  1. oh yeah, and incase anyone is wondering it requires a second subcription to the program the parts dept uses. It would cost $95 a month to have the service dept use this program thanks but no thanks. if it was $50 we could justify it. not for nearly 100 though
  2. You wanna mess with management answer to everyones name but your own, it definitely throws them way off. I'm always there when know one's looking for me
  3. EW! don't mention lincoln air suspensions. I breathed a sign of relief when I learned my last bag job was a 1996 MY towncar. I thought to myself...... surely that has an inflation procedure through the OBDII connection WRONG! How surprised do you think I was to find out via wsm that the old OBDI connector is now used strictly for air suspension diagnostics and i would have to pull out ss2 and try to get that thing to work. Ours has more tape on it than a hockey stick. Somehow I managed to trick NGS into thinking it was a 95 towncar and found the procedure that way. Don't even ask me how I got it to work, it falls under the blind squirrel finding a nut category.
  4. jim beam red stag and wild turkey 101 is the only liquor i have on hand I don't drink whiskey that much, maybe once a month i'll do a couple shots or mix some red stag with coke. I mostly drink miller lite and labatt's haven't smoked in 6 months, drink coffee every morning
  5. I would be much more tolerable of my shop if I could make an honest hourly rate. I don't work well as a flat rate guy, I'm too meticulous and too cautious of my work, it may be due to the fact I'm not entirely experienced but I think it's mostly just the way I am. I do understand that diesel jobs need done as quickly as possible though, I'm usually doing 10hr days when I'm on a truck I would love to be in a shop small enough for me to be the only diesel guy but big enough for steady work
  6. yeah it's getting a clutch and up-pipes too. I had a ebpv seal kit laying around i'm going to put in for the guy also. This guy is a good customer but he got a pan from advance auto that had a terrible fit around the front cover..... so once i found that out it was obviously too late. spent an hour re-scraping the tacked up rtv back off the block/covers and chasing the bolt holes I still can't believe that cab and how fast the rest comes apart, the 7.3 is so simplistic compared to 6.0/6.4s.
  7. I started out at the sister lincoln store as an entry level out of asset. Did too damn good of a job, showed too much promise and was too low on the pole to call any shots. This shop was about to lose it's ability to sell diesel trucks so rather than hire for the position they moved me out and got me diesel certified. This place has never seen trucks like it is now. It definitely wasn't designed with that in mind
  8. I'm 6'1" and believe me i never applied for this job, kinda got forced into it Actually there's a lower level right below where that truck sits. They detail cars downstairs and the owner stores all his toys down there. When I lifted the bed up mud water(rain yesterday) ran out on the floor right through a crack and dripped all over the owners cars. One day you'll read about Star Lake Ford collapsing, pieces of the ceiling are laying on the floor down there
  9. our internet has been on and off(mostly off) for the last few days so our crack service team is barely surviving let alone getting us fixed up with this program. maybe next week
  10. 7.3L MT with a PTO. I think that justifies pulling the cab to do an oil pan/reseal by the way i poked a hole in the ceiling with the bed
  11. How is the rest of the truck? I'd look it over good first, brakes, balljoints, steering, etc ....and do you have anywhere to store it while you fix it up? will the shop let you fix it there? I would do it if my GM would let me work on it there
  12. Anyone looking up their parts in the wsm now? I'm going to have the service manager call the number tomorrow to see if we can get signed up to use it. I can see where it might occasionally be beneficial, we only have one parts guy and he's frequently tied up on the phone or looking something up for someone else. Does anyone know if it costs anything to use this service?
  13. what is this monkey house you guys speak of? thedieselstop? i spend a little bit of time over at powerstroke.org but like any other public forum you can't hold those guys accountable for accurate information
  14. read a few posts on FMC saying a hyper extended bypass thermostat could cause that code possible this calibration will quickly unmask previously unseen problems? i guess that's what it's supposed to do
  15. I'm in the same boat, can't decide if anywhere could be any better or if all shops are like the one I'm in. I really need to get into an diesel apprenticeship somewhere and stop trying to handle every single kind of problem that could roll in through the door So tired of the store I'm at, so tired of the GMs constant attitude, acting like I'm not earning my paycheck and trying to treat me like an hourly guy. I work in a shithole that's not even close to being equipped to handle trucks and I get questioned about productivity by the higher ups. I'm not an experienced diesel tech and I don't get paid like one......so we shouldn't have a problem What's good is we're not on speaking terms right now. It's nice not having fake friendly chit-chat with an asshole GM
  16. i don't have the coffee table book in front of me but they should be the same process. I just went through the same thing today
  17. I'm a history/discovery/animal planet buff. I don't watch a lot of the reality shows but 2 of my favorites are Man vs Wild and River Monsters. As for documentary types I watch the universe and planet earth whenever they're on. I like all those crime solving forensic shows too. I do sitcom reruns too. Seinfeld and married with children are 2 shows I could never see enough of
  18. 2 studs sticking out and one on each head was broke off below flush. I still can't comprehend how you would do this in the vehicle pulled them out with the mig.
  19. no mention of how hot gabrielle miller is? man, must just be me.
  20. Yeah check out the rh up-pipe thread in the 6.4 section. Loosen the cac tubes and battery cables and unbolt all the cab bolts but the rear 2. Just raise it 3-4" off the front mounts and you'll have plenty of room to snake that downpipe out. I also unbolted the trans cooler lines to clear the rear flange. You might not have to do this though Doesn't matter anyways. This truck is a pile, I absolutely cannot get the rh manifold out, there is so much salt/sand and corrosion built up what I found weren't bolt heads but bolt nubs. Cab is up all the way now, heads are coming off tomorrow. Put a hotline in just to cover my ass. They say they're seeing a lot of trucks that need the heads removed and even a few that need the entire head replaced.
  21. who would have ever thought that thing would come out of there? oh yeah, and my manifolds/upppipe 6.4.........also needs a rad and upper hose C/P. filled the degas up on wed when i did the reprogram. today it's down in the bottom of the bottle and the tensioner is kinda going sideways
  22. At this time of night i figure there's a least one varmint making its rounds in my stall......maybe feeding off crumbs on top my toolbox no cars, no carryovers, aint that nice. we'll see if my manifolds/uppipe 6.4 shows up tomorrow
  23. Ahhh the zoodad mod. If I wanted extra snow in my air filter I would have bought a 6.4
  24. I keep reading on another forum that guys modifying their 6.0s are putting 6.4 banjo bolts in place of their stock 6.0 bolts. We all know the the stock bolt has a check valve in it that is supposed to maintain a constant fuel pressure in the head, meanwhile the 6.4 bolt serves a completely different purpose. They claim the 6.4 bolt(being completely open inside) is less restrictive under WOT situations. I don't drive or work on race trucks so I would never consider doing this but can anyone think of potential problems that could arise? Surely that check valve was deemed necessary, if they could have gotten away without using it I would think they would have opted for a cheaper solution I know we don't talk performance on this site but there are more intelligent minds here than over there. Somewhere someone said this was a good idea but I haven't seen any testing to prove it factual anyone care?
