I'm not exactly thrilled about this either. We replace a ton of egr coolers, and a decent amount of headgaskets. Oh well...

I agree with the patientce part. Not every customer or service managed understand this. A good blacklight is also very important. Last summer at my last job, I was trying to find a A/C leak with the shop's blacklight that hooks up to the battery terminals and was not finding the source of the leak. A fellow coworker walked up and handed me his blacklight that was the size of a Mag-Light. The leak was very evident with his light. I bought one just like it the next day. I'll try to remember to reply with the brand and model number when I go to work tomorrow. It is really nice. It has a rechargable battery. I really used to like that "Old-School" Rotunda black light that plugged into the wall and got very hot. That thing worked great.

I agree. If this turns into a recall it will be scary to see what it pays. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/fouet3.gif

I think right now, coil on plugs cause the most RFI. I have seen 7.3l injectors cause RFI, but not any 6.0ls yet. I could definately see the CKP, CMP dtcs happening from this as OHNO6O mentioned. Well Keith, what is the answer to the question?

That is really cool. If my kids really wanted to be mechanics, what could I really do? I have never been good at talking people out of doing this. Lets get back to the topic. New Racks.... Am I the only one here that goes into a trance like state when there is a "Girls Gone Wild" commercial on the TV?

I bet there could be some serious RF issues if the vehicle was an ambulance. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/2cents.gif

+1 on not removing the body for a 7.3L.

Is it a nice rack? Is the rack larger than average? What does the rack feel like? Was this an early Mother's Day present? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif

Joey's right. It is probably plugged egr ports. But first I would run a koer self test while checking for vaccum at the egr valve. That should be about 5-15hg for about 5 seconds at the end of the koer self test. If it is, put vaccum on the egr valve with the engine running. It should start to idle really rough and almost stall. If it dosen't then the egr ports are plugged. The dpfe sensors are also pretty common on these.

Ha-ha. On the coldest day of the year, the blower motor went out in my wife's car. it didn't stop working, it just made this TERRIBLE loud screeching noise. Then all of a sudden the noise stops. "Well it stopped making the noise. I guess I can drive the kids to my sister's house tonight. " (45 minutes away)Im like, "Uh... do you think something might be wrong with your car? " But all she understands is that the noise is not there. Like it miraculously fixed itself. I mean it was the coldest day of the year, but you guys up in Canada would probably still be driving around with your windows cracked open to get some fresh air. This is the typical setting for disaster. Either a blower motor starting on fire or being far from home with no heat, but the warning signs were there. People always think, "Thats just a light on my dash. The car still runs. It will be OK. Thats just antifreeze dripping on the ground, but the car still runs OK. " Then disaster strikes anfd its like there were no warning signs at all.

There is no programming with a IDM. Just make sure you clear the DTCs in the PCM.

Jim, Thanks for the info. I checked out FRT a long time ago, but it seemed like a lot of un-constructive bitching. Thats why I stayed away from that site. I had no idea that there was a class action lawsuit agianst Ford. That itself sounds pretty un-constructive.

Canadian vehicles don't get owner's manuals?

Could you tell me more about this?

I don't mean to seem negative, but I'm sure there will be some big fight about how it's not there fault the thing blew up. Like its Ford's fault or something. It just seems like that is how it works. ECT 274f /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/flamethrower.gif

frozen wheels on hubs
Mekanik replied to Brad Clayton's topic in Driveline: Transmissions, Clutches and Axles
I've got a giant mallot that works about 95% of the time. It barely fits in my toolbox. You have to swing it like you mean it though. I like the idea of loosening the lugs and going off-roading. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rockon.gif I haven't had to use it yet, but we have some portable hydrailic ram that I see others using in the shop. I'll use that next time I get one that won't come off with my mallot. -
2000 Focus 2.0L Zetec Auto weird symptoms
Mekanik replied to mchan68's topic in Body, Chassis and Electrical
I think thats where the problem is. From what I hear, the Focus is notorious for electrical problems caused by a bad ground. -
All those people do is bitch and moan on that message board. I think the new tsb pretty much covers all the bases and pays pretty fair.

I hear ya. I didn't want to tie up my stall, the customer needs thier work truck back, and I'm confident that he won't have any problems with the 2 piece set-up with the bracket.

Explorer AWD
Mekanik replied to Keith Browning's topic in Driveline: Transmissions, Clutches and Axles
Yeah you don't really want to mess with these A4WD systems. I had one of these years ago that had 2 tires replaces with a different size. The complaint was that the front diff would start on fire. The funny thing is that another shop replaced the front diff, only for the new one to start on fire too. The coupler was trying to keep both driveshafts turning at the same speed. Keith, I really think you would destroy the coupler in the transfer case if you did this. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/2cents.gif -
Good info. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif

And the injector o rings end up in that little black bowl on the side of the water seperator.

Well I ended up putting the 2 piece fitting on the pump. The truck was torn apart in my stall, the parts dept. wants to get rid of theese 2 piece kits and they tell me that nobody has the new design yet. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif

Explorer AWD

Keith, I think you would destroy the viscous coupling. It's a older explorer with a 5.0L?
