  7. Just say no, to your S/A and S/M. Show your findings and stick to your guns. This is your comeback if it does come back. Your the last one to touch it and it will bite you in the ass. Make sure you doc. the shit out of this repair.
  8. There is a coffee table book PDF in Keiths list. I haven't seen a actual cross ref. book yet.
  9. Hey guy's......Alliant Power now has FICM's Available. There are 3 different numbers, they come programmed depending on the application. You can use any one of them to get you out of trouble and reprogram them. They all cost the same. $450.00 exchange $250.00 core. In stock, not backordered.......
  10. Did some more digging this weekend. Came up with these from Racor.................... http://www.parker.com/portal/site/PARKER...extcat=ELECTRIC HEATERS In stock at my warehouse. Racor 14257 $385.00 plus shipping. Retail $518.00
  11. Cold start is starting and running until hot???? Have you checked the LPOP and the pickup gasket that always seems to kick our ass? What has been done to this truck elsewhere? Oil change lately somewhere else? Gone back and started from square one? Take a step back and start rechecking everything.....
  12. Didn't think about the EC450 right away for this but I just did one for a guy with a Dodge and the clutch, conversion kit and fan blade were just over $1000.00. Most of the kits have been discontinued from Horton, but I can come up with the pieces for them. They are pricey though. The retro-fit kits were really nice, clutch, blade, exact fit harness, coolant fan switch,ac pressure switch and a manual switch in the dash. As for the weight of the clutch it doesn't weigh anymore than a vistronic clutch on the later trucks. It does help with weight getting rid of the steel blades and switching over to the Kysor style blades, steel hub with injection molded nylon reinforced paddles. I'll check it out tomorrow and post it for you guy's. I have a couple of complete retro-kits in the warehouse, I'll look and see if one of these would be right for your application. UPDATE: As luck has it I have this 996124 kit and the 994114 fan in stock. I opened up the kit, it has the EC450 clutch, Overlay harness, Coolant switch. Does not come with a relay or a/c pressure switch. You may or may not need them depending on the application. Your cost is $525.00 on the Retro-kit and $120.00 for the blade. Normally that clutch is $650.00 and the blade is $189.00
  13. Gasser's Yes.... DIESELS NO NEVER NEVER..... I sell em for a living have had customers change out for a direct drive with a electric fan out front, bout 95% come back and we put them back to a Viscous clutch. It's automatic and a no brainer they engage at a certain temp and dis-engage at another. The electric fans need more controls and or switches to assist in what was already designed to work. In the end it's your choice but I wouldn't recommend it..... If you do keep the old parts just in case you decide to put back the way it should be.... Good Luck
  14. Very Cool Keith, A thousand words can't say enough about that feeling you have right there!!!!
  15. Can you say used car lot!!!!LOL
  16. Check out your local Cummins Distributor, I can't remember the assy. number but we used them on alot of Dodges and Motor Homes. The replacement filter is a FS1242B. Remote head, electric element spacer and filter with water bowl. Real nice setup.
  17. Ahem....Not quite Keith...... The things that bring most techs and dealership employees to the breaking point is the media and the lower life parts changers and Youtube pro's(Rex), not to mention any problem a vehicle may or may not have is magnified 10 fold due to the internet and the like. We didn't see the problems we do this bad before the information-highway formed. We have found new "professional" advise in the "monkey house" and the like. People that only have "worked" on maybe 1-2 vehicles in their whole life and its gospel to them. Remember the 7.3 oil pan fix?????? Sorry, OMFG are you kidding me. We could have almost overhauled the engine and put it back in the time they killed a bay, let alone "patching a oil pan". The things that keep us coming back.......New and different situations everyday. Lets face it if it wasn't for the "pros" out there we wouldn't be able to make fun and realize that we do know what we are doing for the most part..... We aren't perfect but who is? We need to learn something new everyday. If we think we are above that we might as well be them..... Keith, You can polish this and edit as needed, maybe expand on what I missed, I'm sure Gym will and so will some others. Pick the best key points from all of us and make us proud.
  18. Jim, TSK TSK, You haven't even brought up the "EDSEL" car line. Oh and don't forget about the "Tucker". Talk about cars before their time and mistakes that have been made. I would love to read that PDF...... As for remembering the "Red 318" That I can't but I'm sure I probably worked on one way back when....... Shit I have a hard time remembering my last boner......
  19. 08 Grand Caravan SE, Being the fact it's actually a VW with Dodge badges, I figure I'm pretty safe. Also when time permits my 73 Glastron GT-150, this year so far NONE But as always I have my JD STX38 lawn tractor, of which I have used 2-3 times a week this year after having blown the head gasket to little pieces last year. Push mowers SUCK. Then there are our mountain bikes, of which mine has never been off of the street.
  20. Let's see..... 318 Poly Motor, No. 225 Slant Six, Yes and really hated the POS electrical system. 144 Ford, No but did play with alot of the 170 and 200 big brothers. Cartridge oil filters, Yes and still sell them. Polarize generators, Yes first things I ever rebuilt. Air gap in Voltage regulators, Yes same as above. Dwell gauge, Yes but it was stolen in high school, never replaced it. Also note, Had numerous match books just in case my points burnt up on the road.
