  1. 11 6.7L over-fueling on #7, smoking and knocking. Relative comp. was all zeros. Replaced injector, smoke gone, runs a lot better, take it off idle and she rattles pretty bad. Heads coming off that one as soon as I get an answer on the no-start 6.4L that needs a HP system and engine. The pics I posted of the 7.3L is in for a thermostat, oil leak and battery light coming on. It has a reman alternator in it, but you should see the butcher job of the battery cables. The alternator was cooking hot after running for less than 5 minutes. Updating: the 6.4L got pushed out until further notice. I pulled the pan off the 2011 6.7L to find bearing material. My guess is it hydro-locked and wrecked the bearing. Surprised it runs so good.
  2. I quoted a complete drop-in engine. And for shits and giggles I made up 2 more quotes, One for injectors, the other for the HPP. We shall see what happens. Plus he wants his 1 year old dead and won't hold a charge Canuckian Tire batteries put back in. We advised him that no work will be done unless it has 2 good batteries in it, and if he wants us to take the ones I just put in it out, he needs to come get his old ones and take them back to Canuck tire for warranty. If not it gets pushed back outside.
  3. After having to fill 3 plastic cap fulls to get the "conditioned fuel" out of the rail, so I could actually see what was in there, I did find metallic flakes. Also checked compression on right bank, #1 puts out 170 PSI. Quoted a 6007 assembly to get this guy on the road. I am leery about the response. I might just be putting injectors in this thing for now.
  4. Low pressure system 7 psi, fuel had way to much conditioner in it for my liking so I flushed out the fuel system to be sure. High pressure system makes 7000 PSI with in 2 seconds of cranking and settles down to 4600 PSI if you keep in cranking. Has SYNC and RPM signal. No fuel is getting into the cylinders, no evidence of rust or contaminants in the fuel system. No codes. Customer said he was cruising on highway when it started to chug, belched a bunch of smoke, settled down to normal then 10 minutes later it shut down. Truck is tuned with exhaust delete. I tried returning to stock with no change, installing tune back in had no change either. I have had one truck before that needed 8 injectors to get it going, for no apparent reason. Oh, an BTW it also has low compression, 250 PSI across the board, low, but should still fire. Thoughts?
  5. I knew a guy that didn't want to dump any money into his winter beater Chevette that had a wicked pull. He just adjusted the front tire pressures till it drove straight.
  6. $35.20 per flat rape hour. Is that with or without bonus' like training for example? I am not going to complain so much about my wage now.
  7. So I dropped my HP W7 machine yesterday , decided to upgrade instead of fixing it. Got myself an ASUS unit with Windows 8. I have the option to upgrade to 8.1 for free. It's all set-up and running nicely on W8 and IE10. Has anyone done the upgrade to 8.1? Is it worth it?
  8. Sometimes shorted injectors will interrupt the the FICM to PCM signal and shut the truck down. If they get bad enough they will cause no starts to.
  9. So I was informed of a little trick for us Canucks concerning IDS. I set my country to USA and now have the OASIS link and the Network tab. The OASIS link is very useful, but the network tab pops up a window saying I need to go to PTS website and use the toolbox to use it. Is that the same for others?
  10. 2015 F550 6.7L with a frozen fuel system. Secondary filter is cracked and spewing fuel all over the engine. Water separator is frozen and I can't get the filter cap off yet.
  11. As far as I know it did, been almost a week and they haven't come back.
  12. Not a big fan of diff work, but this is where making yourself a set of setup bearings will be handy. I also have had good luck using same size shims when only a gear swap is done.
  13. Only issue I had after installing 93 was when trying to perform interactive diagnosis in PPT KA on a 2012 F550, IE kept locking up because of script issues. Did it 6 times before it finally let me through the whole PPT. Keith, have you tried a hard reset on the VCM? There is a message about some laptops not having enough voltage at the USB port for VCM update. They recommend having the VCM connected to a vehicle before updating.
  14. I have one in right now. PPT finds no issues. MAP_A reads 41.8 PSI, with BARO at 13.7, that puts me at 28.1 PSI boost. Steady cruise at 100 KM/hr. EGT readings are around 750 F, datalogger shows 110KM since last regen completed. Regen was inactive at time code was set. MAP is plugged with soot. Going to clean and see if truck returns.
  15. Never had this kind of complaint before. Only things that come to mind would be the shielding on the line and slave cylinder, or oil on the clutch disc.
  16. We get that too. As soon as we mention the phrase "We have tried everything else, all that's left are the injectors." They leave.
  17. 2012 F550 getting a 6006 assembly for buggered crank bearings. This one just followed a 2011 F350 that got the same treatment for the exhaust valve failure.
  18. Very sad news. RIP Grampy. Your input and wit will be missed.
  19. If you wire the PTO wires directly to B+ it will do that. Sometimes it prevents running KOER because it thinks the PTO is engaged, and the wire needs to cut to proceed.
  20. We have the same problem here. Not sure what it causing it. One week the wireless will work great, next week nothing. Always works outside. I went and got myself one of the longest printer cables I could find so I can keep my laptop on my tool box when the wireless is down.
  21. Brass scraper and brake cleaner. Then finish off with a scotch brite pad( not the kind you put on a buffing wheel, use the big rectangular pads). You don't need to get it shiny, it just needs to feel smooth.
  22. The chains on the first run of these engine were made from crap metal. They changed the metal in 2012. At least that is what I heard.
  23. Hotline told us to remove the right valve cover and use a borescope to look at the tensioner. If you can see 5 or more teeth showing then you have a stretched chain.
