  1. The escape recall tape looks like it goes on the end of a hockey stick
  2. What did it climb to? Voltage set point? Mine idles 14.0v all day with the 140amp 6.0 alt
  3. Fuck after being off for basically a week I'm getting beat up by a couple rowdy 6.0s. No more vacations if I have to come back feeling like I'm out of shape
  4. As much as I would love to leave Ford I can't convince myself it would be any better anywhere else. I do some side work for a towing company but I spend so much time at the dealership it's hard to find time anymore. Yeah side pay is nice but I hate running around to 2 places and hoping I have the tools I need.
  5. to do the 3rd pull on a 6.0 or the 2nd pull on a 6.4 I would never trust anything that ratchets.
  6. What kind of voltage is it putting out at idle? Edi t- Damn it now I want a 6.4 alt.
  7. every time I've snapped off those little EGR up-pipe bolts I've had to build the stud up and heat the manifold a dull red before I could extract them. Anymore I just heat them prior to breaking them off. A #2 brazing tip works okay for getting down in there
  8. I believe I did one plenum chamber about a year ago. I don't recall much about it but I do know that it was relatively easy to get the dash out and replace the chamber.
  9. Being that 90% of the bolts I extract are M8 x 1.25 I was thinking of investing in a time-sert kit for that size (and possibly M6x1.0 also) Anyone have any luck with time-serts or is everyone just using the cheaper heli-coils?
  10. Nope, got it. First try this morning. Switched my wire over from .023" to the more standard .030". Much better penetration on the stud with the 220v I run my machine on. The guy already has all the new studs and manifolds on. All started perfect.
  11. Damn it. Got 5 more out leaving one remaining and I cannot for the life of me get it out with the welder. I've never been beaten with this method but I think that day is over, it got me. My vacation is cut a day short too, there's too much work piled up outside. Not like I actually had a chance to relax anyways.
  12. Any chance it could be a high pressure pump starting to come apart internally. Injectors don't like metal in the oil. It wouldn't directly explain why only one bank is affected but its a thought
  13. Since we're talking about exhaust bolts try and guess where I was for the last 3 hours? Being off for a few days is basically not happening. Today one of our guys got into a big mess with a v10 and some exhaust manifolds. 11 broken studs, 4 are so far below flush (2-3 threads below) I'm having a hell of a time getting wire to stick to them. Got 5 out before I was too tired to focus any longer. We have one of those pro-maxx 2 valve drill guides. I told him he can either try that or leave them for me to attempt again tomorrow night.
  14. Since this post I've been told there are several packages that will equip a 6.0 truck with a 140 amp alt from the factory. The main notable one being the snow plow package.
  15. We see the core support corners like that all the time but obviously not visible from the outside.
  16. The only one I replaced had actual shards of metal stuck in it. All the others seemed to clean out okay. I suppose if you can see metal getting into the cold side duct it's time to replace it.
  17. So how about work calls me at 10 this morning. 2 trucks supposedly coming in. Hopefully I can hold them off til later in the week.
  18. yes many cab and chassis turbo failures. Be sure to check the turbine for blades missing and retrieve them from the exhaust. Also bathing the intercooler is recommended
  19. As many times as I've used the online PC/ED I never once noticed the interactive diagnostics main page. Interesting how the brain chooses what it wants to see. Very nice write-up by the way. I'll have to give that a shot sometime.
  20. Nothing in either one of my bays. Spent 20 hours at work this weekend finishing up the last 6.4 short block (flagged 18 on my ticket today). So all I did all day was cleaned up, dropped 3 core engines in their dunage and boxed up a few turbos, injectors etc. Didn't touch anything other than test driving the 6.4 Now I'm off for the rest of the week. I promised I wouldn't leave until I was caught up. I thanked diesel Jesus the trucks stayed away today.
  21. I've been using the permatex for other stuff and I ordered a new 30 mL bottle of 620 for the cups. Same as you guys, can't go wrong with what works
  22. Permatex emailed me back and said their high temp sleeve retainer would be fine for 6.0L injector cups and they also agree that Loctite 262 is not the correct compound for that application. Loctite 620 is an industrial grade compound and not readily available in the automotive world. I think the permatex would be a quick and good alternative (our NAPA had it in stock)
  23. Well I can't speak for who remans 6.0 turbos but I'm sure it's not Garrett themselves. There are number of aftermarket seal kits out there and any one of them could give questionable reliability. Actually I have a rotating assembly out of a reman center housing I should check it to see if it looks like it has Garrett bearings. Also you can buy new (not remanufactured, no core) turbos from Garrett for around the same price as a Ford reman. I know if I needed one I wouldn't be using a Ford unit when an OEM is available for the same price.
  24. Man did that complete fight me today while trying to drop it in. It was just being a pain. On a related note my area looks like a explosion at the 6.4 factory.
