  1. That dudes gotta lucky horse shoe up his ass!
  2. I've also converted many a duals to singles and LUK is the only thing I have ever used or recommended! Never a problem on my end.
  3. Alright bud, your confusing the shit outa me. First you start out with this kilometer crap then you start talking in gallons. What's next, miles and liters in the same paragraph?
  4. Quote: Here I am thinkin What have you been told about trying to do something that your not equipped to do?
  5. When I was younger and less observant [last week ], I had a F-53 motorhome with an O/D light not working. This thing was ridiculously big and couldn't get it into the shop. So I am out in the parking lot and the customer is in it also. I start to disassemble the column and he causually asks if the led could be bad. Nah, I says, those never go bad. Well after much frustration and time spent getting the shifter staulk out and back in with a new one, it needed the led in the end. Not only was it a two second fix, but the customer was right and I had to look him in the eye and admit to being a......
  6. Quote: We had several that the TCMs expired I don't think the location of the TCM helped out with any issues either.
  7. I'm still wonderein' 'bout that turbo. I've seen them cause some strange things. Next time it's in see if he wants to crack it open and have a look see. Even if turns out to be ok, probably could use a little cleaning anyway.
  8. Oh, I am enjoying it. Columbus Day brings a ton of "flatlanders" to Vermont. It's also "leaf peeping" season here. My driving experience yesterday, was like riding around in New York City. It's all good though, lots of money is spent at local business. There ain't too many people in Vermont so I ususally don't pass to many cars on my commute. With that said, you can't drive very fast around here, it's too easy to be spotted. (I miss driving really fast, the South is like the wild west when it comes to traffic violations) so when everyone comes up and floods the roads, they bring their out of state driving attitudes and I can let them flush out the cops and at the sametime pick up some speed . Happy Thanksgiving! Seems weird to say that, we're getting ready for Halloween!
  9. Quote: One thing I see a lot is blocked off air flow through the cooling stack.... You HAVE to look at the radiator since everything else will look good. The engine blew up in this one, not sure why. <snickers>
  10. Can't help you with any tsb's but I do know the 6.4's have a zero deductible.
  11. Thank you very much fellas. I appreciate all the feedback (positive being my favorite ). I think the document is getting ready to be tweaked a bit, which will make it even better. First timers that want to use it can probably put it right on there desktop at work. I have all the coffee table books on my puter desktop in my bay. Super easy to visit on a frequent basis once they're downloaded.
  12. Quote: I just use an air ratchet and get underneath the carpet Unfortunately that aint gonna happen up here. Just too much rust and them bolts seize right in there. It would be nice though.
  13. I put this together the other day, and with Keith's help was able to format it into a PDF for everyones viewing pleasure. I hope that anyone who has not done this yet can get a good idea of what's involved. An '05 up differs slightly but is much easier. This file was rather large so I broke it down into 5 parts.
  14. Quote: Upon opening the box came across the tag wrapped around the harness. Looking at it came across the term in bold, "MADE IN CHINA" The Mexican market has got to expensive for Ford. A few years ago, Ford found a 3rd world country (somewhere in central/south america) that could build their harnesses cheaper. Ford was excited because they were now gonna get them for pennies on the dollar again. Well it seems that a country that barely has running water or this new fangled thing called "electricity" just couldn't get it right. The friggin harnesses were a disaster. They made the shit quality mexico stuff look like NASA grade space shuttle stuff. Soooo Ford starts lookin around again and guess what? China can beat mexico's labor rate and built harnesses slightly better than the "indians". You're gonna see all the harnesses come from there, provided they don't have to take their shoes off to count higher than 10. But hey, if you want to get mad at somebody then get mad at americans. Most factories will gladly pay 18 bucks an hour to a high school drop out to sweep the floors and take 14 smoke breaks a day. And the guy still expects to make more!
  15. Quote: I would step away from the IDS and run. I did just that, I got in my car and took off like a bat out-a-hell. So If I am reading this right, I need to get to work extremely early in the morning and get that truck out of my bay before anyone knows I worked on it.
  16. Jim’s thread about buying a used 6.4 liter got me thinking today, I know, very dangerous thing to do. We have an ’08 that needs to be evaluated, this is what we call bringing used cars thru the shop. This truck has had issues and the owner threw in the towel and traded it in. We couldn’t even get it in the shop to check it out, it was running that bad. For some reason it got shuffled to another dealer and they put a #1 injector in it. We have it back on our lot and it has been avoided like the black plaque. I decided to put myself in Jim’s shoes and check it out as if I were a potential buyer. The truck is an F-350 cab and chassis with nothing on the back. It started and ran fine for me tonight but man she rides rough with no weight on the back. It has 42,000 and the hours equal to about 46,000, not bad. The history shows a radiator, belt and tensioner, and somebody just replaced the number 1 injector. The antifreeze was a little low so I topped it off and checked for combustion gases, it was ok. I short sticked it and it was high but who knows when the last oil change was. Checked for codes and WIF was present. So I then checked the short fuel trims and all of them were hanging around -3 to 0 except #8 which was at +20. Now we have seen 3 catastrophic engine failures in the month of September, all with #8 cylinder being the problem. What would your next step be if you spotted that in datalogger?
  17. Well, I followed the diesel path to senior master because there were less classrooms to go to. Now I have to get all the gas driveabilty classes to work on gassers. My next class is in conflict with my ASE recert. Uh boy.
  18. Good luck . I would check that cooling system closely also and might not hurt to replace the t-stats if you pick it up.
  19. Well, scratch another one off the list. Number 8 cylinder on one of our units we sold. I am predicting a 90% failure rate on all the 6.4's we've sold. Shouldn't be hard to achieve the way these things are crapping out.
  20. I was under the impression that all the 6.7's were getting the upgrade unless already in it from the factory. Am I wrong on this? we just had a claim bounce because they said it didn't qualify for the upgrade. I read the letter and it says anything after 8/23/2010 already has it and this truck was built 6/18/2010. The OASIS shows no campain messages found. According to those dates, I would expect 10B17 to show up. Are there trucks that are singled out and not getting this?
  21. Aftermarket warranty companies are a strange entity. I know they are there to make money, but the whole numbers game just makes me shake my head. It’s a big gamble warranting a product you didn’t build, have a say so in design or input on vendor choice. I know they make a ton of money because the payout over the life of the vehicle is usually never equal to or greater than the amount the customer paid for the contract. Then the 6.0l came along and would surely bring the fat cats down off the top of the hill where they count their millions. Did you know that most of the company’s we deal with don’t pay any diagnosis. So the customer has to pick up that portion of the bill. I doubt they are ever told this while in the finance office writing out a check. Now they are faced with a vehicle that has a high pattern failure rate. What’s the solution? Start shuffling those numbers around and rewrite some small print in the policy’s. I actually have no idea what these guys are up to, to be honest with you. I do know if we put in a call for head gasket issues, we can’t say anything about head bolts and stretch or anything of that nature. It seems gaskets are covered but fasteners are not. I was asked if a head gasket was breached. Let me see….a multi layer steel gasket…umm, SURE it’s “breached”. Just some ramblings of a really bored auto mechanic, 'scuse me technician.
  22. I was checkin in on Mike's back log, but looks like it applies in both cases.
  23. Quote: fuel has entered the coolant I don't recall seeing a F-Series with fuel in the coolant, only E-Series. How many you fellas seen?
  24. Well, what's the story mornin' glory? You tear this thing down and find all kinds a busted up shit? Photos pleaze.
  25. You don't even want to know the troubles that boys got!
