  1. Don't go to International looking for a FICM halfshell or be prepared for some strange looks. You better call it an IDM bottom or else.. $136 out the door, we have a wholesale account with them but I've never been down there before.
  2. Well if the first letter is E then we might not be seeing these for a few months? A = 2010, B = 2011 and so on. edited several times because I got confused
  3. I need someone to make me a 6.4 kit for one outside.
  4. Well I'm not going to get to find out how that new IPR screen works on an 03. The IPR is toast. Drove the truck ten miles today, it's running like a top. Get within 20 feet of the shop and it dies. By some miracle, I'm in a busy single lane road in front of the shop and there's a guy coming the other way making a left right as I'm making my left. I had plenty of momentum to coast across the lane, into the lot and park it out of the way. Usually the lot is jammed up with drop off cars and usually the road is so busy you can't get in or out. Some how, some way I didn't get stuck on the road with a dead 6.0 It actually threw me a P2623, IPR circuit failure or something along those lines. Can't say I even knew that code existed.
  5. One of our customers F-350 dump has a cut out crossmember. I can only assume it was the one tech before me that did it. I did work with him for a short time when I started but he didn't last long. It's no mystery why our shop didn't do trucks before.
  6. Here's a pic. I noticed looking at the back side of the screen that the dirt is hanging through the courser mesh screen. This truck did have a rough idling power balance with no individual misfires present like I have seen with previous IPR contamination concerns. Since it hadn't ran in a year I wasn't sure what was going on.
  7. Any reason to not put a new style IPR screen on an 03-04 IPR valve? I've got an early IPR screen that's been pushed in from dirt in the oil reservoir. As far as I know you can't get the early screen by itself, is this correct?
  8. Got it all authorized, FICM, main engine and FICM harnesses, both coolers (yes the 03 is actually leaking), A/C compressor, serp belt, oil pan, one p/s line, coolant flush, fuel filters, batteries, ICP sensor, front brakes, rotors and balljoints plus all the typical crap that goes with it. I'll clean the turbo and the intake like always. The econoline V10 longblock job is going down the street to our independent buddies. phew!
  9. I keep 2 of those little round oil rail plugs on hand just incase. I keep forgetting to take one out and check it so I know what to expect.. I've been lucky, never really had a starting concern that got the brain warmed up.
  10. Summer vacation waiting to start my senior year of high school. Didn't know anything about cars, didn't even own a car! Surely never heard about a 6.0L
  11. Went and looked at the 03 F-550 tonight. I didn't know it before but found out it hasn't ran in over a year. Threw IDS on it and it gave me all injector low codes. A quick peak at MPWR showed 20v cranking. Tossed my spare ficm in it and got those injectors rattling good. It's still a really slow crank but it ran and idled fine for about 45 minutes while I was there. They're going to try and drive it up to the shop tomorrow. They pulled it out, moved it around, moved the boom around and all that stuff worked fine. The A/C compressor is about to spit the hub off. The main engine harness is quite chewed up from varmints. The coolant looks like rust water. I ran the rpms up and cycled VGTDC and the turbo atleast moves around but could probably use a good cleaning. Also the ICP is leaking a little bit. We shall see how this "barn find" 6.0 goes
  12. There is a post on the message boards about the injectors. The stop sale applies to complete engines that have these bad injectors installed too. From what I read these injectors are leaking down fuel at the return port causing a no start hot with no fuel dillution in the oil. Other than that I don't know any specifics. There is a test in the PC/ED to check for fuel flow on the return side without the injectors being commanded to fire.
  13. Hmmm not sure on that one. I did a dpf a few weeks ago on a C&C but all I did was jack up the whole post DPF exhaust so the hangers swung the pipe backwards about 3-4" Today I did one #7 injector on a 06. Quite possibly the worst overfueling injector i've ever seen without external damage. Talked to the shop guy down at the ambulance garage. They own a fleet of econoline buses too, all v-10s. one 07 blew a heater hose, overheated and smoked the headgaskets. I can't fit it inside so if they want to long block it I'll be back outside for a few days. Also talked to another guy with a 03 6.0 F-550 bucket truck that is at a phone company a few miles down the road. It's a hard start cold, runs rough so I'm going to try and make a road call after work tomorrow to have a look. Even if I can get it up to the shop it's not fitting inside either.
  14. Both of us in our shop were scheduled for the classroom at the same time and about 2 weeks away they made the command decision to take me out. The shop would be useless with the best 2 out of 4 techs gone. I haven't even been re-enrolled yet. My guess is our crack service team has forgetten.
  15. I've had luck pushing the glowplug harnesses out from the inside. This is made even easier with all the injectors removed.
  16. Didn't do shit today. Looked at one 6.0 for a waterpump leak. That job left because napa has one for $100 cheaper and the guys gonna do it himself. Looked at a 08 E-350 ambulance with the DRLs flickering all the time. Unplugged the module and taped up the connector.... fixed. The drivers are supposed to turn the headlights on all the time anyways. Had a 6.4 on the schedule for a P0088 and it was a no show.
  17. Hmmm well I don't know now. I took a 110 off mine and thought I was putting on a 140. Honestly I didn't notice any size difference. The one I put on mine though was not a reman and was a left over brand new unit. Does your truck have dual alternators or any kind of package that would equip it with a single 140 amp? I always assumed the 140 was just for trucks with dual alts. Perhaps a Lariat or a truck with a lot of accessories would have a single 140. My truck is an XLT with very few options. OR what else is possible is the one in my 140 amp box was not a 140.
  18. oh yeah, the ambulance needs headgaskets. I told them about it and let it go for now with some new heater hoses.
  19. I'll admit, I think the techs there are a bunch of greedy fucks BUT they have a point. On an econoline anything that can go wrong eventually will go wrong and you can't really beat the warranty on a complete. I like fixing shit as I see it but sometimes you don't see it all. Anyways I had a little scare on the oil cooler job today. Started filling the truck up with simple green and water and it started pouring down the front of the engine. Instantly thought cooler cover or maybe I disturbed the intake o-ring. Nope, luckily it was only the heater core inlet tube that slides into the front cover. Didn't change the o-ring and I sliced it. That fix was way easier than I initially thought it was going to be. The truck is done, cooler cover not leaking yet.
  20. GL-8697-RM, 6C3Z-10346-DBRM is a single alt 110 amp GL-8698-RM, 6C3Z-10346-BBRM is a upper dual alt 140 amp Both mount on the intake manifold and are interchangable for 05+ f-series. I run the 140 amp alt on my truck. Stole it off ebay and it had the original box so I got a $75 core refund.
  21. Heater hoses in a 6.0 ambulance. This thing is an 06 that has 266k on it. I'm quite familar with this one too. Last time it was here I put a degas bottle in it after it split wide open. Now it's back and I notice the tell-tale white staining all over the bottle.
  22. I keep a new cover on hand for when the situation arises but the job is already discounted way down so it didn't walk out the door. It almost seems like you can't call enough parts on these engines. The largest competing dealer in the area will not remove a customer pay e-series engine without quoting a complete. Regardless of the repair. Shortblock, headgaskets, cracked heads, they all get quoted entire engines.
  23. I quoted 2 not even thinking to look up the time. I hadn't done a set in a while
