I can't believe you guys fool around with trying to fix these engines if Ford is paying the bills. I won't even change a cam if Ford is paying. Time is money, and I don't get rewarded for trying to save a buck for someone else. They are all ticking time bombs, and I refuse to be held responsible when it undoubtably blows up again. Enhanced short block, no question.

I use our shop's Miller gas welder and it works ok, but there are times I will bring my Clarke 110v fluxcore welder from home. I find the Clarke's gun is smaller allowing me to get into the more ignorant areas, plus being gasless I can get a better bite on studs that are below the surface. The gas welder doesn't seem to bite well if you don't has a good gas envelope. I can also put a gas bottle on my Clarke, and have used it to weld aluminum. If you want to weld anything big, the 110v welder will not cut it. That is what my 50 year old Forney stick welder is for, crude but effective. Also if buying an inexpensive mini mig, make sure you get one that that the trigger controls both the feed and power to the wire. The cheap ones with the constant live wire are a real PITA.

2000 f550 7.3l no start when cold (long)
mrbudge replied to nunan's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
PCM ground both relays to energize them. If I have one of these that won't start cold I take my little pocket screwdriver and short across the high current terminals on the glow plug relay (the short one), count 30 steamboats, and fire her up. Those relays are so crappy, even the ones with the gold base, that I would recommend changing them every fall. -
How many of you are using VCMII anyway? I am sticking with our old VCMs for as long as they still function. I am tired of being a Beta tester for Ford.

How about a 2008 f350 6.8, came in running poorly, lots of blowby, sounds bad cranking over, and has had two new exhaust mainfolds installed by someone. Only 40000 km, but over powertrain on time, so we get auth to start tearing down. My guy gets a cam cover off and finds fresh aluminum filings stuck on the inside? So we get the head off and take a good look, and there are holes drilled right through the exhaust manifold stud holes. I guess they stopped drilling when they hit the valve springs. So that explains the aluminum in the cam cover, but shouldn't make it run too bad. So we get at the other side, more holes drilled through the head on the oil side, flip the head over, and find a nice hole drilled right into number 10 cylinder, stopping at the exhaust valve. Aluminum is smeared all over the cylinder wall, I guess from the drill debris. So after all of this someone is buying a new longblock for this rig. This is a good case to explain why I only get broken studs out with the weld the nut on the stud method, although how do you drill that deep, not only one time, but six times! I will post some pics when I get to a computer that is less than 10 years old.

As seen on a YouTube comment- 'Arguing on the internet is like participating in the special olympics, even if you win you are still a retard.'

Simple test, does it smoke white while cranking but not starting? If you have smoke you have fuel. No smoke, no fuel.

False CHT Over Heat W/ Check Engine Light
mrbudge replied to Keith Browning's topic in All Gasoline Engines
I just had an F150 doing exactly the same thing. The parts cannon was being loaded up but I thought I should take a good look first. Found the CHT sensor wire worn through on the AC accumulator, and when the AC was on the accumulator would sweat and allow the wire to short to ground. I know that a Super Duty is layed out differently, but when weird shit starts to happen I am reluctant to call a module. It is so often a wiring problem. -
With a swimsuit model sitting on it, sure!

Hey, Contour/Mystique put food on a lot of tables. You could call them the car version of the 6.0/6.4 diesel.

Was the guy in the video drunk?

Our local (Winnipeg) training center has lost it's full time instructor, now instructors come in as required to put on courses as required, which is not very often. The reason given for all of this was lack of demand. The problem the way I see it is any new hires are required to take massive amounts of training just to become eligible to go to a classroom course, then are waitlisted forever to get to the classroom. Unfortunately, most new hires, which are usually kids right out of school, are not that interested in going to school, and why would you when you can make more money with less headaches (warranty) at practially any other shop. I don't have an answer to this problem, but I suspect a complete cultural change is going to be part of the solution.

You mean Red Tek won't cut it?

There is a new show on Discovery called Bomb Hunters. I haven't seen it yet, but I think it is about a bunch of guys with modded up 6.0 liters waiting for them to go boom, just like the guys on that forum. Thanks for reminding me why I never go on public forums.

And make sure no one removed the balancer to pull the engine, then stuck it back on for you to be surprised later.

You should see Sabine Schmitz go around the Nurburgring in one, a diesel yet. twbrit.com/.../the-nurburgring-and-top-gears-respect-for-sabine-schmitz/

Thanks, I feel better now.

Pull the dash, don't be a hack. It isn't hard, sort of like doing a cab lift. Looks intense, but really no big deal. And at the end of the day everything will work.

Tuners and PCM update compatibilty
mrbudge replied to lmorris's topic in Upgrade and Aftermarket Equipment
Funny how everyone has money for tuners, but noone has money for head gasgets. (Read stopleak for headgasget repair thread). Maybe because tuners make your penis bigger? -
Soak up the heat, in five months it could be -35.

Electricity doesn't come from fossil fuel, it comes from the wall.

We have been putting warranty long blocks in these things. Ford has rewarded us by making us get prior approval for gas engines.

Expedition Tranny
mrbudge replied to Bruce Amacker's topic in Driveline: Transmissions, Clutches and Axles
I know it is a 2wd, but is there a 4wd low pid? I had one that the pcm thought it was in 4low and modified the shift schedule accordingly, but it was a 2wd. -
Yeah, they don't give you the T4 for the wholesale price of anything. all retail baby. I won a 17 inch Macbook Pro, and my wife won a Coach purse at Summit this year. Can't wait for the T4 for that. Anyone want to buy a Macbook Pro, still in the box?
