  1. Looks like a slight takeoff or reference to the bacardi and coke commercials
  2. Quote: Ford is asking us to LOAD TEST I like to call it the "burn your fingers and blind your eyes" test.
  3. Here is another interesting concept, that is getting alot of attention: HCCI
  4. Of course they got one, you know how they roll in Texas....
  5. You certainly can, that's why I put it here. That's what I like about the PDF's; you can save it to your computer and then access it quickly and easily at anytime. I have all the coffee table books and some my PDF's right on my work computer's desktop.
  6. I put together a little document for everyones viewing pleasure. It involves testing fan clutches and goes a step further than using datalogger, enjoy:
  7. I see the new Rangers FINALLY get rear disc brakes. Still no accessory delay though. Oh well one step at a time I guess.
  8. Quote: IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR P265/40R22 LOW-PROFILE TIRES AND WHEELS If your vehicle is equipped with P265/40R22 tires, they are low-profile tires. These tires and wheels are designed to give your vehicle a sport appearance. With low-profile tires, you may notice an increase in road noise and faster tire wear, depending on road conditions and driving styles. Due to their design, low-profile tires and wheels are more prone to road damage from potholes, rough or unpaved roads, car wash rails and curb contact than standard tires and wheels. Your vehicle’s warranty does not cover these types of damage. Tires should always be kept at the correct inflation pressures and extra caution should be taken when operating on rough roads to avoid impacts that could cause wheel and tire damage. I lifted this from the owners manual (I was reading it because I pdi'd one and couldnt figure out how to work half the shit). I see this being a problem for people who have never driven a lowered vehicle or one with custom wheels and low pro tires.
  9. Quote: Replacement rear axles are expected to be available beginning January 2011. Well we got 10 grounded now, and only about 40 parking spots for customer cars. There coming in about 2 a day......gonna be a long winter.
  10. Engine oil dye is your best friend in this case.
  11. I only drive a car with 2 feet when there is a 3rd pedal. My friends father was strickin with polio at a young age. His legs and hips were deformed. This didn't stop him from living life. He had 11 children and drove an hour to work each day. I remember riding in the car with him as a kid. He would have to lift his right leg up with his hand and place it on the brake pedal and visa-versa. Panic stops were always interesting.
  12. Anybody ever watch those quirky detective shows such as Columbo or Monk? If these guys were locked in a room alone with all the clues, they probably would not solve the case. They depend on the human interaction to spark an idea or link clues together. I feel like one of these guys at work from time to time. A friend of mine called the other day and wanted some advice on buying a 6.0 liter. I asked for the VIN and told him I would run it through to see what history it had. Right out of the gate the truck has injector issues due to negative fuel pressure……interesting. As it turns out, I was working on a 6.0 with a runs rough cold issue. I checked it out and it was already warm and running fine. I checked codes and had a #5 contribution code. I flashed the PCM, thinking the FICM may be acting up and put the truck out for an overnight cold soak. The next morning the truck started and ran fine and FICM power never dropped below 48.5 volts. I was ready to punt it, but the night before; I ran my friends OASIS and remembered the relationship between low fuel pressure and injector failures. So back in the shop with the truck to install a gage and low and behold 30 psi is all it could muster. It never hurts to bounce ideas off others no matter what their level of knowledge is. You never know when they might just get you out of a jam.
  13. Do they still offer brown paper bags at grocery stores? Gotta place where they could still be put to use!
  14. Anytime you have the valve covers off, don't dick around with air checking it. Just dead head the pump with the special tools and use the ebp connector and voltage pid to look at HPOP output. It's quick it's easy and you don't have to chase hissing noises.
  15. The cam to injection pump gears are also timed with a "Y" mark. Gonna be tough to see since you've had it apart and are not 100% sure if it's back in time. I would get the gear cover back off and look down in there to see if you can see the "Y" mark on the cam. Haven't done one in so long that it's tough to remember.
  16. A similiar incident happened (don't remember where) when a tech overhauled a trans in a Suburban. Something happened with the park pawl and the vehicle rolled into a lake and the occupants drowned. Not sure if that's a word.
  17. I think it's funny how this thread has made it all the way over to the 7.3l section.
  18. If you call LUK, they have everything lined up already, no matter what your working on, it's all figured out.
  19. Just took a another look, yikes. This would never happen to me because I could never have worked in that bay, I wouldn't have any bolts to put back in the vehicle. I have a severe case of the droppsies, and that looks like a really big grate floor.
  20. I never check fuel pressure on 6.0ls, I just replace parts til I get the right one.
