  1. Anyone have the international part number for 6.0 rockers? I need a couple sets and I can't get ford ones until Tuesday at the soonest.
  2. Well it's official. I am 2 weeks backed up on diesel work. If you would have told me this would happen when we moved into the new building I never would have believed you. The shop is starting to seem awfully small.
  3. The #8 cylinder wall is wiped in this 6.4. Not a lick of crosshatching left anywhere. Measured the top diameter at no lie 3.906" The spec is 3.866 - 3.867" The ridge in this wall is a sight to see. The high turbo is getting replaced also. Talked to Chad at hotline today to document everything I had found. Very nice guy.
  4. I have seen one that had no driveability symptoms but the truck bent 2 pushrods on the same hole before the head was removed and a smashed up piston was found. Someone along the line replaced a fuel injector with a blown off nozzle and never thought to wonder where the piece went.
  5. Okay, the hot no start from last week is diaged. The o-ring between the updated pump connector and branch tube blown out, it's more like a "c" ring. One problem, someone prior to me working on this truck put the updated connector on crooked and proceeded to crossthread a bolt into the branch tube. Also I have a 6.4 with contribution codes and wacked out fuel trims on every cylinder with little sparklies in the secondary filter housing. And I'm still trying to get this ESP motor torn down. And there's still 6.0 headgaskets sitting outside
  6. With a $700 price tag I think I'll keep the stock trac bar.
  7. 06 F-550 that's a hot no start. Can't get IDS on it because of shitty vpwr pin fit at the DLC. I dug through mountains of pigtails today looking for a pin that would work, no dice, had to order a 16 pin connector Drove this other 6.0 F-550 outside that's got a major oil leak and blowing coolant out the bottle. This thing has a black reman complete in it and I didn't put it in. It's still black enough that it could be SPW. This thing is messed up, it sits there an idles the weirdest power balance I've ever seen, like the compensator isn't working. Whatever it is I don't have time for it yet. On tomorrows agenda is the 6.4 that needs a shortblock. I updated a hotline for it since it's ESP, teardown time. Hotline thinks the high turbo is out. I guess if they have to blame something it might as well be that.
  8. My service dept isn't open on saturdays either.... so what's that mean? I can actually get something done.
  9. Harness fixed it. This truck had the crank sensor wiring zip tied to an A/C line and it got sucked into the belt. I couldn't see exactly where the problem was but I had to assume it was there. The truck would sit and idle fine one minute and start violently surging the next.
  10. Thanks Mike. I've noticed the subtle differences over the years but never paid enough attention. This is the first late 04 I've needed a harness on. I do infact have a late, late 04. I got lucky, CA is the harness I ordered and it is correct. Thanks for the info.
  11. Nope these are both late harnesses. The early is a 3C3Z
  12. 04 lists two main engine harnesses. 4C3Z-12B637-AA and 4C3Z-12B637-CA and other than the damn parts description I'm unsure which is which. From what I saw today CA is listed as "without a fuel heater" and AA is "with a fuel heater" I have no idea why it would matter or which harness to order. All I know is CA is lists for much more than AA. The only difference I have noticed over the years is the length in glowplug harnesses. I have seen 04s with real short glow plug harnesses and the one I'm working on has long ones that connect like an 05+ Anyone know anything? My part guy is useless. And also this truck does not have a fuel heater but I have no f-ing idea if it ever did have one.
  13. I pick all the loose stuff out and use the EGR valve bore brush from the 6.4 tool kit. I use purple power citrus degreaser and a scrub brush for the outside. I do this all in our wash bay where they have hot water on a hose. They don't come out perfect but good enough for the trucks we see. As long as the EGR bowl area is clean I'm usually satisfied.
  14. Diesel 911 has butanol in it, butyl alcohol. That's the only ingredient I noticed that was suspect. We all know alcohol is an emulsifier. Most of the other ingredients are generally found in other diesel additives, xylene is the only other unusual one I've noticed that power service uses in all their additives.
  15. My truck froze up this morning with the proper amount of PM-23 in the fuel. Couldn't make one hill, truck shut off, primed it a could times, got it going and went a different way without hills.
  16. Kind of a related story. When I was in Buffalo our other guy diaged a 6.4 needing a set of turbos. So I get back and he gets to work installing them. Truck is done, he takes it for a ride, makes it about 5 miles and gets it towed back. No oil pressure. Back in the shop it became apparent very quickly this truck hadn't had an oil change in a while. We later find out it was about 50k miles! Needless to say it needs a motor and it roasted the new turbos already. It's still sitting outside, no idea who's paying for those turbos but I can take a guess
  17. I spent a long time on those today, more time than I have to waste. 4 bolts total broke off below flush. For some reason I could not get the MIG dialed in. For 2 hours I welded up the stud and snapped it off. could not get anything to bite. Finally got my voltage and wire speed right and they started coming out. Around 4 the manifolds were back on, every bolt started perfect but not without cooking my mind for today.Jump in it with IDS, crank, crank, crank, ICP builds, crank, crank, crank, crank. WTF? Key off, crank, crank, fires up. What the hell was that? Now it fires every time and I can't get it to do it. Time to leave. If you notice the block in the above pic it's pretty safe to say I'm going to be inspecting the cam sensor for rust jacking tomorrow.
  18. The one I just put in did not have a plug stuck in the bottom.
  19. Thanks for the input. I have found a few #8 cylinder walls washed out already. Every one has mic'd out of spec so I'm not worried there. We'll just have to wait and see what I find, it may be a few days though. I'm into dummy plugs and exhaust manifolds on a high mile 06 6.0. These damn manifolds are rotted to almost nothing. Somehow the original dummies made it to 200k. And there's another 6.0 outside that blew 2 gallons of coolant out the bottle today.
  20. From what I understand I have to basically cost cap all the failed parts and make sure it's more than a ESB, correct? I've never had a problem with motors under powertrain before but I've been known to exaggerate the truth also. This one is pretty cut and dry. #8 STFT +20, 24" of crankcase pressure at 3000 rpm.
  21. I've wanted to try this also with some fresh pump fuel and ones with various additives. From what I understand too much additive can actually increase the pour point of the fuel.
  22. Good to hear Jeff. I'm glad a repair like this has proven durability. I was split 50/50 on whether this would work or not. On one hand everything cleaned up well and went together perfect. On the other hand I am not a turbo rebuilder. There are variables at play like wear and balance that can wreak havoc if not kept in check. I waited until I had a fairly nice condition turbo in my hands before I tried it. The price for a reman is a bit high but I figure that most cores being returned only have a few (if any) usable parts left over. You're basically (but not always) getting a new turbo at that price. Media blasting the compressor and turbine housings is working extremely well. Last week I blasted another turbine housing for one I'm building right now. I got the blaster dialed in and I've never seen vanes come out so clean! When I was in training last month I wandered into the back room and found a brand new disassembled 03 turbo . I was shocked how well everything moved inside compared to even a recently cleaned unit. The turbine housing I just blasted came out the same way. Totally free vane movement. .
