Do People realy buy old WDS units?

No problem on reporting back, hope to save someone else the frustration I had to endure!

Figured it out...Pin 24 on the pcm was tweeked so it was not going into the female section of the pin on the connector but hitting just above it. Only one pin and only that circuit. What are the chances?! Who knows how that managed to get that way. I did have that connector unplugged for the cab removal as I do on countless others. I remember no issues going back in. Lucky me I guess!

Yeah bruce the voltage drop has crossed my mind however this thing has to be smoking hot to act up so doing anything under the hood is a huge bitch with it this hot. I have already gone home with burnt hands from this POS. Of course the 4pin connector is 2inches away from a 5 thousand degree turbo so doing anything with that is almost impossible. This gives me some ideas keith and bruce. Ill work on it some today and monday. Thinking about taking the PCM out and baking the bitch to see if I can recreate the concern to check that off the list.

Yep sounds like a 6.0 huh? Well this one is much more of a headache. Im on hold with hotline as we speak so figured I would post this question here. 2008 6.4, 71k miles. 3729hrs. Its an electrical boom truck which is a huge pita to get the cab up! First I got this in a couple weeks ago for a knocking/popping noise. Of course its a broken rocker arm and lifter. yank the cab which SUCKED! 5million wires and no bulkhead connector in sight! anyway got that all fixed and up and running. Ran great up until the time I went to move it out of my bay and it would not start. P0001 Fuel Volume regulator control circuit open. Funny thing the engine cools down and it will restart without issue. After messing with it I could isolate it to running about 45mins to 1hr outside(temps around 105-110*) with the hood shut. First it starts to run erratic and then will die. Will not restart for about 15-20min after the engine cools a bit and it will fire right up. If trying to bring this in the shop which is about 85 degrees it drops my diag time down to about 10mins before it fixes itself. Followed the pinpoint test. No shorted wiring or any of that bs. led to a pump replacement and hotline agreed. Now after lots of headaches going back into this trud for the second time The pump didnt fix crap. I also changed the pump gasket and checked the jumper harness. Same problem remains without change. Hotline is stumped and so am I. Anyone run into a similar issue?

6.0 loosing high oil pressure after egr cooler rep
DieselD replied to jbarnett31's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
first of all ALWAYS change the oil when doing one of these repairs. next It sure sounds like you introduced debris into passage for the hpop and its getting into your IPR. Pull the valve and check it. if its got a damaged screen you have debris from your oil cooler repair. you might be able to clear it by cranking it long enough with the valve out to pump the passage clean. If not you will need to pull the cooler again and get down in there to suck all the crap out. -
Evans Waterless Coolant
DieselD replied to Keith Browning's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
funny, this same topic just came up at the shop the other day. Same boat as you keith..... -
no diesel in that thing, just a little ol 4 banger I run at redline...Ive thought about building one with the 7.3 motor sitting in my garage however it would be waaaay to heavy windshield is now gone after the last roll. Had to cut and sleave sections of bent cage to repair. That was a HARD hit from about 15ft straight down onto the a-piller on a sharp jagged rock, in the rain around midnight. That was a loooong night. I have a new found respect for my welding ability now after that.

feel your pain brother! I cant imagine landrovers being that much easier to work on though
-
oh the trash in the IPR after cooler repair cracks me up. I make damn sure the valley is clean before taking the cooler out. I watched a guy replace 4 IPRs before figuring out what was up. oh by the way my problem child is gone. I lucked out and skated out of that mess.

Turbo Overboost Code with new calibration
DieselD replied to fordtech03's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Ive been getting this too without being able to catch it. It reminds me of the good old 2003 6.0 release when everything was setting a MIL. soon after the programming was dumbed up a bit to prevent particular DTCs from setting a MIL. Seems we might be heading back in that direction. I did have one with an overboost that the actual unison ring stuck full bore on once it got hot. 115* ambient temp with me hammering on the truck for about 10miles -
oil gets changed, its part of the tsb. I do this on cp as well since like mentioned if your in it for engine work its always a good idea to change it.

those are more of the prices Ive been seeing

back in the day(2003) you where instructed to cut the shroud. It was in the WSM as such. I did one accordingly and after I was dont I felt bad cause it looked like shit(I made it neat) but still. I would be pissed if a tech did that to my truck. shortly after I figured out how to get the shroud out without cutting. very easy and the standard practice we all use now

ah sorry for not searching. I think I remember this back then now that the link is posted. damn short term memory apparently!
-
I find it more then an excuse. the larger pumps/covers are fixing the issue. I install more covers on 04+ trucks then I do on 2003 anyway. gotta figure it was a short year and not all of them have pump failures so how could an intentional design flaw to "sell excess covers?" be profitable? Its something to do with the replacement water pump. by hand it feels fine, no binding issues etc. but once it runs and gets some heatcycles the plastic impeller breaks off the shaft. almost like it had contact with the cover and broke it. maybe it was a change in supplier? someone speced the size wrong? who knows. All I know is the larger cover and pump takes care of the issue.
-
I have run into this several times in the past. If I have a waterpump failure on an 2003 I sell a front cover too. EVERY one Ive not done this to has been back in a few days with another pump failure. Before we or ford knew what was going on we would spw the part and sure enough it would be back yet again. several times of this and hotline requests finally lead into the updated cover and pump from the later model year to correct the issue. There used to be a ssm or tsb a while back but I have not been able to find it. If you do a hotline request they typically give you the same answer and part number So yes on a 2003 I suggest running the later cover and pump.

I did one of these the other week, had to order it and down the truck for 4-5days for a lousy tsb when we have ficms in stock. Try telling that one to one of your biggest/best fleet customers that needs the truck asap. I wish they would really gear up before releasing these tsbs telling us to do a particular repair yet not have any parts. IIRC the halfshell was cheaper then the ficm

7.3 powerstroke injector cancel box
DieselD replied to jbarnett31's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
Ah yes I forgot about getting that connector. I think I got lucky and had one floating around the shop. you should be able to hit a pick and pull yard and find a wrecked truck to cut one from -
check out these guys http://www.bulletproofdiesel.com/Articles.asp?ID=146 Ive seen the egr coolers and they are pretty damn beef. I know a guy that uses these quite often and has had nothing but good luck with them. If I remember correctly they are about the same cost as stock

7.3 powerstroke injector cancel box
DieselD replied to jbarnett31's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
build one. its insanely easy. built mine years ago and comes in handy alot -
I kept running the test in hopes I get get them to even think about clicking. I have had trucks in the past though sound like they got better the more times you run the test. not so on this turd. I cant convince the guy this is his problem and tells me its not "logical" with how and why it happened. Whats happening is the dude is asking other people and they are giving him the normal 6.0 issue answers which obviously this one is not normal. I'm 2 seconds from telling him ok then the "logical" answer then is to show up with a wrecker and tow it away.
-
Spare times seems like a harder thing to come by now days. If its not normal day job work its side work to make up lost wages from the previous crappy weeks. My rock crawler keep sme busy with metal fabrication or repairs after a long weekend of wheeling. hitting up the sand dunes on the quad in the winter is always a blast. pretty much camping that involves rockcrawling or quads takes up my spare time. Im an avid shooter as well.

sold several here, cant keep them on the lot tpyically. Lots of them sold before they even roll off the transport. My dad got one about a week ago. ended up being a very early build do. Im crossing my fingers its not a pile, I will NEVER hear the end of it if it is!! I did see in our history it had a gpcm installed for a check engine light at 400miles(sold at 600 miles) He puts anywhere from 1-3k miles on a month, lots of towing and hauling as well. He is taking it for a 1k roadtrip the end of the week so it will be a good test to see how it does. already says he is getting about 22mpg on the DTE but has only filled it once. His 2004 6.0 ran 18mpg unloaded on the highway with 165k miles. He did say he has seen the cluster flash cleaning dpf a couple times very quick then it will turn off, no notice in power loss of change in how its driving so not sure if thats a normal thing yet. Im glad I get to have first hand feedback with someone that owns one but so far I have yet to hear much bad feedback with them yet. most customers love them
