  1. ah ha I was wondering when this would raise its ugly head. I have seen this coming for a long time, wonder when/if it will hit the base warranty sooner then later
  2. I just got the reverify notice as well, just my luck my current employeer does not have a discount setup
  3. This kinda of thing really bugs me. I understand them not wanting to support modifications to a vehicle but some of this stuff is down right retarded. I can understand trying to upfit something like navigation to a vehicle that was not built with it. However things like cruise control, wheels/tires, superduty mirrors, backup cameras etc should be supported. On my personal truck(2011 Raptor) I wanted to add the rear view camera. It had the full navigation headunit and even the plug for the camera was there under the bed. The sales guy that ordered simply did not check box for it as it was part of the trailer brake controller option(this is a whole other gripe with ford today...what ever happend to actaully picking your options vs packages???) I submitted a hotline asking if I can add the rear camera to the vehicle, hell the wiring was already there and the headunit is correct so the only thing missing was the camera itself. I got the typical answer of no that is not possible yet they could not tell me why the connector was in the vehicle. I called BS on that answer and purchased all the camera parts. I installed them in my tailgate then searched ebay for the same year vehicle that had a factory installed camera so I could nab the VIN#. Printed AS-built data out for both vehicles and compared. Made the changes in the programming on my truck and had a working camera. Pretty simple proccess and could have been made even simplier if ford would include that option under programmable parameters and a dealer install package. But hey what do I know? I just fix the things!
  4. Slammed here.....Building service trucks on top of trying to keep everything else on the road....then there is customer jobs...... Anyone need a job in sunny AZ?
  5. Thanks for the letter brad. I fall under the phx area temps and I can tell you average is at least 95* during those months. That could explain the extra consumtion of my drum after its been in the heat for a few months.
  6. Bruce I remember our local training center preaching about DEF and heat related quality durning my 6.7 class a couple years back. More recently I heard this again from a ford fleet rep. Not saying its correct as we all know ford sometimes can be the biggest misinformation spreading source but this is something they have been teaching. With that said I have seen this happening on our trucks. I buy the motorcraft DEF by the 55gal drum and once Its been in the shop all summer the last 20gals or so goes much quicker. I have guys coming in between oil changes with the low DEF warning on the dash. Typically it has been when I have filled the DEF from a drum thats been in the shop heat longer rather then a fresh drum. Granted I have not had too much time to really test this theory but the heat does seem to affect the life span somehow. The trucks I notice it on are all pretty consistant with the type of work they do so I dont think its related to a odd pattern of idle time or heavy usage.
  7. I would like to meet that dick head in a dark alley somewhere.....
  8. Cummins equipped transit or emergency vehicles will not derate or shut down for any reason. They'll just go til they die. Pardon the pun. Buses won't derate in case it decides to happen on a railway crossing. I wonder why we don't implement a strategy like that for emergency and/or transit vehicles? Exactly my thoughts! These failsafes should be reduced or removed on something like a ambo. Let the thing get to where it going then shit the bed, whats one more 20k insurance charge on that ambo ride?
  9. Keep in mine the DEF deteriorates overtime depending on how its stored. I have found on our trucks I see a higher usage of DEF the longer my drum sits in my shop with the summer heat.
  10. I was thinking the same thing... On top of that if you need to know how the IDS works to even use it to steal the truck. That is impressive damage to that truck and I would be curious to see what it hit. The forces in the cab had to be huge in a accident like that
  11. Somehow I always get stuck with those kinda of guys as well. In my last class I ended up with two guys from the same shop. Aparently one was a foreman and the other a "the lead tech". Both had more interest in bullshitting with each other then focusing on the class. Fiquring out rather quickly they had no desire to learn I finished the daily stuff on my own and refused to share any findings with them. Come test day I banged out the written and jumped on a vehicle. Knocked that out and went home at noon. Those two retards where still trying to finish the written test.
  12. My dads old 2004 which is now owned by a good friend is still ticking at 215k. I have done all the service on it since day one and besides a EGR failure(stuck wide open and not coked up) and a ficm(caused by low batterys for 3 months) its been flawless. Amazing what a little TLC does!
  13. yesterday was a holiday? I was working as any normal day
  14. I have tried to keep mine running with the intergrated system but have yet to fiqure it out. I dont use it often enough in the raptor to have spent much time researching if its possible
  15. interesting....so they want you to replace the vacuum harness for the solenoid yet how do you explain the concern being resolved with the replacement of the solenoid? I have yet to see or hear of a repeat repair once you replace the solenoid. is the vacuum harness that much cheaper?
  16. I didnt get to use the one we had very often(was dead half the time) but when I did it was a lifesaver. I loved that thing!
  17. Thats the ticket. I learned this way back in the 7.3 days
  18. NOT ME. I get the apprentice to disconnect it and then clean up the mess they make. Im not that lucky to have a helper or even a lift for that matter. Doing it on the ground tends to make more of a mess
  19. agree 100%. I am 32, and I truely beleive my work ethic, manners, professionalism and how I conduct myself is directly related to how I was raised as a child. There are several things I remember being a big deal when growing up like how to shake someones hand....Such a simple gesture but says a shit load about who you are. And I agree with stinky dudes. We have a 22-23yo here that can be pretty ripe in the am.
  20. I have seen it a couple times and always just as hilarious as the first.... 6.4 lower hose is always a classic as well. I still manage to get it on myself somehow and I am prepared for it. Just one of those things no matter what you do your going to get a coolant bath
  21. good info...I was unaware this was on the horizon
  22. yep....Never expect them to acknowledge they are one of the biggest contributors to why skilled guys wont put up with being screwed day in day out. In the two years I have been away from flat rate I look at the times they are expecting to pay you guys for some of these major repairs(6.7 head tsb comes to mind) and it blows my mind. I do not regret getting into this buisness one bit as it has led me to where I am today however I strongly suggest a different path to those that come to me asking about getting started......I think this may be a trend everywhere from storys of lack of techs.
  23. I appoligize if you took offense to my comment, it was not meant to be personal in any way rather a sarcastic comment of my own opinion
