  1. There's no real need to on an F150 either, but it makes it way easier and faster.
  2. Long story short I bought an 05 Ranger with a junk motor. It's a supercab with a 4.0 in it. I was wondering if anyone has removed a cab to swap the motor?
  3. I got an 08 chevy cobalt with a blown up timing chain tensioner and I got to work this morning and found a towed in no start/ stalled while driving on a 15 F550. Fuel pressure codes. Drained the water seperator into a clean container. Smells like someone filled it up with E-85 instead of diesel.
  4. Is a full fuel system a cab on or cab off repair? I got a F550 that got filled up with E-85 and ran till it died on the side of the road. And of course it's got dual tanks.
  5. But now we all know the kit exists. I got lucky and found out before wasting $350 of someone else's money.
  6. If you look in the illustration they show a box around the 4 lifters and the guide. He never looked at the picture. Just punched in the basic for a lifter.
  7. Hmm. I was quoted 3C3Z-6500-AA at $35.41 each. I'll have to check into the other number.
  8. It's out. Still trying to talk him into $600 worth of lifters.
  9. And I've been lucky enough to always have good tool guys.
  10. I have never had a loan on a box yet. Other then 30 days interest free to get the $1000 rebate. Once I had the rebate it got payed off. I'm on my 3rd box. Got more in trade then I payed for either of the other 2. But this was also before I was married and had a house.
  11. Long story short my brother bought an 04 F-250 late build that was wrecked. Backed into twice by a cement truck in the left upper corner of the grille, pushed the cooler stack in some, but not far enough to push the fan into the radiator. I heard it run before he bought it, but not for more than about 30 seconds. (No coolant in it) Now it is sitting in his garage with the whole front end torn off and it keeps leaving puddles of engine oil. I can't tell where it's coming from, looks like it's coming out of the oil pan gasket and the bedplate gasket is leaking. He want's to yank it and reseal the thing since he's got the core support completely off. It's got somewhere between 200k and 250k on it, it fired up cleanly in 45 or 50 degree weather. I'm gonna plan on doing bedplate gaskets and head gaskets, and all of the other gaskets that come with going in that deep. I do want to look at the oil pump. Is there anything else that would be worth while doing other than the obvious oil cooler, egr cooler, and turbo cleaning? Wasn't there something about replacing the push rods cause the new ones will be shorter?
  12. I had very little voltage drop on that circuit when I checked it. Plus the guy swears it was in the bend by the front of the motor.
  13. Started out I was supposed to stop at my buddy's shop and take an 02 Superduty with a 7.3 for a ride, guy who owned it claimed it was running like crap. Got over there one night after work, found out truck is an absolute pile of crap (rotted to hell plow truck that sits all summer). Started out testing the glow plug relay cause they claim it starts like crap too. Relay has about 1 volt of drop. Took it for a ride and didn't notice anything too abnormal for the amount of miles on it. (263,000) Pulled it in the shop to test the glow plugs, all 8 test out with normal resistance. I had noticed a 3rd gear incorrect ratio code stored in it when I ran the self tests, but I couldn't find the trans_rat pids on my copy of AE. So when I went to put it back outside I grabbed the shop's OTC scanner and it had the trans_rat pid so I was gonna drive it and see if it had 3rd gear. When I went to start it up it wouldn't crank, and it wouldn't even click. I crawl underneath and find this big honking Denso starter hanging under there. The terminals were so rusty that I couldn't get a decent reading with my meter on the S wire. I had normal power at the connector by the blower motor, so I told them that it was either a starter or there was an issue with the S wire and that I didn't wanna try taking the wires off of the starter to test them cause they were so rusty that they were gonna break. Guy ended up coming and picking up his truck, I don't know if he towed it or managed to get it started. But he called back a week or so later all bent out of shape cause he's claiming that his main battery cable was broken where it bends by the front lower corner of the motor. He also claimed that a local Ford dealer had told him that it was very common for them to break at this location and in this fashion. I know it wasn't my dealer since the shop is more than a half hour away from it. I wasked my parts guy who's been there for something like 30 years and he's never heard of it either. I'm not loosing any sleep over it, but I'm just curious is this an actual concern or is this guy just that f*cked in the head?
  14. We can't access the server from our wireless either. Otherwise we'd have to have static ip addresses.
  15. They don't always smoke all the time when the seal is leaking. But most of the intermittent one's I've dealt with only smoked at idle.
  16. Yeah. I don't remember what the number is. But it says nothing about wet air filter in it till the very end when it says to replace the filter if it's saturated.
  17. I had one that was moldy and completely saturated with water this week. Drove fine and had no light on. We are doing the tsb anyway. Used vehicle from the auction so we have no history what so ever on it.
  18. I dealt with that in the past. That was the day that I decided to start building my own gauge set. I bought an oil and transmission kit from one of the tool dealers and expanded from there. I used the brass adapter for air testing the high pressure oil system and screwed it in the test port on the secondary housing. I have since bought my own adapter hose from a local hydraulic repair shop. The thread is 12 X 1.5 metric o-ring thread. Been there done that.
  19. They ain't cheap, but if the truck gets in the dirt regularly I can see it being a very worthwhile upgrade.
  20. Anyone seen one of the oe severe duty air boxes for the later 7.3's? I stumbled across it one night online. They are still avalible from Ford. I was tempted to order one for mine.
