I love Testman! That fucker has caused me more greif with IDS then I care to admit. One little trick I have found is too just drag the testman error screen out of the way and continue to do whatever it is your doing then click it and restart IDS. It never falls to pop up when your in the middle of programming and back in the day I remember lots of blanked pcms over that shit. I just dont understand how they can not get that software to work worth a damn, or maybe I should say stop screwing with it as it seems every update it gets more finiky.

Self Inflicted Aggravation
DieselD replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Dont feel so bad keith I have done they very same thing! I am always very careful when plugging in that crappy PCM connector cause well they suck. Someone I managed to bend a pin but not near as bad as your pic. Mine actually ran until it got hot and decided to quit until it cooled off. That was a stumper. -
Well then this is my plan for it, this is for my personal truck and I got the idea from seeing all the 650s-750s in the shop with the same dash. They come black but you can paint to match without issues. Since my 2001 does not have a wonderful idea of upfitter switchs I can swap this panel in and cut up as I see fit, if I need to return it back to stock I have the orginal panel. Makes a good place for switchs, airbag guages etc.

2008 F450 Radio Backlight Flicker
DieselD replied to DieselD's topic in Body, Chassis and Electrical
entering As Built fixed it, I did the PMI install on it when I replaced it however obviously that didnt do crap to bring the old info into the new module....Would have been nice if hotline could have mentioned that rather then sending me on a wild goose chase playing musical module swap! Thanks again Josh for the mention of AS built! -
2008 F450 Radio Backlight Flicker
DieselD replied to DieselD's topic in Body, Chassis and Electrical
Josh, No I never programed as built into the ACM, I have never actually done so with the ACM, I just swapped out a radio on a 2011 and all was well. Then again I was not looking for backlighting issues on it either. I will attempt to do so and go from there -
We see that all the time out here. I almost always sell a harness if I am doing engine work on a e-van ambo or people hauler. These are pretty low miles too..30-40k but our ambient during the summer is from 110-120 degrees

Yes, I have had cracked cylinder walls before. I had a truck that would build coolant system pressure abnormally fast at idle. Figuring it had a severe headgasket failure/and or leaky coolers I yanked it apart. The coolers where not blown(first clue) then looking at the headgaskets I saw no obvious signs of leaks knowing that there had to be another issue. I found a hairline crack on cyl 1 about midway down the wall maybe 3" long. Another clue was looking at the top of the piston I could see the spray pattern of combustion loss. At first glance I didnt see it, get the holes clean and look at it closely for anything abnormal, I bet you find something

I have a awesome one here that has been giving me the run around. I replaced the radio a few weeks ago for the typical 6 disc cd player malfunction and now its back with the radio backlight flickering when the headlights are on. Now I do not know if this was something new or was present before the last radio repair. This only happens when the headlights are on(no auto lamps) and the dimmer switch is partially dim. If its full bright or full dim they do not flicker. At first getting a little brave and doing what we all do I assumed that the replacement radio I installed was crap, hey it wouldnt be the first time. I ordered and slammed a new one in, oops. That didnt fix it, better diag this. Anyway I have swapped SJBs and dimmer switchs per hotline, no change. I think I am going to swap another radio just to rule out the chance of getting the wrong radio in the first place(the second was ordered off the last part number we put in the first time) Anyone had anything similar? Any issues with wiring behind the dash I should be aware of? As much as I hate it next step is to get the ol headlight bulb test light out.... should I mention its less then 200miles before 3/36 is up?

Here's just what we need...
DieselD replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
isnt the internet great? bad press spreads so much easier then good.... Its a machine and out of the countless trucks being sold and on the road some are bound to break. I really wish people would just educate themselves a bit before running their mouth about something they really dont know anything about -
Glad Im not the only one that took one look at that disaster and said "fuck me" I really dont understand the need to over complicate that system. I like the idea of breaking it down to a few more sections but this is far too much and it isolates everything too much. I cant say how many times I have come accross TSBs/SSMs that are not exactly what the concern is(read: customer complaint being wrong)or TSBs that dont "technically" apply but the concern/build dates are close enough to suspect the same problem.

what about doing a blank path with a 2001 or newer tear tag? but yeah to answer your question your going to need a sofware change to make it right
-
I have been victim of a situation just like this in the past too, What it ended up coming down to was the other tech that came in was buddys with one of the service managers so they booted me to get a place for him. At the time I had been with the company for 6.5years and they supported my ASSET training early on too. They fact that I did my job well and effeciently did not matter. Thats ok though as in the end it worked out 10times for me(read several dollars an hour more)then sticking with them.

whats the build date on this truck? early?
-
good point keith, I might just do that. bulletproof is local to me by about 45miles so I can just hual them in, by that time I might have a truck load.

I think a Chiropractor is needed to keep our bodys in shape with the type of work we do. I agree its a bit scary at first and you need to find a good one. I typically try to get in once a month or so and it makes all the difference for me. I have had days I it hurts to even get out of bed from a nerve in my lower back. I remember a particular day I R+I 4 cooling modules by myself out of 6.0 e-vans all in a row, That killed my weekend as I was hobbling around barely able to move afterwards.

Are they still buying these? I have about 30 or more of these things
-
I have heard this statement before but I find it VERY hard to buy into. There are far less 6.4s on the road then the 7.3 or 6.0. plus when a 6.4 fails its takes everything including the kitchen sink into the pits of hell with it. You cant tell me a warrenty cost is cheaper on a 6.4 then anything else.

Snap on 10mm 6.4L Turbo socket
DieselD replied to Coolcat390's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
whats even better is if the truck will run...get it warm, spray it and let it cool. Makes life 10times easier. I have only used my socket a couple times and have not had a issue "yet" -
Depends on the type of job, seems there are always a job for a diesel guy at a dealer. I have had a couple offers to switch but each one was lower in pay and the facility was not as nice. I am on the lookout to get away from a dealer all together. I am honestly getting a little tired of the drama and bs we have to go through as a tech to get paid for a repair that we bust our ass to do right.
-
I ended up shipping the truck after never getting it to act up again. Its been about a week and a half and 300miles, no issues return. crossing my fingers I got it with a conenctor disconnect/reconnect
-
I would be heading up the chain of command on that BS right there... ...or slash her tires at lunch better yet find a nice little sensor to unplug before she heads home for the day.....better if she drives a ford and you pull the job to repair it
-
We do claims on cummins and cat engine in the f650s and its the same way. rapidserve pays waaaaaay worse then ford does. Yes we have it good compared to others but you have to wonder if ford looks at the competition and gets bright ideas on how to run their claims through based on what everyone else is doing? scary thought.

Who Makes the best Tool Box?
DieselD replied to ChristopherH's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
Im partial to snapon boxes as well. They just always seem to be the cleanest and well put together compared to everyone else. Also hold the highest trade in/resale value. My first double bank I picked up for 800bucks out of a body shop. It was straight and not banged up but it was covered in all kinds of crap you would expect to be on the floor of a body shop. I took it apart and hosed it out, brake cleaned it from top to bottom and tossed a coat of wax on it and was good to go. I used it about 6 years and was out growing it fast. I told my dealer to keep an eye out for deals. I ended up with a KRL 3 bank brand new for 4500bucks. Snapon had an overstock of that particular unit in black only. could not choose options or color but it was pretty much what I wanted so no big deal. I forgot what retail was but it was alot higher then what I paid. They had some cash back deals going on at the time too so I ended up with vouchers for free tools I could have traded in my 800 snap on for like 2k credit but I opted to take it home as once you have a nice tool box you just cant go back. I had my dealer warranty all my slides too so its like brand new again. Bottom line is be patient and look for deals. Dont ever pay retail on a box -
This week is LCFs galore!
