I dumped some PM-23-A in my truck today at fill up. I've never tried the stuff before but we're experiencing record low sub zero temps right now.

6.0 intake cleaning
Matt Saunoras replied to Matt Saunoras's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I have no idea what they did to it. Cost me $65, needless to say it's going in my glass case along with the media blasted turbo. That intake was the worst one I've ever seen which is why I didn't want to clean it myself, it would have taken me hours doing my normal method. The EGR ports and baffle area were solid carbon and the outside was caked in mud. I didn't realize it would come out that nice or I would have done a before shot. -
This is what happens when you let a machine shop clean your only spare intake. You end up with one that's too nice to put on a vehicle. Thanks a lot. I thought I was doing a good job on my own, the bar has just been raised.

good stuff -
I sent 20+ scrap coolers to Bulletproof last year and in lieu of payment I opted to get one free 6.0 square cooler to keep here at the shop. I'll tell you one thing, when you've got a customer who's sick of replacing oem EGR coolers it's pretty easy to sell a bulletproof. When I sell one I use the money to reorder a new one.

I picked up my first cab on my 18k rack this week. It was an extended cab and wasn't quite as easy as I'd hoped. I need to be more aware of being dead center between the posts and being straight in my bay. As you can see my bays are angled and it's a tough angle to pull in a super duty, if the shop was 10ft wider it'd be fine. Zero chance I'll be picking up any regular cabs on those lifts too. Now the other rack on my side is a 12k with 3 stage arms. The arms are super short on this thing and it would be perfect for pulling cabs. Now how do I get our other tech to "share" Also I will admit those floor spotters are an absolute nightmare. I'm ready to chisel them up

I believe the 6.0 EGR cooler core is to keep them from the aftermarket. There are more than a few companies cutting open coolers and re-gutting them. Same with the valves, aftermarket is remanufacturing them.

Done it before, you'll lose about a quart. Not as bad as it seems 6.0 ambulance came in today, P0299 and a P2262. I cleaned the turbo twice on this thing already in the last year, first time it was frozen, second time it was during a cooler repair just to make sure it was still freed up. Gave it a quick pid check today. MAP and EBP both 0.00psi while idling, VGT duty cycled from 85% to 15% by itself and no change in either pid. EBP desired was around 3psi. Looked at the 6.4 finally too. RH up-pipe is split and it's got a P0231 for the frame rail pump. Put a pump in it and the cust came and got it. Plow truck and we had a few inches of snow yesterday. Did the rad and a/c compressor in the 6.7 today, going in tomorrow to swap the EGR cooler and pull the DEF tank. I worked 13 hours straight yesterday between looking at different shit and going from heads off to running on the 6.0 with fuel in the coolant.

fuel inj. top oring service
Matt Saunoras replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I will be attmepting this if the need ever arises. How much labor should we be charging for this repair? I typically do 6 hours to r&r f-series injectors -
Well I can no longer say I've never pulled the same cab twice. Actually this truck is my eternal comeback so I shouldn't even be surprised. 05 6.0 I've done the coolers, all 8 injectors in 3 separate trips, exhaust manifolds, ficm, and most recently (4k miles ago) the headgaskets. Well the cabs off again right now for what? Fuel in the coolant. This things a plow truck with a spreader and the guy must have been lugging it down the highway in 5th gear with the plow up. He said the needle moved up on the coolant temp, he dropped it into 4th and things cooled down. This guy isn't stupid, next stop he pulled the degas cap and smelled fuel.It was a very small amount of fuel, the least I've seen yet to date. The crack was so small I couldn't get it to leak by pressurizing the coolant and soaping the injector bores. I had to get both heads off, put the injectors back in and apply 65 psi of pressure to the fuel passage before I found #5 leaking ever so slightly. Had I known it was #5 from the start I would have just put a head on it in the cab. Oh well, on my other rack is a 6.7 for a locked up ac compressor, belt is gone, P0401 stored in memory along with DEF codes, rad is leaking too. All retailOh yeah and outside is a 6.4 for some kind of low boost concern, not sure but I think it's warranty.

2007 6.0L random starting issues
Matt Saunoras replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Not personally but my buddy who's a diesel tech at another dealer had a no-start possibly RFI problem caused by the starter. The only thing he noted was the starter did sound odd while cranking. The truck did get a main engine harness before the starter was deemed the cause. -
04 F250, blowing coolant out the degas. 120k miles. This thing is on its 3rd EGR cooler and second headgaskets. Never once had an oil cooler put in it. Customer has been driving it with the EGR valve unplugged for who knows how long. First things first, pull the valve, it's soaked. Pull the cooler, it's bone dry by the time I get to it but I've got white crust all around the up-pipe flange and back of the cooler. Sneaky bastard. Also found the cooler to intake gasket basically destroyed and coated in wet carbon. I can image this thing is leaking from the valve being unplugged. Back pressure has to go somewhere.

Right angle grease gun adapter?
Matt Saunoras replied to Matt Saunoras's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
That's like the one I had. It has a plastic insert that seals up againt the grease fitting. Mine wore out and wouldn't seal after about 3 uses. -
jeweler hammer? is there anything you can't fix?

Right angle grease gun adapter?
Matt Saunoras replied to Matt Saunoras's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
When I worked at lincoln a guy there had an end that could be used as a straight or 90° adapter. I remember what it looks like but in the 4 years since I've been gone I've never been able to find one. I'll keep my eyes open for something that works. I'd have no problem getting a dedicated gun just for a 90° adapter, I just need to find one first. -

Right angle grease gun adapter?
Matt Saunoras replied to Matt Saunoras's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
I tried that today with mine, it's a hair too long to get on straight -
Any one you guys prefer? I had a cheapie that worked for maybe 3 sets of upper balljoints before the plastic insert got mangled up.
-
haha I wouldn't doubt that!

Actually the hoist installers told me removing those floor spotters actually voids any kind of warranty on the lift and it negates any kind of liability the installers have. As much as I feel they are not necessary either there's no way I can do anything about them being the racks are brand new.

Network Issues - Intermittent
Matt Saunoras replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Not on a super duty but I had a 13 Escape that was doing something very similar (if not the same). It was so intermittent that I never could duplicate it with any regularity and the vehicle ended up being bought back. -
I didn't know that either I always wondered what would keep you from driving around with a reductant fault. Don't worry though, I wasn't wondering too hard
-
I bought one today too. I'll snap some pics if I get a chance tomorrow
