It seems to me that 6.7's are great for setting codes like that. Fix one and 2 days later it's back and the guy ain't happy.

And my co-workers think I'm nuts for taking tools along when I took my 7.3 on vacation last month. -

Um... Don't remember. I know the glow plug light came on when I turned the key on. -
04 Super Duty No PCM Communication
forddieseldoctor replied to forddieseldoctor's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Even though I unplugged it when I first looked at it I found the ebp sensor shorted out. I even had a little wisp of smoke come out of the connector when I unplugged it. -
Removing Engines From Transits

They won't get us a powertrain jack either. This one will be okay. Only a cylinder head. Wouldn't do it this way if I had to replace the motor. -
I got an 04 f-series that was towed in cause it stalled repeatedly and another shop told them it needed a pcm. Truck won't crank sometimes and when it does it cuts out while it's cranking. Nothing that is pcm controlled comes on when the key is turned on. I unplugged the engine connector at the pcm and the fuel pump comes to life. I didn't get much time to look at it yet, but I have unplugged the fan clutch, icp, ebp, and egr valve. I performed a brief wiggle test on the harnesses I could get to easily. Has anyone seen a messed up ficm cause the pcm to shut down?

Low mileage low oil pressure

As we say at work. "It's just like it......Only different." -
We got work. Got an 03 F-350 with 360,000 miles on the chassis with a cracked injector bore. But only 60k on a reman motor. Got a 98 explorer with a blown up timing cassette that jumped time. Customer decided on a used motor. Got a 96ish F-250 with a cracked flex plate. And I looked at a 13 edge today for an oil leak that sure as hell looks like a head gasket. Leaking on the right front outer corner right above the block drain plug. From what I can tell from the book there should be the oil feed passage for the head right there.

I agree. Plus more than likely if there is a junk lifter the cam is junk as well. The one or two I've seen have been. -
It's started again for this year. I decided to do it this year. Some of those questions are tough. I got 2 months in and got one wrong on both of them.

Looked at a 99 grand marquis with a misfire today. Found the #4 spark plug electrode smashed against the rest of the plug. Grabbed the borescope and took a look. I can see the top compression ring in one spot. Then I found out that one of my co-workers just jambed a plug in it for the same concern back in May. Never bothered to look down the cylinder.

Nice find. Network concerns can be a real pain. -
No alignment machine. i found the procedure but it just does't work all the time. Frustrating trying to decide/know when a sensor is actually bad. The tool recommended above is the answer.I'm not gonna disagree with that. But it is rather nice to have the tpms info that readily avalible for all kinds of vehicles. Does that pinger do more than gm's?
-
If you have a hunter alignment machine they have procedures for each vehicle listed in there. I think the gm ones are the ones that have you release air from the tires after you enter the training mode.

I was on flat rate for the first 5 years of my career. Hated it. Constantly 30 to 35 hours a week. I managed to get into a dealer that pays hourly with flat rate bounus. Plus there's a different mentality here. I'm now producing around 60 hours a week.

We got all of those around here too. I've worked on aerostars. They ain't that bad. I owned a 95 contour. It needed a pile of work so I dumped it.

I had one of those in the last laptop I had. It was a refurbished dell that came with xp. I tossed an ssd and a copy of win 7 in it along with maxing out the ram. It would do a cold boot in 20 seconds. I haven't had the funds to do it to my Levono, but I plan on it in the near future.

Aftertreatment Theft
forddieseldoctor replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Someone hit a Ford dealer about 20 miles away. Took cats and dpf's out of a whole line of trucks. Last year there was a bunch of cat convertors getting cut off of e series and superduty gas engines in the town I work in and one of the neighboring towns. And as far as I know they didn't damage any of the adjacent pipes. -
I've ground the shit out of them in the past, but they seem to corrode up in a few months.

6.0 weird hot no start
forddieseldoctor replied to blackop555's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Did you finger it out? I've seen an intermittent biased icp do some weird stuff on hot starts. -
What's that all about? Unison ring was cracked straight through the slot. It would have just kept spreading, Plus I would have had to clean the shit out of where it slides together. They got me a new turbo. I suppose I probably should have used the term refused. But I told them that it couldn't go back together. I figure I saved them an intercooler at the minimum.
-
Turns out it was an ipr valve with a hole punched in the screen. Put a different ipr in it and it builds icp. It's got an overboost and underboost code in it along with a small leak that I think is dummy plugs. I explained all of this to our "service manager" aka parts manager. All he called the customer and told them we needed to pull the oil cooler and replace the screen, replace stand pipes and dummy plugs, replace 1 injector. Never bothered to say anything that I suspected a stuck turbo. I didn't know that and now I'm in the doghouse cause I opened up the turbo and can't put it back together. Along with the fact that no one bothered to ask what gaskets were needed.
