Jim? Was reading a post on another board about high gas prices. A reader from your neck-o-the-woods mentioned that Canadians pay 48% income tax PLUS 15% sales tax on EVERYTHING? Any truth to that? Guess you would HAVE to make 100K a year to be able to eat... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/poke.gif

Warranty extension on 6.0?
ktmlew replied to G. Bedford's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I predicted this more than two years ago...the very thought of it sent me running away from Ford. Have ZERO interest in working for warranty time on a permanent basis... -
Just went to work at a shop that services 99-03 Ford F350 ambulances. Would like to be able to do some studing at home on the different wiring systems I may need to work on. Any good info available on the net? Had one Friday that had a problem with the left low beam headlight that kicked my butt for awhile but finally figured it out. We do have the manuals from the builder which is Aveo or something along that line?

Jim...take a gander at what they are offering for pay in the states by looking at the "Jobs" forum... You and I are cut from the same cloth but we just can't get paid here. If I could EARN 30+ an hour then I could AFFORD to do all the things we "should" be doing...actually I was doing all the above and the GM decided I was spending too much time on the computer and took out the wireless router and decreed "no laptops"...SM offered me $500.00 for my 3 week old $1150.00 one. I left them shortly after and I was the only diesel tech that new they didn't have spark plugs...just started at an independant this week that services Ambulances. Not sure I'm going to make it though. Spent too long sitting around...it's tough to get old bones moving again. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

Don't suppose you worked at Wakefield Ford? I was their diesel tech from Jan of 02 to summer of 03. Guess I left at about the right time? Last I heard they were about to fold as they had "flushed" all the business away. Had the opportunity to go back to work there last summer but decided I didn't want to get back into that rat race...to damn much traffic for me. I agree that most of the above is a wallet flush except for the BG trans & PS machine. It was mentioned to me at an interview earlier this week that if we maintained cars 25-30 years ago like we do now they probably would have lasted twice as long. When I was growing up at my dads little car lot we regularly junked cars with over 75K miles if the trans was bad. The engines wouldn't make it much past 110K, so? Most anything you buy now, if you do a 30K every 30K, will last 300K with no problem. The idea is to get the cars IN the bay BEFORE they blow up due to whatever fluid is leaking...this is how Toyota & Honda are kicking the US maufactures bootie as they train the buyers to keep coming back even when the car has over 100K on it. If you get the cars "serviced" regularly you will usually avoid the major wallet killing repairs plus the manufacturer may help with the cost of a major failure for a regular customer. Know for a fact Toyota will. So is a brake fluid flush a rip-off? If sold to "fix' a check engine light yes...but what about when fixing an ABS problem and the vehicle has 70K on the clock and the fluid looks like 3 day old coffee? Where is the "line"?

Actually if all they need is a series of flashes that will be a relief.

IMO we were spoiled by the 6.0L rocket. The difference in seat-of-the-pants performance from the 7.3 to 6.0L was huge. Maybe they learned something? I suspect you will see ANY 6.4L that is chipped and brought in for repair WILL be kicked to the curb by Ford. Can't believe they don't have the capability built into the ECM to "see" it's been tampered with. It won't be up to the dealership to decide who gets a repair unless the dealer wants to pay for it them selves. I'm all for it! YOU PLAY...YOU PAY!!!
-
For the guys that scream that isn't fair, as they OWN the truck, I would disagree. They bought the truck but Ford is paying for any repairs to the engine for 5 years and 100K. You play you pay!!! :hammer:

http://www.flatratetech.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=27355 Quote: [Mark Ward] 2008 F-SUPER DUTY - 6.4L DIESEL - INJECTOR CIRCUIT OPEN CODE(S) (P0201-P0208) WITH A MISFIRE/ROUGH RUNNING/LACK OF POWER CONDITION Quote: [Mark Ward] 2008 F-SUPER DUTY 6.4L DI - MIL P132B Quote: [Dealertech623] Our first one would puke coolant out the over flow bottle when you reved it up a bit. Much looking with little result ended up with a Navistar engineer coming to the store to have a look. Took the front end apart one piece at a time til we found it. The front cover was mis-cast and one of the coolant passages was completely blocked. New cover and it was good to go.

I Fianlly Got It to Act Up
ktmlew replied to Tony302600's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I don't like the ICP & IPR readings. Look like "static" instead of being a clean reading? I would replace ICP & IPR connectors and re-test. http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/forums/user_files/11-buckjerk1.JPG In the above graph several readings "flat-line". Is that when the problem actually occurred? -
I feel any of the flushes should be used on a case-by-case basis. I don't have a problem with using the PS flush station, like when replacing a pump or rack on a car or van, etc. The coolant flush machine IMO is a piece of crap, as it always made a huge mess and didn't show me anything got "flushed" but the customers wallet. I DO like the BG trans machine. Have also seen a bunch of "notchy" shifting vehicles that were much improved by the flush. As for any "FI" flush...case-by-case...it kills me to drive by all these chain stores with a sign out front advertising improved mileage by getting the injectors flushed. I HAVE fixed some gas vehicles with a FI flush but I can count them on one hand.

Did you pull the EGR and inspect it again? If clean now, run the EGR test and see if it passes. I would run it several times for that matter...

My biggest !@#!?$! with the 6.0L is the wiring harness design. What were they thinking and who did the buy the connectors from ACME? You remember ACME from the Roadrunner cartoons? Great quality! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/poke.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hitthefan.gif

I have gotten in the habit of checking & correcting the oil level, then with a hot engine pull the oil cap off and stand up on the throttle while looking thru the gap between the hood and cowl. If it looks like a steam engine out he oil filler then it's dusted. You then pull the intake hose to the turbo and snap a pic of the turbo to show the customer...

OK. I haven't had one leak there. Good to know. I really like using dye so there is no doubt where it is coming from even if you do have to remove some parts to be completely certain.

I've always used this kit. Reseal all three ports at the same time. That plug leaking is fairly common on vans. HP oil pump fitting o-rings--Package of 3 for 98.5-03 2C3Z-9G804-AA

Here's one for ya...had this sent to me today. Quote: When my husband and I arrived at an automobile dealership to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the drivers side door. As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. "Hey," I announced to the technician, "its open!" His reply, "I know - I already got that side." This was at the CHEVY dealership in Canton ,Mississippi !

I certainly didn't mean any of my comments as being negative towards the way things are done in Canada. The problem here is that we DON'T train and certify tech's like they do in your country. I have never been the fastest guy in any shop, but I'll bet you I had the least comebacks! That came directly from my father. His motto was take as long as it takes to do it right the first time long before Ford thought of that phrase. We don't get paid for doing it right, but will damn sure get chewed out and/or back-flagged if it comes back. My integrity equires me to take the time to make sure it DOESN"T come back. That means my paycheck dropped by 30% or more from summer of 03 to summer of 05...the 6.0L put me out of the business. That plus ignorant management...
-
This just amazes me! Here we are strongly encouraged to "work faster" or "work more hrs (6 day weeks required to live)" if we come up short due to poor warranty times...
-
...annnnnd...another one bites the dust...amazing the difference in management's attitude in the US vs Kanada? Guess if a shop is doing mostly CP, everyone has reason to be happy... As for finding something in the aftermarket forget working at any shop that has a name on the sign that you recognize, Pep Boys, AAA, Goodyear, Firestone, Midas etc, unless you are comfortable being a flush queen. Been there, done that, couldn't do it in good conscience. A fleet/city/county job is about the only option, IMO...

When I worked in Easley SC summer of 05 it was around 85-90% warranty. The other diesel tech was doing about 70% customer pay 7.3 work while I got almost all the 6.0L. Decided it wasn't worth it for me.
