So what does the battery do? Is it like a bios battery in a computer?

I think we managed to kill our VDR. When we plug it into either the car data link or the power adapter all that happens is the green light on the wand comes on and the lcd number display stays dark. My laptop chimes when I plug on the vdr to the usb port, but the IDS will never recognize the unit. Does anyone know where I can find a book for it or have any knowledge of anyway to bring it back around? I really would like to have it instead of loosing a VCMII for a week while the customer drives their vehicle.

Pulled this out of an 03 6.0 this morning. Anyone got any idea what caused it? Replaced injector for a miss at hot idle. Some of my handy work. Broken exhaust mount on an 04 Taurus. Finished up replacing a pair of cracked 6.0 heads and replaced a right side up-pipe on a 6.4. Started my 10 days of Christmas vacation today. Supposed to be putting a left exhaust manifold on an 09 F-250 with a 5.4 at home tomorrow.

repeat concern p207f
forddieseldoctor replied to billy_o's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Any update on this? I got a '14 now with 29000 kms. on the clock with this fault by itself? I have an NOx 1_2 on order. It went from bad to worse. Local FSE was on vacation. I had a different one call me and he ended up having me throw parts at it (including a dpf) till it was fixed. I think the nox module and the maf sensor they had me put in was the fix. I don't think it reset right when I reset all of the tables cause it took almost 3 times as long for the nox monitor to run. The next thing they had me change was the def fluid since we didn't have a tester available. I reset it and drove it and the code never came back. I bought a def refractometer and tested the def I took out and it tested good. The egr cooler flow test passed with flying colors on mine. But Ford told me that a plugged or restricted egr cooler will cause the code that was I was having. -
2015 F-450 C & C AFT/AXLE To MIDSHIP Conversion
forddieseldoctor replied to mchan68's topic in Parts
No matter what the dte calculation will be off. We had a customer put a bigger tank under a 14 or 15 f250 and was complaining about the dte being way off. And the tank size is not changable in the computer. -
2015 F-450 C & C AFT/AXLE To MIDSHIP Conversion
forddieseldoctor replied to mchan68's topic in Parts
That is correct. I had one with a pump I had to replace that was was buried out there completely hidden by the tool box on the back of it. The midship tanks appear to be way smaller than a factory pickup tank. I haven't ever compared capacities for sure. -
Not a damn thing for the next 3 days.

What's the inverse fuel injector test? We don't get many 6.4's at work. -
Fixing Bung Holes
forddieseldoctor replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I welded one up yesterday with a used bung off the dpf I took out. Oh the joys of putting a used dpf/cat assy on. But the truck is fixed and actually runs more than 10 seconds. -
i guess we're gonna find out if the one I got is gonna fit this 01.

I got an 01 f-series with a junk oil pan. An 08 6.4 with a plugged tight dpf. The damn thing stalls after 10 seconds. Does anyone know... Are all of the later 7.3 turbo collectors the same?

Where Are The PER_DEL PIDs?
forddieseldoctor replied to Keith Browning's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
Yeah plus it's got the outlet of the air box turned back towards the turbo instead of pointing straight towards the motor. -
Where Are The PER_DEL PIDs?
forddieseldoctor replied to Keith Browning's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
Does it have an intake air heater? As far as I know none of the early 99's had one. Between that and the air box I can usually tell the early ones from the late ones. -
I got an 01 Taurus with a broken pump shaft. I've never seen one break on the later ones. Trans is out now so it's getting a converter too.

I build up a glob on the end of the stud and thrn hold a half inch nut against the head so the glob of weld is inside the nut and fill the nut with weld. I've found the bigger nuts work better on the stubborn ones.

IDS 93 Issues
forddieseldoctor replied to Keith Browning's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
We loaded 93 on 3 laptops today. Had issues with one of them. But that turned out to be a clash with his anti-virus program. When I finally got it loaded IDS walked me through and made me do a hard reset on that VCMII. -
Ouch that sucks. I had a 6.4 that the only way I could get the exhaust manifold bolt out was to make it a pile of shavings. Even the welder couldnt touch it.

13 Focus Airbag Problems
forddieseldoctor replied to forddieseldoctor's topic in Body, Chassis and Electrical
I fon't know. I did open up the back of the cluster and didn't see anything abnormal. -
I got an 04 6.0 with a cracked head and blown headgaskets that should be back in one piece tomorrow. Looked at an 08 6.4 for a loud squeal noise when accelerating. Service manager made me pull the belts cause they thought it was a belt noise. Found both manifolds falling off the side of the motor.

Aerated Oil
forddieseldoctor replied to forddieseldoctor's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Well. After chasing my tail all I know is that it's not actually making foam. What I don't understand is what is causing the icp to jump from 1200 to 2000 psi once the engine crosses the 2500 rpm mark in park. It didn't matter how fast or how slow I ran the throttle up. I did verify it with a manual gauge. Ended up bugging hotline and after a bunch of other testing and swapping every sensor off of this thing onto my personal truck they told me that it needs injectors. Whether it's actually what's causing it or not I may never know cause the truck left today... un-fixed. -
Primary Fuel Filter Change?

Primary Fuel Filter Change?

I thought that the 6.7 filters had the mesh on the inside of the filter instead of the outside? -
Aerated Oil
forddieseldoctor replied to forddieseldoctor's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I did run the oil aeration test this last time. I got about 2500 psi almost the whole time I had it pegged at wot. It did start to run like crap over about 2500 rpm and anytime I ran it back down to idle after having it at wot for more than 1 minute it stalled no matter how slowly I tried to let it back down to idle. I get complained about having the motor running too fast if I do a koer test on a 6.7. And I take them outside and do that or the other retards I work with complain about the smell in the shop. -
Aerated Oil
forddieseldoctor replied to forddieseldoctor's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I was thinking I should put a manual gauge on it and see what it read compared to the icp sensor. No I did not swap the icp sensor back in afterwards. Customer states no chip, but I did not tear enough crap out of the way to see the back corner of the pcm.
