  1. Well, got past the first week, starting the second. Same work, different place. The atmosphere is much different and the crew is somewhat older. I like it. The writers give me a job and I do it, simple as that. No place is perfect, however, I am glad for the change. Now I just need to stay away from the hourly mentality, and I should be able to make some cash.
  2. After almost 5 years, management and I have had a parting of the ways. May even get ugly but the service manager at the shop I'm going to does not seem to be concerned as he said "My reputation proceedes me" He asked questions, and I gave honest answers. I think it irked him a bit that I was being blacklisted, and as management he even said the law is supposed to prevent that from happening but hey this is the real world. I am looking foward to this as I will no longer be flatrate and workwise it is a lateral move. I will also no longer be responsible for story writing, billing, labor times, or customer contact, which means I may actually be able to make some money for a change. I start Mon. at Interstate Ford Truck in Hartford CT. It will be my first foray into a truck only dealership but what do I care, I've done nothing but 250-550 diesel work for the last 5 yrs and that is what they are hiring me for. As he said "Good Ford diesel techs are not a dime a dozen and are hard to come by" It feels like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
  3. I've always thought that the '08 got it's styling cues from the early Super Duty, and if the styling on the upcoming Super Duty stays the same as the spy photo I think the family genes are even stronger. I've never been able to name these series of trucks except everyone I've ever seen said Super Duty, and if your old enough you probably had the Matchbox tow truck version of it. I think these are vintage '61 or so. Any old timers (no offense meant) know the exact series? JIM!
  4. Oh goody! In a little more than a year I can count on another spin to win program and maybe another cheap Chinese made leather jacket, hell maybe 2 of 'em if the 6.7L is actually happening. I can't wait!!!!!!! What am I saying! I can feel my ass hurting already! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hitthefan.gif

  6. Are a fool and his money soon parted? "The clean emissions light duty oil burner will find a place in the engine compartments of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra half-ton pickups by the 2010 model year. It's expected to be rated in excess of 310-horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. In comparison, the 6.6-liter Duramax, currently used in GM's heavy duty pickup, is rated at 365-hp / 660 lb-ft. GM powertrain spokesperson Tom Reid tells PickupTruck.com that even though it shares the Duramax name with the older 6.6-liter engine - which has been engineered and produced in partnership with Isuzu Motors - the new diesel is 100% designed by GM and will be built without Isuzu's involvement. GM's global rival, Toyota, became an investor in Isuzu last year, which gave it access to the same engineers that helped develop the 6.6-liter engine. The new Duramax is expected to help General Motors keep its lead in light duty pickup fuel economy and appeal to both commercial and lifestyle truck buyers looking to save money at the pump. The cost of diesel fuel has recently had up to a $.50 cent per gallon cost advantage over gasoline in certain parts of the U.S.. Mr. Reid says, "We haven't determined what percentage of sales the new engine will be, but we know it's destined to be popular." Oldsmobile 350 diesel comes to mind, but hey ya never know. Now, what is Ford countering with? Can't be long before they have some kind of release. Oh yeah, all hail the greatest automaker of all and future time.... Toyota Motor /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/puke.gif
  7. Yep, and here it is is. Obviously if you are not doing a pump you can modify the list accordingly. This list was made for a crewcab, hence 8 bolts, supers and regulars order accordingly. 8. The funniest and I think most surprising part of the article is the stated stock values: Less than $5 for Ford and almost $100 a share for Toyota! Show me where Toyota is any kind of innovator or where they are leaders in quality, safety, or technology. Ya can't! How is it that Toyota has a value of $50 more than Honda? I call bullshit! Toyota is Wall Street's and the media's $5000 an hour whore and as long as she keeps strokin' and blowin' 'em they'll continue giving platitudes in the form of artificially inflated stock value. Bullshit!
  9. Question here, and maybe I'm thinking out loud, but how is this system going to help diag, lets say, a delaminating tank that has material getting sucked into the sock under load with the fuel sloshing in the tank while driving. You know good fuel pressure at KOEO, idle and light throttle cruise, yet drops at sustained 3/4 to WOT events. if I understand the diag process correctly, if fuel pressure is good at KOEO you do not proceed with further fuel system diag. "Insert the heavy duty black end of the clear yellow hose into the fuel tank filler pipe to drain the fuel into the fuel tank. Make sure the fuel return hose is not pinched or restricted. Do not substitute any other fuel return hose and do not change the hose length of 6.7 m (22 ft) clear yellow hose with 0.91 m (3 ft) heavy duty black hose end or the internal diameter (ID) of 6.35 mm (0.25 in). The heavy duty black end on the hose is used to reduce pinching between the fuel filler door and the vehicle body. Start the engine and let it idle. Open the valve on the Flow Tester, Diesel Fuel 310-193 or equivalent. Run the engine until fuel flows free from cloudiness, gelling (cold weather) or aeration. If the air bubbles can not be purged, check for kinks or leaks. Record the indicated fuel pressure while the valve is open and fuel is flowing back to the fuel tank. If the fuel pressure meets the specification, no concern is present at this time. If the fuel pressure is below the specification, carry out the Fuel Conditioning Module Pressure test in this section. If the fuel pressure is above the specification, check the fuel return lines for a restriction. If no restriction is present, install a new fuel pressure regulator valve." I have plenty of these as I am sure has everyone else, or at least those that actually performed fuel pressure tests. I don't know, whatever /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/scratchhead.gif
  10. Ya think the guys at Ford and possibly Navistar have been payin' this site some visits? Ha! To think we may have been out witting the system! Jokes on us boys. Say goodbye to the 2.5 hr fuel pressure test on Econolines. Wow my ass hurts!
  11. Ya mean like this: Here we go with the rocket science thing again. How many years has the flex pipe been in exsistience? It also appears that the EDOC flex is cracking as well. Thanks for the input.
  12. Oh boy! I can't wait! Hey, weren't we told that we couldn't accurately test fuel pressure w/o roadtesting? You do know this is the result of the bean counters not believing that we actually do roadtests and actually test fuel pressure, right? All we do is abuse the system and claim the time. DOH!
  13. Found it! Exhaust leak at the turbo inlet or there abouts, defineately loudest in that area. The noise is being pushed foward under the turbos so it sounds like it is up front and possibly an intake leak. Anyways, cab will be coming off so I can perform a better inspection and find whatever blew out. This truck also had the horseshoe blow out about 2K ago due to broken VC bolts, fun is. Granted it is piddly shit but WTF! How do you answer this question? "How come my truck keeps breaking down?"
  14. Bruce, The hiss can be heard while driving or while idling in the bay, I am searching it out with the trusty stethescope but can't pinpoint it because there is so much other noise, both from the engine and shop noise. The smoke was a whiteish/blueish color, like oil hitting an exhaust manifold but everything is clean with no obvious leaks.
  15. I've got one I can't pinpoint the noise on. F450, 12K, ZF6. It has a pretty constant hiss which at times will get louder then go softer again with no apparent rhyme or reason. Engine sometimes also seems loud and rattly. Performance is diminished somewhat but the turbos are capable of making boost just not very quickly. When I hear the hiss it does not appear to be coming from any of the sealing areas. Nothing in OASIS, anybody hear or experience this? BTW, on my roadtest I noticed a large amount of smoke (smoke, not steam) coming from under the hood as I was stopped at a light, pulled over and checked, NOTHING!
  16. Same truck that had the siezed valve I posted pics of just came back. EGR Pics 3K miles AND 1.5 months later same DTCs P0297,P0404,P042F, and a stuck valve. I was able to get this one out of the intake but just barely, cracked the valve on the way out. No coolant loss, valve and intake not wet, VEGR cooler looks dry with boroscope, EBP sensor dry and not melted. No steam or white smoke from exhaust, in fact customer has said that when he sees smoke it is black and not a huge amount, almost as if the valve sticks open, however the P042F is a closed DTC. Any ideas and has anyone had anything similar?
  17. Read this morning about PTS (Leaseway Trans) filing chapter 7 ending all operations, so I checked it out on the web. Interesting how the union members (Teamsters) just fucked themselves outta' a job. Brilliant! America's second-largest hauler of new vehicles and operated under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company anticipated negotiating a long-term contract during that time, but the Teamsters instead went on strike Monday. -- The Associated Press" More on the PTS bankruptcy filing. 18. BTW Bruce, I was not calling you a fucktard. I understand the global economy. That being said, Honda, Toyota, and Nissan are not american companies, neither is VW, KIA, Hyundai, and so on. Net profits or not, the money to keep these companies thriving has been supplied by americans who choose to buy foriegn, and for decades I have said, shame on them, that included my father when he purchased a new Peugeot 505 turbodiesel in the '80s. His following purchases have all been Fords, and all have been virtually problem free. Many people have used the quality argument but outside of our beloved 6 Liter, that has never flown with me, of the 10 Fords I've owned there has been but 2 warranty claims and they have been minor. My moto has been, keep the money home, the best you can, if you can. It really seems to be an academic argument in these times, however I have not, nor will I purchase any new vehicle from a foriegn manufacturer, and over the years the only non american vehicle I've ever owned was a '73 Bettle BAJA Bug. BTW, I ride Indian not Harley-Davidson.
  19. While I've lifted nowhere near Jeff's 55 trucks, I've done approx 20 and I've never had to open the brake system. Ever. Including my most recent '08 E350.
  20. I gave my take here... Cat and Navistar Indian pickups, Indian tractors, etc, etc... WTF! Buy American from American companies! Honda is american made goes the argument, however the money ends up in Japan you fucktard.
  21. Ok I'll bite. Cat is fed up with changing American emissions standards for on road diesel engines, so they want out, and will concentrate on stationary power source and construction equiptment engines but.... What are they gonna' do when congress goes after those diesel power sources? You know they will, it's only a matter of time. What I don't get about the article is the Cat branded truck, does the market really call for another class 6-8 truck, and really why would you buy a Caterpiller truck with a Navistar built engine. Strange. You could always tell who was serious about their rig when they'd lift the hood and a big yellow monster sat between the frame rails. Ever since I was a tyke, perhaps my all time favorite cliche was "If it's not a Cat, it's a dog"
  22. Let me guess, they said there were no grounds to rebuild the entire fuel system and the tech was never given authorization to replace said components. READ THE HOTLINE LOG YOU FUCKING MORON!!!
  23. Remember the old poster of the Town Car and SBDS/NGS that said "It's not rocket science but it's close" Well apparently making stand pipes etc IS rocket science.
