  1. no need for anti gel 23 additive here in AZ I just run the 22 and call it good. I do remember the old black bottle filling fuel bowls up on the OBS. Also remember some of the old time guys using ATF instead....
  2. Just when I thought I was getting ahead one of our guys decided to ram the dock in revearse.... He hit so hard it destroyed the liftgate and ripped the boddy from its mounts shoving it into the cab! Guess I get more truck building projects in the shop! No shortage of work around here thats for sure
  3. What happens when your replace the engine? More so a complete engine assembly or long block assembly, Engine hours should be reset along with it dont you think? I have only reset them a couple times, all of which had replacement engines installed. Some customer pay and some warranty. Its been a year or two since I last reset one so its possible ford decided to take that function away from our IDS functions
  4. Yes you can. I have done it a few times on 6.4s and a 6.2 gaser I beleive. If I remember correctly it was under Powertrain/Service Functions
  5. II agree 100% here and fear the trasit will be the next dodge sprinter. We had 3-4 sprinters and we have since auctioned them off or they are sitting on my dead line. Hell I cant even get a decent price for them at auction either. The cost of parts/repairs are rediculous and they are big piles of crap on top of that. The payload specs suck, they are slow as a slug and uncomfortable to drive any lengh of time. Maybe they are fine for a fedex driver cruising around town all day but give it a real job and it will shit the bed in 6 months.
  6. This is normal for AZ. currently we are getting a taste of the humidity with the monsoon season. Its been about 105 degrees and 30-40% humidity. It makes it pretty misierable out there to say the least. I can handle the heat no problem but this lousy humidity can suck my left nut. It wouldnt be so bad if we would get daily rain but typically the storms just blow around the city and bring the huge dust storms rather then actual rain.
  7. also the snap is built in USA(printed right on the sticker) and the batteries are Japan.
  8. I have had them all and in my experience the snapon had been the winner. I was skeptical at first the with 3/8s 14.4 snapon impact and its price tag. My dealer let me test drive it for a week and I was sold the first day. The thing rips and I can do most any job with that thing. I think I have had it for almost 2 years now and have hammered the poor thing and its just as powerful as the day I bought it. The battery's last forever compared to other impacts I have had. The success of the 3/8s impact led me to buy a 1/2 and both 14.4 and 18v drills. The 14.4 drill I beat the shit out of each and every day. I drill crap that needs a corded drill for but am too lazy to break it out. I also ended up with a 1/4" for small jobs. I have a huge depend for cordless with my job as I may be too far out in the yard for air hoses alot of times. I know its a hard pill to swallow on the price but IMO its worth every penny. Every other cordless impact brand I have had suck ass and never hold up to the abuse.
  9. I was amazed at how many had little to no miles on it. Didnt sound like he was a very good sales guy on moving his product. As cool as they look to be "new" after sitting in storage for so long I bet they are a basket case once you fire them up for the first time.
  10. Perfectly normal. Our fleet is mostly 550s with one or two pickups thrown in. the pickups have alot more power and very little hesitation off the line compared to a cab and chassis truck.
  11. my dad has a early 2011 and its been great. Its had some some goofy things here and there but nothing to be worried about. He is sitting around 75k miles now and tows a 35' 5th wheel trailer often. I would be looking at a 6.7 long before even concidering a 6.4

    6.4L Debacle

Im glad I was not the only one with a example like that!! I invited the foreman to watch me and check the dipstick to prove I wasn't stealing 2 qts of oil
  13. yep I have had lots of these in the past. Typically on the ambos with their idle time. The heat just bakes that gasket to death
  14. This is popular or was at least a few years ago here in AZ. I had to work on this type of system once and came really close a second time(every tech in the shop fought hard to change their minds) I can only imagine the bean counter sitting behind a desk all day who would dream up such a thing. Its bad enough as a tech you are flat rate on your own but its even worse when your pay check gets averaged out among your team. You will find the guys that are on board with such a system are the low producing techs in the shop for obvious reasons. They are going to benefit from having other better techs on their team to make up for their loss of hours. I really hated having my hours cut to a lower then actual average every week. Alot of times the thought behind this kind of structure is it makes it fair for everyone however the problem is they are never willing to build fair teams. Even if you had a 100% equal set of advisers and techs it creates drama among the shop as everyone thinks they have a shitty team and vice versa.
  15. exactly...or at least that is what is intended from the factory. Welcome to the land of no rust! I dont know how you guys deal with that crap. I could never wrench on rusty vehicles day in and day out. Now working on a hot engine in the summer months is not exactly fun but burning the shit out of myself is 10 times better then dealing with rusty ass vehicles
  16. I understand the police safety aspect fully, I have family that are police officers...Too dark of tint is also very hard to see out when dark so can become a problem for the driver too. There has to be balance. I am not saying tint your windshield or front windows so dark no one can see in or out. I can tell you driving here in az with zero darkening tint on your front windows miserable, Thank god we are not as anal as CA and are allowed to have 35% on our front windows. That alone makes a huge difference in comfort during the summer months. I would prefer to go a little darker myself but I stick to the legal limits. I do always tint my rear windows to about 25% which has no regulations.
  17. I hate the 35% law here in AZ. The darker the tint the better here(obviously within reason) Its far too hot not to have tint on your windows here
  18. I am in the process of moving shops and wont have a lift for a while so Ill be kinda stuck without the ability to lift the cab.
  19. I would put money you are on the right track keith. I have had this happen to me before on our trucks. Pissed off employee grabs the closest bottle of whatever fluid he can get his hands and dumps it in where he knows it will do the most damage. Typically the transmission in our experience.
  20. So I have a customer pay job I may be getting ahold of that i would like to try this new found glory on. How does this procedure compare to the standard slts on labor hours?
  21. Or here locally the big thing is car jacking. They will attempt it in broad day light rush hour traffic.
  22. Good example of always be aware of your situation. You never know what kind of nut job your going to get. I really dislike selling stuff anymore on some of these sites like craigslist. I never meet at my home but rather a public place during daytime hours. I always make sure they leave first and I take the long way home making sure I was not followed. I typically open carry my pistol as well (Arizona luxury). It may be overkill but better safe then sorry.
  23. for a whopping 14hrs too!! Ahhhh but look at it this way, Ford figured it out for you! But, I agree, 14 hours? Bend over bitches!
