  1. Keith if you can get the body up about 8 inches it will come out the front with just the oil pan and mounts removed. If your gonna lift the body please document it as I haven't had the chance to do a "cargo van" only miserable freaking pain in the ass horrible (add your own adjectives here) school buses. God I hate school buses, hideous yellow death traps.
  2. If you only did the right side head/gasket 6051AR 10.5 hrs but you could squeeze about 12-14 hrs if you use some creative penmanship If you did both sides 16-17hrs without raising any flags
  3. PSDTECH... do yourself a favor if you haven't seen this before read it before killing yourself doing headgaskets the "hard way" /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif http://flatratetech.com/images/nav_how_to.htm
  4. Yeah someday some other tech will see that and say "This guy musta had some halfassed nitrous system F*&K THIS GUY LETS CANCEL HIS WARRANTY" /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rofl.gif
  5. I've never used a torque wrench either but I allways clean both the hose and the fitting with brakeclean before I tighten the clamp with my air rachet. Funny you said that 9ft/lb is tighter than it feels, if you ever put a valve cover gasket on a 3.8L the spec is like 8 ft/lb you'ed swear the bolts gonna break off before the torque wrench clicks.. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  6. Also verify the coolant level see FSA# 05B32 REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM The coolant fill markings on the affected vehicles are incorrect, creating the potential for an over fill condition. An over fill condition may lead to fluid expulsion during high system aeration. Loss of fluid can cause engine overheating, and may cause a loss of engine power. SERVICE ACTION Dealers are to install a label on the de-gas bottle that incorporates the correct "cold fill range" min/max fluid level markings and, if necessary, adjust the fluid level. This is to be done at no charge to the vehicle owner.
  7. If the oil cooler was bad you would have oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil, that said if the coolant is clean or not oily and you have replaced the EGR cooler you more that likely have a bad head gasket or another bad EGR cooler. Air/combustion gases in the coolant can cause an erratic ect. The last EGR cooler I had was pushing coolant out of the bottle and looked oily so I was sure it was a head gasket but after it sat a while the "oily" dried and was actually exhaust soot from the cooler.
  8. pushing the up arrow to 5 on the edge tuner is fun but its murder on the direct clutch... and the rear tires all 4 in my case. ask my how I know! Edge Tuner $ 4" s/s Exhaust $ The look on the kids face when an 8,300 lb crew cab dually (with kids car seats) blows his hopped up civic AWAY!!!! $priceless /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rockon.gif
  9. Hey Keith you obviously have server space just link them to the photos they need. it's almost imposable to send photos to ford
  10. That one of the pro's to working in an "older building" nobody will install that kind of lift anymore at least not way out on my side of the earth, something about hydraulic lines under ground and the DEC. I used to work at a shop that had a lift like that picked up any thing fire trucks, school buses, dump trucks etc.
  11. At the price of gas these days my guys would gladly drained his tanks for him put it there car and driven to work for free for a week or two /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif
  12. The LCF isn't really that big it's comparable to a F-450-550If you build some stepped type ramps (I used stacked up 2x12) to drive the front wheels up on 8-10" high gives you enough room to get under for service work. it's faster and easier than lifting it for simple service work other than that most have been pretty trouble free.
  13. 14. I'll pray for you to but I don't think it will help 9 out of 10 I see wreck the cat on the affected bank/banks it may take just long enough for you to forget thats the truck I put x number of injectors in.We replaced an engine (complete ford with new injectors) in a expedtion that hydrolocked and bent a rod one month later it was towed in with #3 cyl filled with fuel "NEW" injector dumping fuel.
  15. If you can unbolt the body and raise it about 8" to 10" the engine will come out or go in with EVERYTHING but mounts, oil pan, and pickup. IF you have the crane adapters Sorry no pics I only take pictures of things I want to remember. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif
  16. Jim I feel your pain about the bonus but It's nice to hear about a shop expanding in these times when a lot are going under, laying off or "restructuring" to cut expenses. I feel the key is to negotiate the duty's of your position to allow you the time to keep up on technology and keep a watchful eye on the playground. 7 new bays, must be a big shop communication is very important make it clear to the techs that your there to help them with anything they need because it makes things go smoothly that in-turn increases productivity and makes everyone more money. It's better to pay you and a stumped tech 1.0 each to figure something out than let them spend hours firing the parts cannon at it driving your 126 off the scale and having a customer upset because they didn't get there car/truck back in a timely manor. I've never heard of a DP complaining about making money and not having to deal with drama from the customers. I'm sure we'll have more to say on this topic
  17. Anybody else seen this yet? It came in with a belt noise complaint, I didn't see anything wrong with any idlers or pulleys so I ordered a belt. that night the w/p pulley split and shredded the belt. New w/p pulley is MUCH more HD.
  18. Well I'm new to the forum but I am the working Forman in my shop. I'm still flat rate BUT I have a good rate per hr and nobody harps about me not turning hours,so I can devote the time necessary to increase productive and reduce comebacks to offset the hours lost I get a commission on profits from the shop. working out ok for me
