  1. Yeah, that's the sound of the life being sucked outta me by some incompetent boob, who skullscrewed one of my customers trucks! Actually it was more like a hissing sound. Seems Joe Q Public's truck broke down in Delaware. Crank/no start. Has it towed to the nearest Ford dealer. Hmmmm. Hell, must be the HPOP, or maybe it's an injector. Whatever, no big deal, seen both fail. The sad part is, the dumbfuck destroyed the y-pipe,squeezed out the EGR cooler gasket, destroyed the clamps, and left the turbocharger and pedestal bolts all loose. How this truck even made it back to CT. I'll never know. I'm just guessin' now, but I'm pretty sure I'd be right in assumin' that this boob railed about the times he got paid, and that somehow justified the shitty job he performed. It's bad enough when the manufacturer screws up,even worse when you have to second time some clown's incompetence. Sorry, I'm just ventin' Need to do some drinkin' this weekend!
  2. This R.O goes back to April, truck had 10 miles on it at that time. Time for the sales yuks to do something other than stand around smokin'. Fire this bitch up,only to have it spit and pop,and make lots of other interesting noises. We tried drivin' it out,and it got better, but in the end I decided further diag was called for. Here it is roughly 3 months later, and I finally got to it( stock unit, you see ),and lo and behold # 4 has got a max of 100 psi,and # 7 has got 275 psi. Gotta love job security. If the payin' customers don't bring me work,I can always rely on the sales dept. to leave trucks sitting for 4 to 6 months or more. This isn't the first time. How about everyone else?
  3. It took the overall victory, and third place with the second car, albeit on the lead lap, and this was due to extremely stressed driveline components. These same cars had won the 12 hours of Sebring, however I did not realize they were diesels, I thought they were the old gas powered R8s. This could really change diesels as we know them. If you check the link,Audi has added some interesting stuff, that wasn't there on Sat when I posted.
  4. How about that! I fixed a no start/no spark concern when hot on my Indian Chief,by....... Coolin' the trigger with an ICE CUBE! Technician my ass! Call me a shadetree! Glad ya got it fixed!
  5. At least nothing is really in the way, right? I have not had the pleasure of wrenchin' an LCF, and fact is, I don't really want to. I did not take the NMT course, so we don't sell them. Like I needed something else to repair!
  6. Had another problem child come in due to the 06E17 FSA. Cause? Another pin hole leak in the bellows. Turbo made 21 psi, and accelerated ok, but didn't seem quite right. What sucks about this whole camPAIN, is that these trucks ran with no discernable issues prior to the reflash. I am not saying they weren't there, just that the FSA amplifies the issues. Of note. Do not bother using the 132b PIDS! They are useless and inaccurate. I was told by engineering that if the 132b-stk PID said yes, replace the turbo. On 3 trucks this proved fruitless. Fact is I learned after the first one,but for some reason I kept giving Ford and Navistar the benefit of the doubt. They have now changed their tune, and I was told that they will be eliminated,as they are proving inaccurate. If anything I will replace both,as the turbo must be removed regardless of whether it is a failed component or not,but that's just me. I'm tired of doing things twice, even when it pays.
  7. One of my bros in the shop is the resident computer geek,in fact runs his own business as a side. Sooooo, when there are issues Dan gets the nod. Management has basically left things up to him. At least we(the techs)know things are being taken care of.
  8. Our FSE says a Jan release on the motor,NMT sometime before that. We'll see.
  9. Audi R10 TDI Watching the race on Speed Channel. These things are kickin' ass, and takin' names! At least in the opening hours. Prompted me to check them out, suggest you do the same. Common rail injection with pressures around 25,000 psi 650 Hp, 1100 Nm torque, you do the math. V12 5.5L twin turbo aluminum block 4 valve twin cam heads. Amazing!
  10. Leave all lines connected, and unbolt the ABS unit from it's bracket. Then as an aid, pull the lines from their retainers on the frame rail. You should then be able to lay everything against the left side of the engine, and secure with bungie straps. Take some time to REALLY look at it,and it will all make sense. It can be done, and it makes the job that much easier if you don't have to get involved in brake bleeding.
  11. Nope, not feelin' good about the FSA! Sorry Keith. I had a truck that learned, but still set P132b and P2263 DTCs intermittently. This damn thing was incredibly frustrating. Smoked it ten ways to Tuesday,no evident leaks. Had the FSE and Navistar involved on this one,all to no avail! Last part? Y-Pipe. No one in the shop could show me where it was leakin',but there you have it. The stratedgy looks for a minute change in pressure when selftesting, which may be at ANY time, and if it does not see the pressure change, the DTCs are set (1-2 psi). As well anytime you selftest and/or clear DTCs, the VGT stratedgy MUST be relearned! If it is not, the VGT will be stuck in a varying cycle(learn mode),and never produce power properly. Isn't this great!
  12. Has anyone had issues with their PDS losing communication? This is a constant problem with ours, and I refuse to purchase my own until I know whats up. Other than this isuue it's a tits tool.
  13. Busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest! Turbos,HPOPs & quick disconnects, and additional o-ring leaks. Oh! How can I forget the aftermath of the 06e17 FSA! Chased down an intermittent low power for 3 weeks, due to an exhaust leak so small,it wouldn't show up with a smoke test! Brilliant! Damn,I've been gone so long,I'm a junior member. How is everybody else out there?
  14. And oh yeah, nobody mods these trucks!Sounds like the stratedgy used on the Mustang.
  15. The senario generally goes like this: Blown headgasket, engine overheat,EGR cooler tube brazing melts,or cooler distorts causing the tubes to crack, engine coolant is then introduced into the EGR system, which is then circulated through the engine, and out the exhaust producing prodigious amounts of smoke from the tailpipe. Easy check for coolant in EGR system is to remove the valve and insp both the valve and intake. If there is coolant in the system, you'll know it,as there will be a greasy, gooy mess on the valve, and in the ports. If it is just starting,it may still just be in the intake ports, and may not produce smoke, until the engine is good and hot. Of course you should also see the coolant level continually dropping, after being properly filled to the correct level when cold. If you are not using coolant, chances are thats not your problem. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif It should also be noted that if you are using coolant, and it's not in the EGR system, you will need to look at the other parts of the cooling system in this engine.
  16. Been workin' on an '05 E-350, low ICP. Diag led to a failed HPOP,as the IPR had debris damage,no big deal, other than it's in a van. Replaced HPOP,quick disconnect, and IPR as required, tried to start, not happening. ICP is now at 30psi,before change was at 200psi. Reperform air test, sounds like it's leaking back at the pump/connect/tubes,etc. Spoke with hotline[first time in a long time!]and they think that a tube may have been cracking, and install of the pump and connector finished it off. Has anyone seen this, especially on the '05s? I failed to mention, this was a stall, crank,no start.
  17. Excellent idea! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif The setup I use is pretty simple, and easy enough to monitor while driving. When I first started with the 6.0L, checking was a pain, it only took a wiser man, a Home Depot, and about 5 bucks for me to change my attitude. If for nothing else, I can sell a fuel system service, and , or eliminate dry firing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rockon.gif
  18. I wonder how many headgaskets have been replaced because of this. I was told a year ago by a Navistar engineer that the bottles were overfilled, and when the engines reched temp they would puke out. I have only done 2 headgasket jobs, and they were both on "tuned" engines. This makes me so happy! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
  19. I think this might be the reason we haven't heard an official statement from Ford telling us not to raise cabs or that they do not endorse the practice. Ed, They have this neat picture at YTC that shows a cab off with the caption "Just don't do it!" /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/poke.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
  20. If that was the case ALL injectors would be affected, not just one. Are we to assume that this engine had THAT much water in the fuel? Why has this not happened on a regular basis? I have had numerous no starts, poor running, diesels where the sole cause was water in fuel saturation, and none broke injector tips. BOGUS! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif
  21. I must be the only one that ever sees these things.Got an '05 E-350 in right now, doing an HPOP ,hole in the IPR,bet I've had a dozen anyways! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif Technically anytime an HPOP lets go,we should be opening the system, and at the very least blowing it clean with shop air, then replacing the check valves ,yeah that'll happen. Ed, guess I've been lucky too. Ya know, I have yet to have an issue with o-rings,but pumps, that's a different story!
  22. Hey guys, I meant painted purple. Didn't anybody else see the Fordstar broadcast about modified vehicles and lack of maintainence, and how you could trash someone's warranty? It showd a worked over SD 7.3 with a purple trans. Anyways I found out it is an ATS super duper level 5 triple wazoo slushbox and converter. Way more tranny than this truck needs, but then, a fool and his money are soon parted. If the truck is still here tommorow, I'll take pics
  23. Does anyone know who makes the purple 4R100? Got one behind a 7.3 with an ATS lockup controller and the customer is claiming a lack of power. feels like it is dragging a ship anchor, makes 16psi boost all PIDS ok. I'll take pictures,ya gotta see it, 6"stacks and all. Could smoke it with a stock 7.3 right now
