6.4 Driving Impressions
eastendpowerstroke replied to Bruce Amacker's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I'm glad to hear Johns doing this class I haven't seen him for years Sr Masters don't get to classes to often I used to go to Teterboro from eastern Longisland for class because I liked having John Clark as an instructor. One of my guys was just at a suspension class in Yonkers with John he's doing his training for the class now or early Jan I belive, and was told that classes for us won't be till jan-feb. I asked him to put me in the first one in Yonkers /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif Do you go to Philly or Yonkers Keith? Philly starts 1/16-1/18 P.S it would be real nice if Ford went out of their way to pass info on to the techs on there front line that will need to deal with these trucks FIRST long before any "Aftermarket" will in such a grand way as they have for Bruce /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smhair.gif -
I've seen the TBC light come on during an extended crank of like 20-25 seconds building oil pressure after injector replacement. If he's cranking the crud out of it trying to start it with a HP oil leak it's gonna come on, good chance after you fix the starting problem it will go away on it own.

I'd be willing to bet all of us have done just that.I know I have /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif

Stand tube O-rings
eastendpowerstroke replied to DieselD's topic in 4.5L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I have had both F-series and LCF's with the o-rings torn on the stand pipe and plug More LCF's than SD. Any no start I get check fuel bowl, monitor ICP pressure ,if its low during crank I keep a good ICP in my tool box to swap to rule out a biased ICP, then air test next no point in wasting time . Gotta love that air pressure test man /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif saves lots of hours hunting. my personal rule is if the rails coming off it gets new rings period, I got enough teeth marks on my a$$ to last a lifetime I wont let $5 worth of o-rings add to them -
Hey Thanks Keith I forgot about that... well I just checked mine 100% across the board baby!!!!!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rockon.gif For the info fmcdealer, parts & service tab, Customer satisfaction (on left side of page), customer viewpoint, performance reports drop down tab(top of page just left of center), individual accountability, then service technician. if you want to click on your name you can see what customer threw you under the bus. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/boxing.gif

Rushing to finish up a gear swap in a mustang I tossed the carrier in check the backlash and contact pattern....(spot on cause I'm good like that) slammed the axles in whipped the cover on filled it up shot the tires back on backed it out of the shop at4:29pm went about 15 feet when the fact the I didn't put the c-clips in became obvious.. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif But I Know a guy that put two snowmobiles on a trailer in old forge NY and when he stopped on the thruway for gas a few hours later he only had one....................... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif

Do not take my primitive Pete comment the wrong way it was not intended as an insult. I harbor a HUGE hatred for the flat rate system in place at most dealers as it forces good techs to do poor quality work by holding a paycheck to there heads like a gun, thus bringing the use of an air chisel up from a last resort on a stubborn fan to the first thing they reach for just to save 5 min my only problem with it's use as a last resort is that Most flat rate techs have absolute no idea of what "a precise, and merely adequate, application of force" is. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer2.gif I won't tell you some of the things I've done to an E-super duty cutaway/school bus to access stuff /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif Not one person in this Field is without sin in the day to day life of a tech if they claim to be ..... Now I don't spend time around TDS so before writing this I spent a while reading some posts over there. I don't think I'll make it a habit to spend a lot of time there, I don't think my box is big enough to hold some of those tools around that place So don't let them bother you.

I know that you guys are finding broken injectors. What injector do you find broken the most? I have personally done 10-15 broken injectors EVERY TIME it's #1 injector. anybody else find this? Oh first 4.5L LCF yesterday with the same problem #1 Injector top ring busted?

I'll bet you theres nothing is wrong with that truck Pete....it's got a GVW over 8,500lbs trucks over 8500 GVW are Non-OBD II compliant and have the same OBD II connector as under 8,500 GVW trucks but they do not have the same self-diagnostic strategies that have been designed into their lighter counterparts. Evaporative emission and catalyst efficiency monitors are two examples so it will fail a OBDII test every time. I'm in NY and we have an OBDII inspection"smog"test I get people all the time that come to us because "MY F-250 failed inspection at the local repair shop now you gotta fix it". Well if it's over 8500 it needs a tailpipe sniff test not an OBDII scan. I'm not sure about the tests in your area but I'm sure it's very similar. UUUMMMM NO!My name is David not Primitive Pete /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer2.gif Now I will admit to using some tool for tasks they were not intended for but I usually try to have the right tools Unfortunately the flat rate pay system breeds contempt for the system, poor workmanship and most "techs" just dont give a crap about it as long as they make 70 hrs.

I got the call this morning that the same guy is bringing his 2000 f-550 in for no power I bet it needs a tank. While I do believe that since mass produced bio is still relatively new it may have some infant mortality issues but this guy isn't the only one with problems, and since you need to really hunt to find a place selling bio diesel around here I doubt it's the cause.

this guy has 5 trucks from 04-06 all have had one tank one 04 has had two tanks I'm putting the tank in the 06 as I write this I just put 3 injectors in it on 10/10 that when I found the insides of the tank packed into the fuel filter. I have probably done 12-15 tanks due to this problem so it's not just this guys fuel. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif

6.0 Injector Install
eastendpowerstroke replied to Scott B's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
If I'm spending more than a few minutes I just unbolt the latch, take the silly wing thing and the powerstroke emblem off the shroud, and lay a moving blanket over the front. These few steps make it so much more comfortable (notice I didn't say easier) when laying over the engine. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer2.gif -
Caterpillar Electronic Technician Software
eastendpowerstroke replied to Keith Browning's topic in General Diesel Engines
sorry Keith I didn't check this board till after 11 PM. I thought I had it written down someplace but I can't find it it involved changing one of the parameters to "trick" it to run the cutout test. I'll call my teps rep and find out and call you, can you be reached from the *-3200 number? -

Caterpillar Electronic Technician Software
eastendpowerstroke replied to Keith Browning's topic in General Diesel Engines
The software takes some getting used to, the nice thing is that since the HUEI systems used on the engines are essentialy the same you don't have to get your head around a completely different system. 7.3L 6.0L / 3126-C7 all the same rules apply so your life will be a little easier. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif -
Cummins 5.9 question
eastendpowerstroke replied to eastendpowerstroke's topic in General Diesel Engines
Larry no quickserve we don't do enough cummins to justify the subscription cost. 3 trucks out of hundreds sold most are cat powered and a handfull of powerstroke's I realy wish this truck had a powerstroke it's not a "WORK" truck persay it haulls speedboats around a CAT would have been overkill but the truck salesman couldn't/wouldn't/didnt talk the guy away from the cummins so I'm stuck with this sick dog /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif only picture I can find -
Any of you guys deal with cummins powered F650-750 trucks? I have 05 650 in the shop now that vibrates badly at idle in gear so bad that its broken the strap for the coolant pipe, cracking the hood, and a 1/4 on the bed.(650 with pickup bed) Now we don't deal with many dodge powered fords so my reference pool is shallow at best, and my cummins dist isn't very useful to me(you NY and NJ guys have good luck with metro power?) it's not missing/skipping and runs as good as I can expect a dodge motor to run. I drove a used 2500 dodge pickup on the lot for comparison it's engine vibrated as much as the 650 but didn't shake the truck, I'm gonna throw some motor mounts at it unless somebody has any good info for me. It's quite a cool truck shame it's been cross bred with a dodge /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/puke.gif
