  1. just wondering what you guys come up with for a labour time for a short block in a 2004 f-350,they are paying me 17.9 hours, what labour codes can I use to get more out of this job?
  2. I had one that was a bad valve seat on #5,lower compression, did a leak down test and got air out the exhaust, but if the injector or injectors are leaking could have a bent rod, your start up noise could be the timming chain tensioners,I think the phasers are locked till it it hits a set oil temp?
  3. I like that alot, I as well will hang that up at work
  4. about time, when did the price of the sensor hit the floor, up in canada we do not have full details, what are you to inspect
  5. just had one today, truck did not want to heat up and coolant and oil are sitting at 150, its droping down to about -25 at night now,I think ther will be more to come
  6. the other diesel tech has one doing the same thing, long crank on a 03,same thing we did not think it was that bad,but he had codes for the cam sensor so he went to pull it out to try a new one,he could not get it out and it broke off in the block, you can move it back and fourth but it is like the head is mushroomed,so the cam pin can slide out? if so that suck's
  7. why didn't they make the mounts for the new super duty like the new f-150? would have been sweet if they did,do you guys get in shit for lifting cabs on"forbidden units" I like that forbidden units
  8. we got a 4x torque multiplier from a truck shop,we did not have a holding tool so I made one out of a part of a broken leaf spring, I looked one up on snap on and there only around $500 that's not too bad?
  9. how do you do that job in 1 hour,do you guys take the turbo off? or can you keep it on and just take off that part from the oil cooler?
  10. working on a f-550,puting in a new rear end and I had to swap the pinion yokes, what do you guys use the hold the yoke so that you can torque it to the 832 ft/pound that it wants?
  11. in Canada last year they gave us power stroke jackets, same thing it took about 3 months to get the jacket
  12. this weak I had a 2001 7.3 with a bad glow plug that did not want to come out,a 1999 e450 with 750 000 km engine job and then alot of oil and filters and inspections, alot of trucks came in for winter maint. but they give that stuff to anyone
  13. why did they make a new tsb, they should have just kept it in the overflow tsb 07-21-5, everone is different some take along time to flush and some don't take as long, maybe they have a new and improved vc1 that is now fast acting and will eat the oil sludge away, just kidding, does anyone use that stuff?
  14. thanks for the info,I am doing what Jim said,I will set a time and then go for the head, what can you do,thanks again
  15. we have only 4 truck with higher km,but they say better fuel econmy and better power,if I had the money and a good reason to, I think a would buy one
  16. got the thing loose, will not pull thru, removed the injector and used a borescope, droped the plug in the cylinder, used a magnet and I can get a hold of it just can't pull it thru the hole,if I removed the injector cup would that give me more room?
  17. it is a 2001 7.3 and it broke like a 5.4 3v spark plug, do you guys have any tricks to get broken glow plugs out without taking the head off,I tried vise grips and a slide hammer on the little bit that is sticking out,it is on #5 I am letting it soak in juice overnight but I think that I will just have to take the head off
  18. thanks for the good info, they took the truck but I know it will back soon, maybe I will try another injector when it comes back, got to love the junkyard engines
  19. It just has what I would call slight rough idle, good power, the perdelta pid is at 0% all the time, did not try it in drive,I have ran the test 2-3 time and #1 is coming up,have you had a new injector fail?(it is a for injector) this is the first 7.3 injector I have ever replaced, most of the work I do is 6.0
  20. the truck I am working on will flag #1,but when I go to the pids it does not show that any are weak,I have used it at idle and hot,is there any reason that it would not work now, this truck is a bit of a long story, about six months ago I use perdelta to fine that #4 was weak, they drove the truck thru a river and bent a rod, they got me to put a junkyard engine into it and now it is back, the uvc harness was loose,I had buzz codes for #1 #5 #7 high low and it flaged 1# and #7 on contribution, replaced the uvc, idm and #1 and #7 injector, now the only code I have is #1 contribution,I have put fuel additive in the fuel bowl, ipr % is 8-9%,did compression test all at about 400 psi, still working on it not to sure what they want to do with it,it is a junkyard engine so you don't know what you got,oh well
  21. I am trying to use the perdelta pids on a 1999 f-350,they just show 0%,I had it working before but now it is not working, I don't get it? can somebody shed some light
  22. we have see 3 or 4 in the last 2 months(most on 2005),truck will not start, ipr will be at 84% and icp will be at 20 psi or something very low, last one we had all it took was to hit it like a starter and they the truck starts to build icp and then starts,is this something you guys see alot of ? we don't do a shit load of diesel so to me this seems odd
