  1. I have had a few come in after other techs have worked on them with the 2 8mm bolts that attach the branch tube loose. Never had a nut loose on the pump side though
  2. Its a hard choice I know but once you take the plunge you will wonder why you didnt do it sooner!
  3. Digging this up from the grave. I am on the other side of the table now and its quite odd. One of our trucks in the fleet has this very same problem and of course the dealer its at is saying its a cp job. I understand the system but it really blows to have done all the maintenance (docs to prove it) including draining the water separator occasionally and have this happen. Even with that I probably have no footing with ford on this issue and I will be driving to NM to inspect the vehicle for myself. If I can not get it covered under warranty I am pulling the truck back to AZ and doing the repair myself.
  4. I ended up selling mine to Bullet proof about 2 months ago now. I walked out of there just shy of 200bucks
  5. Word from My Ford rep is this is a known concern and under investigation. He took all the info from our past turbo failures and forwarded it to engineering. Word on the street is we will see a TSB regarding this concern in the future. just a little fyi for you guys
  6. I have done one with just the turbo off and cab on with trans in(turbo was off for another reason) and it was surprising easier then I thought it was going to be. I found that running the engine then lubing up the pipe bolts then letting it cool was the ticket compared to having to torch the things. But then again AZ does not have rust issues

    CP Diag

For us out here in AZ its always been about 1.0-1.5hrs at the most. Once in a while if we had a real pita to diag we could swing selling more time but it was rare. You had better be on your game with a 6.0 diag to make it with a CP job As for backflags I have had more lost dollars due to management getting involved and jewing me out of justified labor time it was not even funny. One of the biggest reasons I left and the best part is they dont understand why all their good techs where leaving them
  8. So anyone starting to see a trend of turbo failures on the chassis cab trucks? I now have 3 trucks that have gone down with a turbo failure in my fleet. They all have between 20-40k on them. When I was at the dealer I had the empire truck(thread is in this section) it had a past turbo failure and when it was in my bay for the valve concern it had another turbo dead. Seems the bushings are taking a shit and the vanes are hitting the housing which is obviously exploding at that point. I have not heard of any issues with the regular pickups only the chassis cab which I guess is good and bad. I assume there might be a trend developing with the changes the chassis cab trucks have engine wise. whats the news on the grapevine?
  9. I delt with them when I was at a dealer but mainly cummins engines. They where not known to be shipped with all the parts on them in working order to say the least
  10. welcome to about 4 months ago. I ran into this as well and thought it was total BS. For YEARS it was always "replace" the intake gaskets then all of a sudden its "reuse" them. and yes ford will bounce the claim if you charge intake gaskets on it
  11. I had to read the WSM twice when I did mine. It does say to use a impact on the body bolts. When I did mine I broke them free by hand then gave it hell with my impact. No issues and they came right out much easier then the 6.4 cabs. However Im in AZ so no rust here!!
  12. "but they told me its the same as a motorcraft filter just a different name on the side!"
  13. They better support the original VCM for a while or I will be ramming it up someones ass at rotunda
  14. I wanted to go to Sema this year, had tickets and everything. Instead I got stuck driving to El Paso TX this week to deliver a new truck and fix a broken 6.0 to drive back home. Which was Sooo much better then Sema!
  15. I love that shit. I have had it happen to me several times. Even better is when you diag it and quote them for it only to have them second guess, tell their other buddy which in turn calls you and tries to argue with you about the repair which the guy has no clue on whats going on just "he read on the internet" I just tell them to take it somewhere else if they dont trust me to work on their truck correctly.
  16. Some of you guys remember my last shop. Here is a preview on my new one! Some think I'm crazy in the head for giving up working at my last place with how nice the shop was. If you could call them bays I have a pto system leak on a tire truck and a coolant leak on a 5.4 stupid metal hardline under the intake is leaking
  17. The E-series is also supposed to be canceled. Its replacement? a fullsize transit!
  18. You thought ford warranty had you by the balls? Just wait until you start working on those cummins motors and deal with rapidserve I always steered clear of those things....
  19. I just saw this today and I said some very profound things out loud as I read it.... I just bought my VCM about a month ago, have not even hooked it up yet. I think Jim called it with the subscription change leading to a possible VCM change. Typical my luck!!!
  20. Im interested in this for the non ford vehicles in my fleet. Its cheap enough I think it will benefit being able to look at the basics on the non fords. let me know how it works for you
  21. Move to AZ! I just wear a long sleeve uniform shirt and if your working thats plenty warm. Standing around doing nothing is another story though
  22. Nothing in my bays now feels pretty damn good but a odd feeling!!..... actually at the moment my makeshift bays consist of two trucks, one getting shocks, steering stuff, prndl, airbox and some mild welding. the other is a newly built 2011 I need to apply decals and a license plate to put into service I will take some pics of my "new" shop compared to my "old" shop. It might make some of you guys go WTF how could you leave that!
  23. yeah I have replaced way more gpcm modules then the simple relay setup
  24. no kidding...It typically takes longer to take those lousy disconnects then just do it at the cooler itself
  25. That sounds like its more complicated then it needs to be.
