  1. Congrats, what program was that for? Watch out for a T4 in the mail.
  2. The easiest way to make yourself look good is to make someone else look bad, ask any politician. But speaking of sterotypes, what type of person typically "becomes" a mechanic? (I think you are born a mechanic, you can't be taught mechanical aptitude.) It must be anyone who is not smart enough to get a real career, like an engineer. Therefore all mechanics must idiots, in the public's mind. Throwing someone under the bus to make ourselves look good ultimately makes us all look bad and re-enforces the sterotype. I doubt you would hear one engineer say that one of his collegues is an idiot because the bridge he designed fell down.
  3. I have seen engine failures on Roushcharger equipped vehicles that have been re-flashed with the stock calibration by accident. I pull the pcm flash enable wire out of the dlc and tape it back into the harness to prevent writing over the aftermarket program. I also write on the pcm "do not re-flash" in black sharpie.
  4. As long as the broken bolt is in a blind hole weld on a nut with a mig and turn it out. If you are not good with a mig, practice! Make sure the end of the broken bolt is clean, no one is good enough to weld dirt or rust. I had a set of bolt extractors, and I threw them in the garbage. Welding on the end of the broken bolt heat cycles it and helps it come out that much easier. Broken 6.0l and 6.4 manifold bolts are routine, as are aluminum head engines. On the tough ones I will spray the welded nut with your fluid or choice to cool and shrink it before turning it out. If the bolt is below the surface of the flange, build it up to the surface, then weld the nut on. I used to use a gasless mig, it seems if you can't get your gas to the bottom of the hole the weld won't bite as good, but now I just give her some extra gas flow and it works as good.
  5. Saw this on Fleet Ford. https://www.fleet.ford.com/ShowWhatsNewItem.asp?id=1099 I know you guys bleed diesel, but I can't see them developing a diesel for the NA Transit if you have to feed it that dirty Fort Mac fuel.
  6. So is this the same as when you go to the doctor and tell him it hurts when you pee. You don't tell him about the dirty hooker you banged last week. Didn't think it mattered.
  7. Tabernac! They didn't have the one they showed. We actually found 2 at a dealer in Puerto Rico. After considerable effort we got them here and are waiting for the customer to get his car out of storage and install them. Apparently the last 2 in North America.
  8. "Dry system, it's fuel injected and the injectors add more fuel." So what is the big thing with the four holes in it on the top of the engine? Too bad I have lost interest in cars. My son is riding me to get my 1981 Mustang 428 SCJ on the road. Do I have to?
  9. I have seen a number of different systems on vehicles create interference and wash out crank or cam signals, including interference from electric motors. The details are fuzzy, but I remember fixing one by putting a capacitor actoss the power and ground on the motor to act as a noise suppressor.
  10. Need an import, how about a VW Routan? Oh, sorry, peeled off the VW badge and found a Chrysler badge. I wonder how many people buy these things without knowing what they are?
  11. One of the guys here has a Contour GPS helmet mount camcorder. Records in 1080p and up to 60fps. The GPS feature is cool, it tracks where the shot was taken, as well as how fast you are going, so no lying about how fast your toy is.
  12. I think that if money is coming out of my pocket it is going in someone elses pocket, so a wage cut is out of the question. Get locked out, and enroll in EI sponsored job re-training. Manufacturing jobs in North America are going away, and will not likely come back. Time to get some marketable skills.

    Prices

Read an article about the factory in China where they make the rare earth magnets that we are finding everywhere these days, particularly in these wind turbines that are popping up everywhere, but also in automotive starter motors, heater motors, etc. I even found them holding the headliner of a Flex to the roof beams. The countryside around the factory was so polluted it made Sudbury look like a desert oasis. Money is one thing, but there are other costs involved with our dependence on our Chinese friends. I guess out of sight is out of mind. Is this thread officially hijacked yet?
  14. Thanks for reminding me why I don't read that trash. I guess the only good thing is at 500 hp it won't live long enough to see the roller lifters blow up.
  15. With that kind of mileage and a history of dust in the intake I would try running it with the pcv valve out. Crankcase fumes may be polluting the intake and messing with your fuel trims. You did check your fuel pressure?
  16. Hi Guys, customer has a minty old T-Bird SC, needs a LF strut, with automatic ride control. It is obsolete, no stocking dealers in Canada. If someone could check US dealers for me I would be forever grateful. Motorcraft number is AM 572 G. Thanks, Dave.
  17. There used to be an add for Alberta tourism on TV, people were driving their car in and ran out of gas, so they pushed it over the border into Alberta, stuck a pump in the ground and filled 'er up. Maybe you Alberta guys could try that.
  18. Yeah, and to top it off some assclown salesman would open the overhead door to my bay (it was closest to the service desk) so he could stand and talk to someone outside, usually when I was lying under a vehicle.
  19. Worked in a shop where water would freeze on the floor on a cold winter night.
  20. One day I am going to sew everyone's pockets shut.
  21. I have never seen one of those engines warp heads without a really good reason. If it was cooked that bad, the engine is scrap, IMHO. If you put it back together and the pistons rattle from collapsed skirts, along with the noisy cam chains, you are so married to it. Option 1 is ok as long as whoever is supplying it will stand behind it.
  22. Two 6.4s in a week with blown roller lifters, at least the 6.0l had enough sense to stop running when the LP pump grenades after digesting the needle bearings. On one there is so much of the bottom of the lifter missing that the pushrod fell into the valley. When the wicked popping from the intake started thats when someone finally figured something might be wrong.
  23. Educate? But I have been driving for years! (As told to me more times than I care to recall)
  24. I'm just like a steer, all I can do is try.
