  1. I had one today, 05 F350, customer installed a bullet proof egr cooler and oil cooler setup and ever since it's got a cyclical surge at 15-20 PSI. Since the concern he's cleaned the turbo and replaced the ficm harness You can see the surge in VGT, EBP and EGRDC but nothing in ICP. You can even see it in the boost gauge on the dash. Other than a roadtest with IDS I didn't get a chance to really play with it I don't know if it'll be back or not
  2. one head was out .015" and the other .013". they obviously can't be fixed, so now what? Surely I have no idea but something tells me the least desirable outcome is near possible outcomes in most favorable order 1. used engine 2. veh towed away with no engine 3. used cylinder heads 4. throw it back together and hope it atleast drives out of the parking lot
  3. well the explorer is outside without an engine, diaged a 10 mariner with a p0735, something is definitely wrong with 5th, it's coming out tomorrow
  4. The TSB only lists one unison ring part number for all model years. Who knows what the change was, I know one thing though, they sure are expensive enough
  5. Both of those 4.0 heads have .012" warp between the cylinders, when I set the straight edge down I about laughed my head off. The shortblock looks fine even with all the coolant in the oil. The heads are going off to the machine shop tomorrow, if they can be fixed it'll go back together, if not it's getting a used engine
  6. I did that one on that 2011 truck we discussed about in the past. It was bad for sure, they called it back and paid for it haven't really had any other new trucks in to look at.
  7. Yeah but as Mike stated most repeat failures seem to be with these "black onyx" gaskets
  8. apparently hypermax and these "black onyx" victor reinz gaskets are different. I wasn't aware until now that black onyx gaskets are still MLS gaskets just coated. I still wouldn't put either one on. The factory gaskets are not the problem
  9. I love this thing so far, as long as it holds the test of time it'll be the one modification that leaves its mark on me. It has perfect on road mannerisms and it's worked flawlessly so far no donuts, I like this truck too much
  10. unbelievable for someone like me who rarely sees 6.0L failures..... yet the failed lifter issue doesn't seem so rare. I still have to believe some kind of lack of maintenance is to blame (possible hours to miles discrepancy?)
  11. I have also read of these same repeat failures. I wouldn't be the one installing these gaskets If you're going with a coated head gasket why not use the tried and true copper spray? almost everywhere you go performance guys use copper spray on MLS gaskets but you never hear of it on 6.0s
  12. and you know damn well these guys aren't coming back in with deletes on when there's a drivability concern.
  13. That's good to know, at one time I did stumble upon that SSM for my model year
  14. I've actually had 2 customers turn down the 11B23 due to DPF deletes and custom programming. Wonder if ford gets suspicious when they see a RO generated after the recall and no action taken
  15. I fail to understand why anyone would authorize a teardown on a 4.0sohc that needs headgaskets
  16. you'll have to go aftermarket. I know alliant sells them AP0002
  17. Picked this baby up from summit for about $550 shipped. I found out fast the factory LSD leaves a lot to be desired, infact mine has never worked at all. With manual locking hubs I'm stuck in one wheel drive unless I get out of the truck with a pair of pliers in hand. I can't even tell you how many times I've been stuck in mud or snow when you wouldn't even think you'd need 4wd. Hopefully this solves some of the problem. I also picked up an 08+ aluminum cover. I'll throw this in one day this week
  18. the one I did was a meticulously maintained early build F550 utility truck. it ended up having turbo problems also
  19. the first dipstick took a while to figure out, they're cracking right at the bracket or sometimes rubbing on the horizontal cooler.
  20. hmmm lets see, that expedition with the bent rod had a EOT in the oil pan. guess who put the shortblock in with the pan it was shipped with. I got to the point of routing the harness before I realized I needed to swap pans oh yeah, it was 4wd too
  21. I didn't even know you could still get a crown vic (up until today), are they just fleet now?
  22. I can't remember what we're at now but every other update causes problems with 11B23s
