  1. I had an 07 or 08 F250 here a while back that was originally a US unit. It needed a new instrument cluster module for a sticking speedo guage needle(it read 60 MPH standing still). Since we were replacing the cluster anyhow and we had to call in the odo reading to get a new one, I asked if we could replace it with a Canadian version instead of the US one. That apparently can not be done under warranty, as the replacement must be the same as the original. I suspect the price of a new unit to be very high, otherwise it would be the way to go to get the correct odometer display units and the correct mileage.
  2. I saw that too, Jim. I first noticed it on an Edge that I had in for a PDI and wondered why, if the coolant was so special, did they not put a warning label on the cap or overflow bottle stating as much, and oh, I don't know, THE COLOUR IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE, MAYBE!!!!! Same as the gold coolant, no-one who isn't in the know like us techs seems to put the right colour back in if they flush or add coolant. Why do they need 4 completely different and incompatible coolants in Fords anyhow? The aftermarket sells a long-life coolant that is supposed to be compatable with all systems. What would be wrong with using that?
  3. I found if I added a washer to the tool on top of the center doodad(the d-shaped part that always wants to be in the wrong position)it allowed me to depress the spring a little further.
  4. It's gone now, but on Friday there was a broadcast message to the effect that the online WSM would be updated to reflect the new design seal. I checked Friday and it wasn't, but today it is. I only checked 08 F250, but I suspect others have been updated as well.
  5. I have been following this thread and Rex's postings(rantings?) on his website. I assume its his, right? The thing that stands out in my mind, apart from the fact he doesn't know s--t about 6.0's, is how un-professional he comes across as. He disses everyone he doesn't agree with, makes nasty comments about those people, posts demeaning pictures and generally shows a very bigoted, woman-hating attitude. If I were a typical average consumer looking for answers on the web and came across the demeaning, totally childish postings of this "legend in his own mind" a--hole, I would never choose to darken his door. He makes himself out to be a professional knowledgeable technician/business owner, but everything he writes shatters that image to the core. Were I him, I would be totally embarassed to have words of mine out in the public domain where anyone with access to the internet can read them. I may not know everything about anything, and maybe I have ruffled a few feathers over the years, but at least I think I can hold my head up fairly high when it comes to my public image. I sure can't say as much for this joker. The acid test is for me to think, what would my mother(were she still with us)think if she could read my words, would she be proud of me? Does Rex really care so little for other peoples opinion of himself?
  6. Yes it is. The engine can only drop down so far onto the crossmember, so no fear of it falling out.
  7. Any way to retrieve DTC's? You may need a wiring diagram and trace circuits. The burnt connector may signal further issues unless you have determined and fixed the cause. It may extend to having burnt out a circuit in the air suspension/evo module.
  8. What's it say? I don't have an account there.
  9. Only if your name is Rex, then we are the Powerstroke Mafia. Rex
  10. I recently re-did one that had been done at another dealer previously. Quite the butcher job-he actually cut the carpet to access the centre bolts and not even in the exact right spot! Sure made it easy for me however, as I didn't need to remove the seats. The customer sure was pissed at the other shop and didn't want to return there, ever. I use lots of anti-seize on the bolts and start them by hand and if they don't quite line up, I nudge the cab in the appropriate direction while lifting it just a bit. Anti-seize on the top of the mounts where the contact the body helps to make it slide easier. I start all the bolts before tightening any.
  11. My e-mail is brunowilimek @hotmail.com if you want a set. I printed it off from somewhere and have since edited it to suit me.
  12. I was told that the entire assembly is available from International for less than the Ford part and it even comes assembled, thus saving the PITA job of pressing the thing together. Thus confirming the previous posting.
  13. Definitely do not use Mercon 5 in transfer cases calling for the old mercon. I was told by a technical hotline engineer that as little as 1 teaspoon of mercon 5 in the transfer case of a 2002 Explorer would take out the clutches for the AWD system. The fluid could transfer through the con-joined vent tubes if the tranfer case vented enough. We still can get bulk "old mercon" style fluid from an aftermarket supplier(Esso) that is labelled as Motorcraft ATF D/M and has part # CXT 2 DBM on it. When/if this is no longer available, I would use the XL-12.
  14. Good one guys. I just ordered all the parts to do this TSB on a customer's truck and guess what, the POS gasket is only stocked in the good ol' USA. Go figure.
  15. Sold lots of them here with very few problems, just maintenance. Everone at the dealership got to drive one home for one night to try it out. I thought it rode/handled/drove well and had adequate power for my needs. I even liked the 4 cylinder manual tranny one that I PDI'd.
  16. I used our shop rad pressure tester, removed the clamp from the small hose to the rad adapter and then you can get a tee and a small length of proper diameter hose to then hook up your modified pressure tester to the overflow bottle fitting and vent hose. Use mini-clamps to hold the hoses on where appropriate, then when done testing, just clamp the previously removed rad adapter back to the hose end using one of the mini-clamps. I have not needed(yet)to test the oil cooler, but have a couple of cone shaped fittings on hand from various tools that would work. If you want to drive with the guage in sight, you will need to add a length of hose to the made-up rig for the overflow bottle.
  17. Who is powerstroker? I like his latest post, but am afraid SellC will just answer the question and not notice that it is modelled after him. Remember, he is right and all of you(us) in the powerstroke mafia are wrong(in his eyes anyhow). I am surprised that he hasn't kiboshed all of our posts on HIS website.
  18. I had something similar to that, that has finally gone away after over 3 years. My doctor suspected a pinched nerve in my neck due to repetitive looking up due to working under vehicles and started a workman's compensation file on it. It gradually abated after months of therapy and finally is gone almost entirely. I couldn't sleep on my left side at all for many months, and even now, I try to avoid sleeping on that side for very long as my shoulder aches on awakening if I have lain on it for an extended period of time. I also used to pound hubcaps on with my fists until I developed shooting pains in my wrists. I have been taking Glucosamine for the arthritis in my knees for several years now, due to repeated up/down cycles to put hoist arms under vehicles and only using a kneeling pad the last few. Now both middle fingers are getting stiff and sore due to being flexed too many times in the wrong direction(sideways). I think it's time to find a job that is easier on my body, as I want to stay active for many more years, however, in this economy and with my specialized job skills, that may be difficult.
  19. My guess? A wasted lipstick, and a pig that nobody wants to kiss. Who comes up with these proceedures anyhow? Oh, yeah, those guys.
  20. I went through the drive thru at Tim Horton's once and ordered a tea with 3 teaspoons of sugar, no milk. I waited for it to cool down a little before drinking it several miles away and what did I get? A tea with no sugar and lots of milk. Yuk! I agree that it is sometimes a stretch from what the customer said and what gets written down, but sometimes it is the customer who is speaking a different language from us AND the SW. One man's squeak is another man's creak/rattle or something completely different. I agree that sometimes talking to the customer is necessary, but then again, not always. Good communication all around is the best, but seems to be in short supply some days.
  21. Thanks, Bruce. I will check those items out when it comes back.
  22. I'm not surprised they are out of stock. I added up the injectors required to do just the first 2 of 49 pages, then multiplied that number by 49, which comes out to over 80,000. Note: the first 2 pages have the lowest number of injectors listed, so the actual total required will be quite a bit higher than that. It will take a while to ramp up production to make that many new injectors. I wonder who is going to pay for them?
  23. I've got this 05 Lincoln LS with about 56,000km on it that has 2 unrelated(likely) intermittent problems that I have not been able to reproduce. First off, no DTC's that seem to relate to the problems. First problem, the turn signals make a "horrendous noise" in the words of the customer. It has done this several times for the female driver as well as her husband and son. She described it to me so I can't really say exactly what it sounded like(if you know what I mean). Second problem is the heated seat switches that intermittently have the three red lights blink in sequence for each seat. Sort of like the lights on the front of the Knight rider's old Trans Am from the original TV show.(if I understood the description properly) The heated seats work fine the rest of the time, but she says when the lights are doing their funky disco beat, they don't heat up. I didn't spen a lot of time on this, just pulled all codes and checked OASIS without any idea where to start looking until I can duplicate and verify the exact symptoms. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  24. These TSB's seem to be Ford's easy way out for getting out of paying us to diagnose and fix the problem properly. I still remember a conundrum I faced when a 6.0 concern that I had fixed at least a month previously re-surfaced because the R.O. was not entered in the system in a timely fashion. In the meantime, an updated TSB had come out dealing with the issue I had fixed using a previous version. They refused the claim because I had not followed the revised TSB steps. DUH! The revised TSB came out a week after the truck was gone out of the shop. I think it took at least three tries and lots of my time wasted not fixing the new jobs in the shop at the time, until it got straightened out. Having a complete moron for a warranty clerk did not help either. Luckily she got "laid off" less than a week after returning from 6 months of stress leave due to getting divorced from hubby # 6.
  25. Almost forgot, he thinks those pictures of trucks with the cabs lifted were taken from the internet. I don't think any amount of time spent trying to convince this guy of his shortcomings is likely to do much. He is right(in his own mind anyhow), so you(we) must be wrong.
