  1. Allen, I remember Doc was looking for a diesel or cetane hydrometer a while back. Try doing a search of these forums and you might find the topic. I remember someone coming up with some tool numbers and Rotunda used to offer one years ago. I don't think that one exists that tells you if there is gas in the fuel but it might at least indicate something is very wrong.
  2. Jim, I know a lot of guys that sold thier bikes for a ring or to scrape up a down payment on a house. All of them now ride a much nicer bike than the ones they sold. Doc, this site isnt that slow. if you take away all of the BS posts and aftermarket crap on all of the other web sites they would all be no different. FACTORY WORKERS? Is there anybody here that builds Super Dutys?
  3. Here's a good question. Let's say someone replaces the batteries or is working on the truck with the batts diconnected. Is the KAM completely wiped out? If the unsuspecting guy working on the truck has no clue about this calibration and the VGT relearn procedure is the truck likely to have drivability problems like you mentioned? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  4. Even if the connectors never get used I have used many single pins from my junk box. the colors might not match but hey
  5. Its looking like the learning curve on this engine keeps getting more bends in it as we get closer. I think its a bad omen be talking about removing an engine thats not even in production yet and those numbers are pretty big for warranty so whats the REAL time going to be???
  6. Quote: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recently opened a preliminary investigation of 1999 - 2001 model year E/F-Series and Excursion vehicles regarding the performance of camshaft position sensors. I think that 99-01 is a little too narrow of an investigation don't you? Nothing like a GOOD recall to bring in business! I wonder how this will end up
  7. No limit here as long as we act like adults
  8. That's something that would have proven worth the cost of production. Hey Bruce? Is the VT 365 having the same driveability problems the 6-Oh is? I'll bet International is not flashing every truck over and over.
  9. We just got that tester. it looks just like a battery charger. Duh! it is but i mean it's not a hand held tester. It is a battery charger with more buttons.
  10. I gotta tell you guys I'm seeing a lot of 4x4 problems caused by those inner seals this year. Not new models but ones with some miles. I like using the smoke machine but i found that sometimes you need to have sombody move the wheels full left and right to find a leak while you watch.
  11. I saw one 7.3 that had 225+ beat to hell but still running
  12. Yeah, the EBP is now inferred by the MAF sensor which brings me to this little note from the HotLine today. If there are any modifications like an air intake or a monster exhaust this recall will cause major problems. Makes sense but I wonder why they decided to do this. I can see the problems coming from this are going to make matters worse.
  13. What JiM said... I find that taking that air deflector off of the fan shroud gives you more room to work and you can also find that little tin lookin lever he mentioned. Oh I also get a little barbaric with the belt because for some reason I cant wok my ratchet in the sensioner so I use a long prybar against the head and push the belt out from just under the alternator until the tensioner is fully extended.
  14. So do believe there are additional calibration updates to come? And since you seem to know things do you know why Ford doesent publish calibration information any more? You know, those charts that used to be on the PST website listing the cals with part numbers, dates and what they address???
  15. ...a call. I guess I need to get on somebody here at my dealership about this. Thank you.
  16. Are you sure about that? I am running H3 as well as WDS software which is at A6. This is MD Truck not WDS. I hope I am not running seriously outdated software! I couldn't be missing three updates?!?!?!?!
  17. Does anybody know what the most current version of MD Truck is? I am using disk H3 with the IC4 COM adapter. I was told that the new disk will run on any PC but this disk won't load because it's not on a WDS machine.
  18. I thinks common sense should be used when dealing with this. I am not stupid and I know when a customer has screwed up his truck. I don't think that an EGR valve clogs because of a tuner. A torn oil seal on a CMP sensor was not caused by an aftermarket exhaust and AIRAID intake did not cast a porous block or gouge the sealing surface of the bed plate. My problem is, I don't know which I prefer. The idiots that come in with the tuner still mounted to the dash and everything plugged in under the hood or the ones that actually remove the stuff and try every trick in the book to hide their toys... erasing any data that could have been a help in diagnosing the concern. For diagnostic reasons, sometimes I would prefer they just bring it in the way it is and let me worry about the warranty.
  19. Any of you guys catch this? I wonder why only the 2005 models are supposedly affected. I hear complaints that there are 2004s doing this. I am guessing that this is the same as the complaint of the turbo flutter and lack of power while towing up hill or steady throttle. Quote: TSB 06-3-11 BUCK/JERK STEADY THROTTLE OR SLIGHT TIP IN - 6.0L Publication Date: February 3, 2006 FORD: 2005 F-Super Duty ISSUE: Some 2005 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.0L engine may exhibit a buck/jerk condition in Low (L), first (1st), second (2nd), and third (3rd) gear in manual transmission vehicles, or in manual 1st, manual 2nd, or in tow-haul mode in first (1st) or second (2nd) on automatic transmission vehicles. This concern occurs anywhere from 1800-2500 RPM at steady throttle or slight tip in. Concern will be more evident under a load, or while pulling a trailer. This concern is more noticeable in manual transmission equipped vehicles.
  20. Just curious if there are a lot of non recall related failures out there on the 5R110W trans. I just opened up my second non recall repair, another blown out low one way clutch. Anybody else?
  21. The LCF is wired for rear throttle and PTO controls and the pigtail I believe is in the rear framerail. Great for garbage trucks rolloffs flatbeds and tow trucks. I think he is talking about the PCM strategy of raising the idle on cold starts after 90 seconds. The 6.0 and the 7.3 did that too
  22. Hey soap box or not you hit the nail right on the head! If your FordStar is turned on through the lunch hours they run a lot of their TV commercials. There's one with Mr. Bill himself stating that the design of their cars has been way too conservative and changes were being made to allow for more free thinking concerning styling. With that said then why not offer a Tonka body package? I though that was cool!!! With designs like the 300 and the Charger who would want to look at a 500? I saw a drawing of a concept based on the 1970 Challenger but all modern. It would NOT be hard for Chrysler to come out with it by putting it on a charger or 300 platform. It would be a head turner for sure!
  23. This reminds me that a few years ago there was a problem with the gas engine pick-up screens being too fine and they were plugging up causing low power concerns. You problem sounds just like what happens when diesel fuel gells up and clogs the filter and pick up in the tank. All we can do is push it in the shop and let it warm up overnight. So far, not one victim of fuel gelling yet this year! Could all of these 1st time diesel owners fianlly learned their lesson? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rofl.gif
