed off to me

yikes. I can't stand work being so cut and dry. I like to have a little fun and probably socialize a little more than I should. Maybe I'll grow out of it.

metal in the fuel
Matt Saunoras replied to Matt Saunoras's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Oh absolutely I will. I always make sure my warranty right-ups are extremely well documented. Thank for your advice -
metal in the fuel
Matt Saunoras replied to Matt Saunoras's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
obviously it does concern me or I wouldn't have made a post What I meant was I shouldn't be worried about bouncing a claim if there is legitimately no reason to believe water was in this system -
did you confirm this actually happened?

First thing this morning my meathead toolbag fucking SM bursts through the door in a rage of fury. You can tell he's jacked, for what particular reason we'll never know. I've been there for a half hour already unbeknownst to him and he says to me with an attitude, are you going to do anything today? I'm red hot now. He throws me some keys to go jockey some drop-off cars around. Not only is that not my fucking job but I'm getting attitude with it So what did i do? clipped another fucking car not paying attention. Service dept lost what I would have made them in a day.

metal in the fuel
Matt Saunoras replied to Matt Saunoras's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
No rust Keith, no corrosion in the secondary housing, nothing in the fuel lines. The high pump is out and I'm not seeing anything obvious under the side cover. Just naturally cautious I guess. I read myself into worrying about shit that shouldn't even concern me -
I have my first 6.4 with metal in the fuel and I need some advice on the situation. With the way the whole warranty process has been going lately I'm deathly scared of making a mistake. From what I've read there have been quite a few denied claims and I don't want to be one of them I've looked at the water in fuel job aid and to be honest I'm not seeing any signs of rust or corrosion anywhere. Pulled the ITP cover and not one spec of rust though the pump is obviously failed and full of metal. It appears to me that this is a warrantable repair. I suspect the low pressure pump failure is what lead to the hpfp failure. When the truck came it had no low fuel pressure and the low pump was open internally. So I go through prior approval for a fuel system and it's okay'd no fuss at all. From what I've read isn't it pretty standard for an FSE to come out and take a fuel sample? Prior approval shows no interest in obtaining a fuel sample I guess I'll have to call hotline tomorrow. What's the standard procedure with you guys when you find metal in the fuel?

fmc was all messed up for us today.

this fucking truck sent me back to school. I have metal in the fuel. put #7 in it, it's fine for about 5 seconds of cranking. then bam it starts cranking like shit again trying to hydrolock. WTF!? pull the right bank of glowplugs out, no misting. start running compression incase a piston is sideways or missing, compression is all even, fuck, pull the left bank glowplugs AGAIN. crank, fuel shooting out of #2 hole. go to hell 6.4, pull the line for debris and sure enough. barely discernible, but it's there somehow I missed metal in my debris test on friday and #2 definitely wasn't misting got prior approval for a fuel system but I still haven't opened the pump yet. there's not a spec of anything in the secondary housing, it's the cleanest one I've seen yet

Looking For A Used Fuel Pressure Guage Kit
Matt Saunoras replied to Mbl35's topic in Buy, Sell or Trade
ford has a shorter version of that tool that does not work with the rail still in place(ours resides in my toolbox). Unless you're fortunate enough to have the tube come out with the plug stuck too it then the rail needs to come off in that pic it appears the tool is longer than the ford version, perhaps long enough to reach down past the rail? -

thanks for the link bruce. I'm as much of a tool junky as anyone stumbled across this https://international.spx.com/en-US/Pages/ItemDetail.aspx?itemID=22670&catID=117883 wonder if it would work for pulling 6.0 standpipes without removing the rail -
Self Inflicted Aggravation
Matt Saunoras replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I bolted a left hand valve cover down today with the takeout for the glowplug harness neatly tucked under it. I spent 20 minutes looking for this damn connector. the way the harness is clipped in the front you couldn't see the wire running under it -
#7 glow plug hole is a fuel geyser

EGR and Fan Clutch Operation
Matt Saunoras replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
none that I can find either A guy I know runs his 03 with the valve unplugged. I'll have to ask him about it I haven't heard the fan run on my truck yet -
is this just a canada thing? edit wow I definitely didn't read the thread title it's been a long day

did an STC in an 06 to get it running, tomorrow it's getting 3 injectors and dummy plugs. a 6.4 that I'm suspecting needs a high pressure pump, possibly fuel system if it's scattered. I can't remember the last time I had to do 2 no start trucks at once, our other guy is just as backed up
