  1. http://www.otctools.com/products/ford_6.0l%96diesel_ipr_Controller I'm not sure if this is a new tool or not. I can't really find any info on it regarding price or availability. might be nice to have if you do any side work away from the dealership.
  2. yeah my 06 was out of powertrain recently, i bet that's why it was on the lot i've only seen one 6.0 with ESP come through. needed one damn injector on #4, wouldn't approve it because of no maintenance records. i've never had any problems with prior approval while under powertrain though
  3. mid 06 engines the hold down changed. i never paid attention to the physical differences other than the T45 bolt. i believe i read they are in a slightly different location on the head also i think with new commonized heads from ford you would have to also get new injector hold downs
  4. i've been running cetane boost with good results but i'm going to switch to stanadyne here pretty soon
  5. yeah i saw bullet proof has there own external cooler kit too
  6. I ran a few out with a gun before, no difference really. i was using my IR2115 though and that thing is a beast. it snaps them instantly it'd be nice to have a little 1/4" impact. torque would be low enough it should vibrate them a little all while fitting under the cowl to get a straight shot word on the street is the hotter the engine the easier they come out with a gun
  7. i was just thinking about this again today so i had to go look through some previous threads. i haven't done a 3v tuneup in a few months and i had an 05 expedition grace my presence today with a #4 misfire. 120k on the clock, never had plugs changed. I charge 4 hours labor, regardless of how many plugs break. this particular vehicle broke 1,2,4,7,8. i've used the lisle tool with a 100% sucess rate so far. infact i'm on my second tool(ordering my 3rd here shortly). the bit tends to get worn out after 30 or so extractions. It's funny, I still get stressed out with every one. I've had a few that were extremely difficult to remove and after a few failed attempts to grab i tend to get sweaty and red faced. then there's always the thought, lingering in the back of my head, of those horror stories of guys breaking off the lisle tool in the head. Only one time did i have all the plugs come out in one piece. it was an 08 F-150 and for some reason i was thinking all 08s had a new design plug. well this was an early 08 and I only quoted my normal 8cyl tune-up labor. weird how it worked out
  8. i know the feeling. i'm the only ford dealer on my guys route too. he already had one for me and i knew he wasn't going to sell it to anyone else
  9. yeah that's what i put the last one together with. the tool failed on me about half way thru and i was suprised how easy it went together with a little light hammmering
  10. what's your guys success rate with the tool used to joint the 2 turbos together. i don't know what exactly happened but i bent the shit out of it when i did my last turbo
  11. that's like the ICP sensor socket it's listed for 02 and 03 6.0s. makes you wonder who's in charge of writing up descriptions http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?...amp;dir=catalog I did buy the turbo inlet pipe socket. we'll see how it works
  12. i have the shops IPR socket in my box though i may buy the snap-on one just to have my own
  13. saw my first one yesterday, i didn't work on the truck but not only did the tool end up ruined but the lower half of the valve is currently stuck in the elbow.
  14. compared to a lot of people i'm still pretty new to this business but i can't stress this enough. confidence is good but it doesn't mean anything if you don't fix the vehicle right.
  15. That's exactly why I asked. thanks for your input everyone I actually did locate all the T65P/T66P tools required as per workshop manual but I might make a liar out of myself, this sounded like a good idea at first but now I'm not sure. This truck has some rust, not a lot but enough that it's possible that the sector shaft is the culprit. I'll price out a shaft tomorrow New box is ~$260. seal kit is a gamble but it's only ~$40
  16. This is on my own personal vehicle so if i can locate the rest of the necessary tools I'm going to attempt it. I have a leak coming out of the bottom sector shaft seal. There's no play in the box, it just has a slight leak I was wondering if anyone has had any success replacing leaking seals? If it's not worth doing i won't waste my time. The funny thing is I found the worm bearing locknut tool in the basement today by accident, that's what started this idea, i just assumed we didn't have the tools and i certainly wasn't going to pay for them on my own dime. Thanks guys
  17. nope, I did gaskets and studs c/p on an 07 F-350 and i put a ton of miles on it when i was done. Cust had left it cranked all the way up regardless of what he was towing. Didn't notice any driveability concerns but that was the best running 6.0 I've ever felt. i think i remember reading something about those chips getting water in the connectors causing some problems
  18. man i hate those edge/mkx fittings. i may try my next phaser job in the vehicle just to avoid those lines. last one i had the 19mm fitting loose but i couldn't get it started again without crossthreading it. the front one needs be removed to get the side cover off too
  19. I'm not finding metal in any debris checks i've done so far(which isn't that many). pumps are fixing them though so those valves are sticking for a reason what are you guys talking about with the fitting threads? i take it when you unscrew them it shears some slivers off and it's mistaken for debri? i haven't heard that one yet
  20. hey, what a coincidence, that's what my parts guy quoted me. really i'd like to get one over on him. i buy a lot of stuff off him and he still won't cut me a deal for anything less than 10% over.
  21. I'm doing everything at once. EGR cooler bypass, oil cooler, STC fitting, dummy plugs + any gasket that can be replaced. the truck has already had a chra done under warr so i'm not gonna open the turbo up yet. that reminds me. anyone have an extra oil cooler kit 3C3Z-6A642-CA that they'd unload for cheap? it's the only thing i haven't bought yet thanks guys
  22. Yeah I've never had the turbos off with the cab on yet. Been close though, the one time I put on the low pressure oil drain in wrong comes to mind
  23. Is there a mileage when you guys start to see this failure more often? My 06 has 52k. I have the solid fitting kit ready to go in but I'm worried I might not get to it for a few months
